  1. Something that could be done immediately to alleviate this crisis is to offer to end the outrageous tariffs on imported dairy and poultry products. But even the Tories are loathe to end this economic hostage situation so I doubt we’ll see movement on that front, or at least not for some time.

The other way to look at this is that the Canadian dollar is on its way to a 25% devaluation anyway, thus negating the tariffs at the expense of Canadian living standards.

The Quebec dairy cartel is smart. They spend a lot of their money on the political leadership conventions, to ensure that the ‘right’ people are elected…people who now owe them, and will never threaten the status quo.

The only Canadian political leader who they haven’t bought, ironically, is Maxime Bernier.

      1. Fred
“who they haven’t bought, ironically, is Maxime Bernier.”
Are you trolling jessica the COLON?

      2. They didn’t need to buy off Bernier because he has no power and is not likely to get any. I agree with most of his ideas but he isn’t going anywhere as far as I can tell.

          1. “no kidding. its like Bernier is the one to look at to figure out what doesnt ‘sell’”

Telling the truth is often unpopular, especially when you have a non-threatening ‘liberal lite’ party like the CPC as your opponent.

        1. “They didn’t need to buy off Bernier because he has no power and is not likely to get any. I agree with most of his ideas but he isn’t going anywhere as far as I can tell.”

I don’t disagree…but a vote for the PPC and what they stand for still sends a clear message to the CPC about what they *should* be standing for.

        2. And, once Bernier is in a position to make a difference, he’ll disappoint like every other politician. He is first, and foremost, a politician.

    1. And Trump’s pick as Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra a former Michigan congressman. Michigan is a big dairy state. He knows the US dairy lobby

      1. ab
        Pete Hoekstra
An orher wooden shoes, wooden head, wooden listen GUY.

And for the slow on the uptake in here, that means he’s of dutch heritage.

  2. Imagine getting something positive done for your country good for Trump hasn’t even taken office yet and he has the puppets dancing

  3. Meanwhile MSNBC, CNN, and “The View’s” hair are all on fire! I don’t believe there’s enough popcorn on the planet for the coming attractions

    1. its a pent up reaction k, 8 years of demoncrat nonsense including Donald’s 1st term.
we’re all human we all make mistakes only the really evil ones dwell and dwell and dwell on past infractions whilst glossing over their own.
      gentlemen start your engines!!

      1. But, but, but … the FDA said Amish popcorn is unclean and dangerous! It’s rawwwww … it’s unpasteurized!! Oh my!!

  4. Paraphrasing what Poilievre said – Implementing a carbon tax in Canada when the US has none is like imposing a tariff on ourselves. Now we’ll have two!

  5. A bit of “tough love” might do us good in the long run. Trump’s first duty is to his people. Whether high tariffs is the right move, I don’t know. But I do despise Canadian cry babies who think that the US owes us special status because we are just such nice friendly people.

It’s funny, isn’t it? And the only obvious solution is the one we never even attempt: electing a Canadian leader who actually works for average Canadians, and not for the elites.

      1. Problem is … the elites try to stop such a Canadian leader from achieving office. So far only Harper made it …. I hope Poilievre can make it as well. If he means what he says .. he will be the right man for the gig.

        1. “Problem is … the elites try to stop such a Canadian leader from achieving office. ”

          True

“So far only Harper made it …. I hope Poilievre can make it as well. ”

Harper disappointed me by pulling a ‘bait and switch’ on Bill C-68.

“If he means what he says .. he will be the right man for the gig.”

That’s the problem, to me: he has a voting history that suggests otherwise.

(‘Islamophobia’, residential school ‘genocide’, support for the existing Quebec dairy cartel, etc…)

    1. Yep, I think Canadians also want to shut down the drug cartels and human trafficking operations in Canada. If Trudeau can’t work with Trump to investigate and prosecute activities that are crimes on both sides of the border then that says something is seriously wrong with the Trudeau government TBH, why hasn’t the Trudeau government been serious about disrupting these crimes because it’s in the interest of Canada, without first needing trade threats from another country.

      1. The other issue this dustup illustrates is why Canada needs to diversify its customer base wherever possible. Had the Trudeau government not made it nearly impossible for the private sector to build oil pipelines and natural gas pipelines to the coasts, we could have been shipping considerably more oil and gas to places like Asia and Europe. Ironically, Trudeau has made it easier for the US to dominate our economy.

