Welcome to the final month of 2024!!! What a year it has been, eh?!

To start things off this month, we travel back to August 1939 and present a documentary called Eve of War.

Bonus: Did you ever notice that the last 4 months of the year have an interesting pattern: Sept-ember (7), Oct-ober (8), Nov-ember (9), Dec-ember (10). Yet these prefixes appear to be incorrect given the actual number of the month in the year. It all goes back to the Roman calendar.

    Replace ‘right-wing government’ with ‘mafia’ and it’s a much more accurate image.

  2. Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec? I wasn’t about to start reading the calendar stuff. It looks too complicated but up to two or three hundred years ago the first month was March. History people know such things. Also I have a great great great grandfather born in France in year 2. The French revolutionary government started their own calendar.

  3. An Ontario town has been fined $10,000 and its officials ordered to complete mandatory “human rights” training after it refused to celebrate Pride Month. Emo is a township of about 1,300 people located in the far west of Ontario, along the border with Minnesota.
    In a decision handed down last week, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario ruled that Emo, its mayor and two of its councillors had violated the Ontario Human Rights Code by refusing to proclaim June as “Pride Month.” The town was also cited for failing to fly “an LGBTQ2 rainbow flag,” despite the fact that they don’t have an official flag pole.

  6. No link. Just something I noticed today as yet another indication that people are being squeezed financially and have cut back on the extras.

    I was watching the college football games today and a Starbucks ad came on. I can’t recall ever having seen a Starbucks TV ad before. My guess is that sales are down due to people cutting back on expensive coffee and they are advertising in an effort to increase sales.

    I wonder if McDonald’s coffee sales are up as former Starbucks addicts switch to a lower cost alternative.

    1. I think Starbucks does one ad a year around December for their annual “holiday” cup.
      I’ll have to ask my GF, she single handedly keeps one location in business with the $8 white mocha expresso crap she buys.
      99 cent Gas station for me. Kwik trip or Speedway.

      1. 5c cup from my kitchen into my go cup has been my goto for decades.
        Heard something the other day about Tims. Their coffee went downhill quite some time ago when they switched suppliers and apparently the coffee Tims abandoned was taken up by MacDonalds, which has been my preferred goto when buying coffee not made at home.
        My girlfriends son paid $1,500 for a coffee maker that ha figures will pay for itself because it makes what he like from Starbucks for $7.

    2. Any decent europe cafe serves a great coffee for €1.5 tho we choose to brew at home. Quality not quantity.

      1. Yeah, that’s been my experience. In the UK not so much. Mind you I haven’t been there in many years.

      3. About 5 years ago someone gave me a package of Timmy’s coffee grounds and it had a very unique appealing flavour. I bought a package recently and it tasted like a bargain brand. To people who drink Timmy’s coffee, has it really gone for shit?
