    1. Yup. I clicked a link and wasted too many minutes watching Twitchy Perogie pontificate surrounded by vapid diverse seals. Not my country.

    2. Can’t buy me votes! Can’t buy me votes!

Say you don’t need no working man cheques and I’ll be satisfied
Tell me that you want the kind of things that money just can’t buy
I don’t care too much for money
      Money can’t buy me votes

  1. ((One person with knowledge of the plans said that the measure will not be in the fiscal update on Monday, but the government hopes to take another look in the new year, if it can find another party to support it.))

Hey, Economics 101…if you are going to bribe a voter, you deliver your gifts closer to the election.

  2. Incompetent dumbsticks need to be kept away from the treasury, how dumb are our Members of Parliament to allow this to continue?

$250 bucks is not life changing for anyone, but now it’s just another demonstration of incompetence.

    1. “$250 bucks is not life changing for anyone.” Maybe not for you, but it is for me. I earned only $149,000.00 in 2023.

      1. To FB

I’m “only” on a government pension. $250 is not nothing to me but it’s not my money. It’s my children’s and their children’s. Unbelievable. In the end it’s same old …. same old. Repeat … rinse ….. repeat..

  3. “One official, who was not cleared to speak publicly, said the government is trying to stay within certain spending boundaries.”

i.e. no more than 10 times the annual GDP per quarter.

  4. Yet another Liberal/NDP broken promise/lie. Assume that any coalition members are full of it and you will know the truth. And they wouldn’t know about balance of any kind because they are totally unbalanced personally.

  5. At least part of this article is complete rubbish. There’s not the slightest indication that Carney is coming on board as a new Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister. No one willingly gets on board a trainwreck or a sinking ship. The LPC are facing annihilation on or before next October. Whoever does come on board is the leader will inherit all of Justatwit’s baggage.

“The Globe and Mail has reported…” Just more of the legacy media drinking their own bathwater.

    1. There’s been a fair amount of “talk” of Carney joining the #Libranos, but as you’re saying clearly enough, who would join this train wreck (and why)? Perhaps it’s just to test the waters? If the P.P. Conservatives win this election as expected, it’ll be a minimum of 2 terms before the #Libranos have a hope in returning to gov’t. Who would want to sit in opposition for +8 years for a lousy pension? Well I could name 1 guy but…

So I have no answer for this, and can’t imagine anyone being able to bring millions of Canadians back into supporting this crew prior to next Oct.

      1. Carney is not stupid. He’s been Governor of the Bank of Canada and Governor of the Bank of England. He’s highly respected in international financial circles because of this. From all of this he’s weathy and financially secure.

On the debit side, he’s a poor communicator. He’s not particularly good in dealing with things like media scrums. He has no remaining visibility with the Canadian public, and as Justatwit’s successor he would inherit ALL of that negative baggage. He has no practical experience at the fisticuffs of practical politics.

Finally he’s 59 years old. That’s hardly the time in life to be wanting to start a new career resurrecting a demolished LPC.

Marc, you are right to be skeptical about this. A lot of Liberals may WANT Carney to come in and save them from this trainwreck, but there’s nothing in it for him.

  6. I think it’s strange to read in The National Post that they’re citing The Globe and Mail as having said… but I suppose they’re all at the gov’t teat for now so why not.

Speaking of cutting back on things, an announcement via an industry magazine I regularly read said, the gov’t “completion grants” will be coming to an end in the first quarter of 2025. This is a taxable $1000 benefit which people in the Red Seal trades get for completing to journeyman status… I doubt it’s used for anything more than outfitting new graduates with more tools etc, generally, new graduates can always raise their income by $1k by completing some under the table / non taxed work that the gov’t will never really know of instead.
I advocate for both ideas, and adding 10% more to all invoices for people who find themselves working for employees of gov’t. A little here, a little there, soon enough you’ll feel good about working for gov’t employees again…

  7. Hag Freeland is an idiot.
The LPOC was overtaken by sub-moronic neo-Marxists when they elected the Phag.
That vile c**t, Katie Telford, Gerald the Intellectual Buttfck and the rest are some of the stupidest people to ever trod the planet – and here they are affecting the free market with their nonsense.
    We need a cull.

  8. Is this to avoid a deficit in the $60 billion range? or is it closer to $100 billion?

And the “debt to GDP” level is a stupid measure since it includes all of the government deficit spending.

    1. Supposed to be $40 billion. Look for $60+ billion. Otherwise they wouldn’t cancel the candy giveaway. BTW out of control deficits are the main cause of inflation.

  9. I retired in 2022. Travelled a bit in 2023, wasted a lot of time doing not too much. Towards end of November, thought maybe I should do something. Got a part time casual job in December…worked a total of 24 hours in 2023. Thought it would be ironic to get a bonus cheque for working that little bit in 2023!

  10. How retarded are those bimbos, Freeland and Zustin? Once you announce a check, you don’t suck it back. Before frigging Christmas! I guarantee you some people have already spent the money. They could just have STFU, and not disturb this pile. You know there are still about 20% of people who would vote for them?

  11. Dec. 16 is the fall fiscal update (4:00 pm EST). Freeland must have been given the numbers early to cancel a money giveaway before an election and the deficit will likely exceed $40 B by a wide margin. Otherwise the Liberals would be spreading their sprinkles across the country.