        1. and part of that is hes a dilatant impossibly out of his league incapable of factoring in multiple considerations affecting a particular issue.

          1. Trudeau may be a dilettante but the people around him operate more like an organized crime syndicate than a national government. Money extracted from Canadian taxpayers is redistributed to “The Family ” of contractors, consultants, appointees, “chairities”, friends, family, etc. Much of the remainder is shipped off to affiliates of The Family in foreign countries and international organizations. Canadians get a few scraps, or promises of scraps, after everyone else has had their fill at the banquet paid for by Canadian taxpayers.

          2. LC Bennet, you hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head with your analysis!

We are surrounded by rent-seeking parasites. A good swamp-draining is in order (should anyone have the cojones to undertake it)

          3. oh LCB that hurt lol!!! (because THIS truth is VERY hurtful to this once decent, reasonably well managed ‘former nation state’.) lve concluded its a tossup if the TURDeau inflicted sufficient damage for it to be irreversible.
            #1 the debt.
#2 rest of the economy which in fact budgets do NOT balance themsleves
            #3 specifically housing
#4 additional areas like freebie drugs (HOW is that good? a tactic tried and FAILED already elsewhere previously?)
            #5 int’l relations

          4. Canada’s a mess because of the Trudeau Liberal-NDP government and the people who kept voting for them. The saving grace for Canada is that we have/can sell products that the world needs. The only thing standing in the way is our government. It’ll take time and hard work to clean up the mess but I think it can be done.

Houses prices can be stabilized by straightening out immigration and lowering fees and regulations. Diplomacy and trade can help international relations be restored. Drug polices can be changed to be sane.

          5. LCB
The libranos are a function of the laurentians. The quebekki’s who hand pick our prime ministers. They have a horse in every race sometimes 2. The riches/resources of the country belong to them. Remember the national energy policy? If they could have moved the oil sands to quebek they would have. As it was they tried to steal it.

The Bongs father operated from exactly the same play book. He was fine with his cabinet ministers profiting from their positions. Da liddle thief was a laurentien ‘made man’. You don’t have to look very far to see who these slime are. The Bong has a few in his front row

          6. Yes, central Canada’s fear of strong western provinces holds Canada back. So does squabbling between provinces. Politicians and other power brokers will always be greedy, stretching back to the Greeks, Romans and beyond, but in Canada it’s gone to absurd levels.

      1. iirc the lranian hostages were in a plane, in the air, crossing into int’l airspace timed right to the moment Reagan’s inauguration. THAT was a serious war hammer blow to carter’s face and reputation and legacy.
so ya, literally to the moment.
p.s. it was a ‘war of words’.

    1. I expect the Ukraine war will be over before he’s inaugurated.

Hopefully without the exchange of nukes in the meantime. President Puddin’ Cup (or whoever’s pulling his strings and catching his drool) seems to be Hell-bent on fanning the flames of war to a point that Trump will have a metric sh!t-ton of flash fires to put out upon inauguration.

      1. like him or not Putin *already knows* all this, and assuredly will NOT be ‘played’.
oh the threats of retaliation, the shuffling of mobile launchers will all happen but he is NOT going to ‘push the button’.certainly not within 2 months of the Trump take over.

I agree…Putin has nothing to lose and everything to gain by waiting. He may even stop taking more territory if the Ukrainians just stop retreating in front of him and stand their ground.

” or whoever’s pulling his strings and catching his drool”
the gay communist black jeezus be who!

      3. Trump will have a metric sh!t-ton of flash fires to put out upon inauguration.

Don’t worry, Trump has a very big hose.

      4. I don’t think Putin is in any position to hit the switch. The Ruskie economy is far from robust. The country is fatigued from the war in Ukraine. They’ve had to call in a favour to find troops to send to the front. Sure they have nukes but they aren’t near as tough as Vlad would make them out to be. They’ve had a helluva time with the ‘outmatched’ Ukes

Putin will accept a Trump peace deal. The borders will be redrawn and Z will move to Florida.

  6. Overheard, on the Washington – Ottawa hotline:

“You STOP that right NOW, Canada!”

“Huh – some dumb MAGA crap, or something. Booooo-riiiiing…” -_-

    ” – or it’s gonna’ COST you – BIGLY!!!”

