The pictures out of Spain..pretty obvious what the consequences of building urban infrastructure across drainage basins are.
And who knew ..It can rain in Spain?
Oh the horror.
Urban Man..Retards.
Is stupidity contagious?
As the larger the group, the dumber the decision making.
Build on flood plains, then whine about the water flowing through your living room.
You obviously don’t know Spanish geography, specifically its coastal areas. Almost all of Spain’s coastline is a narrow to wide strip of beaches and easily inhabitable areas backed by lines of low hills, and behind that in many parts mountains, not Alp-like but mountain nonetheless.
Occasionally there are supper heavy rains that send water rushing down from the mountains and hills through river valleys and arroyos, or wadis, with the water usually not overflowing the arroyos and rivers.
But sometimes there are superstorms that spew so much rainfall that the arroyos and rivers overflow and streets also become raging rivers.
That’s what happened in Valencia and had very little to do with mostly non-existent flood plains and building urban infrastructure across drainage basins.
Exactly correct.
Did you read the part where it said that floods used to be controlled by dams, then envirowackos had them torn out?
But Rusty … don’t you know that everything built by the Army Corps of Engineers (and their Spanish cohorts) are baaaaad MmmmmKay? So my “enlightened” generation tore out every “concrete solution” devised by Engineers who did not “carrrrrre” for the environment. My generation put the land back to its natural repose. You know … we are trying to live the way the Indians did …
So why aren’t the so-called environmentalists THRILLED by the floods THEY engineered?
Kinda Reminds me of those who live in a Town south of Calgary Called
“HIGH RIVER”. Residents were totally Flabergasted when said river overflowed its banks.
DUH…what the F did you “think” said towns name meant..???
Modern Humanity not all that Bright…
Yes, I remember saying to myself “Why is it called High River?” at the time.
Maybe people thought it meant Low Price
Excellent local reefer.
This breaks my heart. I was in northeastern Spain back in September, walking the Camino Frances, and even there they’d had flash flooding and mudslides in places like the Somport Pass (just north of the border in France), where a slide took out a mountain road and the associated trails that were part of a Camino route. The day I was to walk the Route Napoleon from St. Jean Pied-de-Port to Roncesvalles, heavy rains, low temperatures and fog created havoc along the route and really messed up a lot of people’s plans, injuring quite a few and leaving others hypothermic.
Similar experience six years ago at the end of September, taking trains from Paris to Barcelona. We were almost five hours late due to torrential rains and flooding, which don’t get along well with electric trains. Most of the border area looked like a lake. I was assured at that time that these intense episodes were relatively frequent during the Fall months.
And who knew ..It can rain in Spain?
Yeah but, it usually stays mainly on the plain.
Environmentalists see dams as a man made intrusion on the natural world and they must be destroyed, regardless the practical uses. Reasonable people understand that dams give protection against both droughts and floods, provide irrigation, are drinking water reservoirs, and sometimes generate hydroelectricity.
Environmentalists and regular people live in different realities but politicians have completely stopped listening to anyone except radical environmentalists. We can see the tragic results with that type of political (non) thinking.
Dams allow humans to divert and store excess water, controlling floods and runoff.
The green commies need to be mocked and ostracized at every turn.
And dams are what are called “no regrets” infrastructure that are a net positive whether you believe in climate change or think it’s a hoax. Climate change adherents keep saying that storms will intensify and it is known that dams can mitigate the damage. The fact that they want to destroy dams indicates that they want to see tragic consequences for humans in natural disasters. Sorta like not clearing out dead trees in the fire prone forests around Jasper. These are warped and twisted fanatics.
Does this mean the EU High Priests & Priestesses of Gaia failed? Failed to correctly read the entrails from their sacrifices regarding dams in Spain? What are 219 deaths compared to the climate change cause embraced with joy by the EU and their fearless leader Greta the Dim.
If it saves just one fish…
And yet around these parts – and perhaps in Canada too – the eco-zealots at the same time promote the installation of “rain gardens” – WHICH ARE ESSENTIALLY A FORM OF DAM – in that they hold and gradually release stormwater into the underlying ground, with overflow going into the original stormwater discharge routes.
Why would Spain simply rip out all those dams because the EU told them to do so. Me thinks someone in Spain got a heap of money for that. Start there. Also, if you insist on living in a river valley or in a delta (remember the flood in Delta, B.C.?) you’re going to get wet, maybe even drown.
