Y2Kyoto: Blunder Down Under

Via Doomberg;

If there is a place on Earth where wind and solar technologies should work, it is Australia. The country’s vast coastline and diverse geography bestow nearly ideal conditions for wind energy turbines, and the sun shines brightly and consistently. According to a detailed country-by-country analysis by the World Bank Group, Australia ranks near the top in global solar potential, and some of its largest commercial solar farms can achieve capacity factors in excess of 40%—roughly four times Germany’s average annual performance. By further comparison, similar facilities in the US average about 25%. […]

Alas, as sure as night follows day, wherever renewable sources of electricity penetrate a grid to any meaningful extent, skyrocketing prices and electricity shortages are sure to follow. No country — not even Australia — holds veto power over the laws of physics.

Sky News documentary (1hr): The shocking truth of the renewable energy push

  1. Let me explain how PG&E has gotten away with charging us 0.61/kWhr.

It’s simple. Economically PUNISH the consumer of electricity. PUNISH electric use. Then demand that EVERYTHING be electric. Mandate Heat Pumps, eliminate gas cooktops, and eliminate gas water heating. You see, PG&E is no longer in the business of SUPPLYING energy … they are in the business of decommissioning power plants, and using high costs to dissuade use. PG&E is an anti-Energy Corp.

How do they get away with this? Where’s the PUC to look after beleaguered consumers of Public Utilities? They’re the ones driving this … in the name of Climate Change or something. The PUC isn’t protecting the Consumer … they’re PUNISHING us. My parents generation and the generations before them BUILT this incredible First World standard of living … and sadly … my generation and those coming up from behind are DESTROYING it all.

  2. Climate Change will be remembered as the biggest scam in the history of the world. Ponzi and Madoff could not have developed a better way to fleece the masses

  3. Again, the only way that this technology became favored is because of government ideological sponsorship. Without that, it would have gone the way of the dodo bird, only being used by those that shared the climate ideals of the age, and with sufficient private resources to fund the experiment for themselves.

Governments suck at picking winners and losers and corporate welfare must be abolished for that reason.

  4. If you’re in a remote village in Africa, hundreds of miles from the nearest power generating Station, then perhaps solar makes sense for you. For the rest of the planet it certainly doesn’t. Period. End of story.

  5. From a review of the documentary:
//A spokesperson for the Australian Energy Market Operator said in the last decade, the primary drivers of rising electricity costs for consumers were “market volatility and supply disruptions”.
“Key factors include transmission and generation outages, especially those affecting large coal-fired power stations.
These outages cause price spikes, which in turn flow through to consumer bills over time.
“The Ukraine war has also played a role, triggering broader price increases that have taken years to fully reflect in consumer electricity costs.”

But what about renewables? Have they increased costs?
The statement added: “The increasing share of renewable energy in the generation mix has put downward pressure on electricity prices and emissions, but it’s important to consider that the higher costs in recent years have largely been driven by volatility in the wholesale market.” //

    1. There are no “renewables” at least not as the propagandists envision them. Nothing that generates electricity can be made without manufacturing, using coal, oil and gas, nothing.

  6. Can’t cure stupid.
    Future cartoon.
“Mommy, what did people use for light, before candles?”
“Well dear, they once had this thing called electricity, which allowed smoke free bright white light”.

As the morons of government steal ever increasing amounts of money through electricity rates and levies, the cost to generate your own will be less than power supplied by the utility.
A small diesel genset and burning fuel 24/7 will be cheaper and infinitely more reliable than the government controlled utilities.
So much for “The Public Good”