“Oh yes Sir, YES SIR, I’ll secure the border!” Just like those “yeah-whatever” remarks about the ‘made-in-Canada’ Chinese aluminum shipments last time…

  7. Claudia Sheinbaum the president of Mexico came out swinging at Trump and his comment on tarriffs. She’s no shrinking violet. She said Mexico will retaliate. Trump will need the cooperation of Mexico if he wants to tighten the border and stem the drug flow. Sheinbaum suggested the US has a drug addiction problem amongst it’s citizens. She’s right there.

    1. – and the fentanyl is made from Chinese ingredients, in Mexico – and increasingly, Canada. Long past time for a serious Trump-style crackdown on both of the U.S.’s neighbours…

    2. Too funny. Mexico will get its ass kicked….big time. Yes, the US has a drug addiction problem….caused by Mexican labs and Chinese products. And of course, we aren’t immune here either.

      1. “Too funny. Mexico will get its ass kicked….big time. ”

        And immediately.

I think she’s just doing the Latin machismo thing for her voters…no way is she dumb enough to consider actually doing anything serious about this.

    3. “Claudia Sheinbaum the president of Mexico came out swinging at Trump and his comment on tarriffs. She’s no shrinking violet. She said Mexico will retaliate.”

LOL…okay, Claudia. Go for it. Give up all 78% of your trade with the US, and see how long you last…

      1. And lets see how long the US lasts without all those illegal nannies, gardners, cooks, bottle washers, farm labourers – need I continue?

Oh and the US drug problem isn’t caused by fentanyl manufactured in China. Taking drugs is a voluntary societal problem. It doesn’t matter who makes if you want to consume it.

        1. Remember when Trump got pissed at the Mexicans and made them build that wall. And pay for it!

The bottom line is 3 countries have trade agreements for a reason. They all benefit. Some fine tuning is now going to take place. Maybe. There are many interests in an economy the size of the USA. When their ox is being gored they immediately hear about at 1600 Pennsylvania.

          1. “Remember when Trump got pissed at the Mexicans and made them build that wall. And pay for it!”

Nope…but I do remember Trump starting construction on the wall that they would have paid for. Then I remember Joe Biden stopping construction and *selling for scrap* the materials that hadn’t yet been installed.

        2. “And lets see how long the US lasts without all those illegal nannies, gardners, cooks, bottle washers, farm labourers – need I continue? ”

Not if you can’t tell the difference between an all-out trade war and some illegal/undocumented workers in the southern states, no (but thanks for asking).

          1. Is Trump going to finish the wall this time? Is Mexico going to pay for it?

An all out trade war where everybody loses? That’s usually what takes place. America has become addicted to cheap Mexican labour. They aren’t going to flush their economy down the toilet to make a point.

  8. President Trump will green light the Keystone XL pipeline on day one and impose a 25% tariff on Canada’s exports and I’m lovin’ it!
    Suck it Easterners.

  9. No one else mentioned that Poilievre used the word “unjustified” in regard to Trump’s tariff plans. That was rather clever of him because it completely heads of the obvious Lieberal talking point of “you are more aligned with Trump than you are with Canadians”.

  10. Justine will require us to wear Taylor Swift Friendship Bracelets to get back into Canada. Because he manages border security from the heart outwards.

    1. I wonder if the following is playing in Justin’s head 24/7:

      Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
      Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
      Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s singing Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s singing Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s singing Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbayah
      Someone’s crying Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s crying Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s crying Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s praying Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s praying Lord, kumbaya
      Someone’s praying Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya
      Oh Lord, kumbaya

  11. Pollievre should counter Trudeau’s gst tax cut by raising the bid to double the length of time it’s in place. And it will be passed as soon as the Liberals release the documents required by the House.

  12. What language was PP speaking? Can he not express himself in the common language (lingua Franca), that is English?

    1. If you would have scrolled ahead, He repeated the whole thing in English.

To answer your question … he was speaking French. You must be new to Canada.

      1. “If you would have scrolled ahead, He repeated the whole thing in English.

To answer your question … he was speaking French. You must be new to Canada.”

I tried scrolling myself, but it was ‘live’, so I just gave up.

  13. Frankly, the only thing I’m surprised about here is Trudeau hasn’t already announced we’re joining up with BRICS.

  14. Juthtin: “I thwear we’re gong to do thomthing about our thecurity.”
Donald: “Too late Justy. And now I’m going golfing and all my golf balls have your two faces on them.”

  15. Made it through the first 30 seconds and pressed stop. He’s a central Canadian/Laurentian Elite puppet.
