I can vividly recall my frustration at having to see Frances Russell’s and Val Werier’s leftist screeds populating the editorial pages of the Winnipeg Free Press back in the 80s. Fast forward to the present day, where technology continues to level the media playing field, introducing informational symmetry in ways I could not have dreamt of in my youth. But some people remain deeply dissatisfied with that. Apparently, the latest technology is just making us, well, ungovernable.
So, the telephone was great, the postal system was great. Social media is not like those earlier innovations.
They don’t want to see the lion and the Christian making nice; they want the one to kill the other. That’s what Twitter is often like.
I am very concerned that there is no longer any source of authority. There is no trusted authority, there is no way to find consensus on truth. It seems that the truth-seeking mechanisms, including the courts, came up with the answer that the last presidential election in the U.S. was not stolen. But there’s no real way to spread that around to the large portion of society that believes that it was.
Heinlein was always right:
“Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.”
So, the people who come up with more reasons to sick cops on people are the bad guys, and always have been. Most Canadians are bad guys, and have been ever since MADD became a thing, ever since they banned cigarette vending machines and lawn darts, ever since they banned concealed carry…
The Left, and the institutions aligned it, are always authoritarian in nature. This might be a soft, patriarchal authoritarianism or a hard, tyrannical authoritarianism.
The Leftist media wants to control information, control people’s thoughts.
Last I checked, it was the right that wants to ban TikTok.
And immigrants and drugs.

Neither. They found various technical reasons to bounce the cases without hearing evidence, so the claim that they said the election was not stolen is just another lie.

I doubt that truth cares what the consensus is… it only needs be let loose for all to see.
Now that 99% of the Canadian media is on welfare, why would anyone believe their version of the truth… the truth they have for sale and provided by the gov’t of the day? Wasn’t it their job to question authority?

The current situation is hardly unprecedented-we had the same conspiracy loons in service to a GOP leftist 50 years ago and his name was Nixon. No internet required.
