Blog Notes

I’ve had a couple of reports that the site isn’t accessible to some people, (or accessible by cellphone data but not wifi). I have no idea what’s going on, nothing has been changed in the firewall rules but if you’re experiencing the same (and can read this through some other means), drop the details in the comments.

  1. On occasion, I was unable to access through a VPN. Certain IPs may be flagged, and I get a big screaming screen with something along the lines of “Access Prohibited”. I just change the server and the problem is solved. Not sure whether this is part of the problem, but these are my two bits…

  2. Just got here now (all morning at the dentist). Tried both PC and phone. Shaw Cable works as does Telus/Bell/Virgin networks. May have been a temporary network glitch somewhere.

  3. The biggest problem has been the vaporizing of posts, while posting comments, for the last two years. On IPad and cell. Not on PC,.
    No swear words.
    No violence.
No obvious bad words, but posts disappear into the ether. Regularly. But, nothing has been done about it.

    1. I’ve found any word with the letters o, r, and c in it, such as f*rce, causes the post to disappear.

      1. That’s a product of the filter, instituted to limit abuse by certain users. I’ll see if I can alter it so it doesn’t catch innocent posts.

        1. I’ve been complaining about the word “f0rce” being filtered, and words containing those letters like “enf0rce” for a number of weeks now. Glad someone is finally taking notice.

As for the site itself being accessible, no issues here.

  4. I get access denied by wordfence often times when I use the site on my cell phone. It is an android.

  5. when eye git denied access, eye just open shithouse door, flush the toilet twice, and viola, access granted

  6. I am getting a ‘timeout’ error. Had to use a neighbour’s WI-FI earlier and am using a VPN right now, so it’s definitely related to my IP address…every other site still works fine for me.

I was actually posting when it went down.

    (glad it wasn’t just something I said…;)

      1. My local carrier was bought out last year by Getus Communications, cross-Canada service but based in Alberta. Internet location services usually place me in Waterloo, much to my amusement (never been to Ontario)…

        1. Update:

Still no luck connecting with my regular browser and ISP, but my ISP is actually called Cipherkey Exchange Corp….Getus is just who bills me. Connected through Shaw right now.

  7. No issues for me. Freedom and Lightspeed/Shaw.

Suspect ‘net routers doing DNS flushing.

  8. Hello to all, as of September, I acquired the StarLink hook up, have read & followed up suggested blogs, MSN, podcasts & many more. Posted on many & haven’t had any problems. 4yrs ago used to have same problems with Telus, Bell, Rodgers and Library WiFi’s. I just tossed it away & went completely old school, talking to people wherever I went asking what was happening & what was there opinion’s were. Doing the memory math count the results were 95% of people absolutely detested TruDope & JagButt the job they were doing for Canada. [turning Canada into a shithole country]. Just my opinion. Thanks.

  9. Using a VPN I get:

“Your access to this site was blocked by Wordfence, a security provider, who protects sites from malicious activity.
If you believe Wordfence should be allowing you access to this site, please let them know using the steps below so they can investigate why this is happening.”

Which I’ve done but nothing changes.

BTW Wordfence wants your name & email just to report their broken system’s error.

  10. I work in this field. For those of you using VPNs, that’s almost certainly the culprit. You don’t see it, but there is a ton of proxy layers in all modern web infrastructure dedicated to detecting and blocking the use of VPNs. Amusingly, it’s not Deep State hijinks; it’s entirely driven by the demand for high-quality advertising metrics.

  11. Sometimes comments work for me, sometimes not. Usually I don’t bother to find out. The webform looks like WordPress so I’ve assumed it’s more of Wordmess’s continuous mess-up. On the same day one site remembers me and even assigns me a quilt patch (though the patches no longer match, from site to site, the way they used to) and another one blocks me. Well, a site that no longer exists once set up a Weirdpress account for me and I no longer have the password for it, and life’s too short…I don’t allot much mental space to this.
