It is appalling the degree to which unions, not just CUPE have involved themselves in supposed social justice causes, forgetting their mandate is to deal with labor issues for their members, all their members not just the ones they feel have the “ right” opinions on these issues. This should not be tolerated. Equally disgusting is how unions have somehow managed to appear as intervenors in the court case against the SK government over the parental involvement legislation. Again stick to your mandate. None of these union executives have any particular expertise in any of the subjects and its unclear why they think they should be involved.

      unions were necessary at the turn of the 20th century, they gave us 40 hour week, pd holidays, decent friggin wages, recognition of tradesme,. health benefits, all the stuff that spilled over into the bigger workplace.
      now theyre literally in the pocket of the mob for one thing. google jimmy hoffa. he could make or break an employer, ordering any and all unionistas to ‘toe the line’ and ‘support their brothers on the picket line’
      fcuk ’em. all unions did for me was to block access to the zhob market.
      my plumber brother, retired after a successful thriving business for 3 decades + refused the entire time to hire a striker or former member. he knew of their ingrained ‘work to rule’ attitude.

  8. Unions did not give workers the 40 hour work week. Capitalism accomplished that through technology that vastly improved productivity.

    I’ve never heard of a union that promised to increase production. Quite the opposite.

    Today the worst of the worst are the public sector unions like CUPE who are there to deliver government services.

    1. Government unions were formed well after trade unions by individuals that couldn’t pass muster for entrance into a qualified trade union. These people have been instrumental in degrading the work ethic that build our society. The loosening of standards that fall under the guise of compassion and understanding are a hallmark of government unions. I could start a tirade and rant with multiple examples over this topic but I’m sure there will be Karens and Kens that will mightily object and inundate the site with their ‘feelings’, so I’ll leave it there.

    1. And then they’d be dead. I got a laugh out of the latest weather reports and media screaming about elevated temperatures. “600 People Might Die.” In a typical year, cold weather kills 6x as many people as does hot weather.
