Globe and Mail- Changes to capital-gains tax may prompt doctors to quit, CMA warns
This is important for physicians because most operate their practices as small businesses through medical professional corporations, which leaves them more sensitive to changes in capital-gains rules than a salaried worker might be.
The CMA estimated in 2017 that 66 per cent of physicians practised through corporations.

None of this deals with the issue. A government and bureaucrats that are a cancer on the host. The leeches keep sucking and never demonstrate their worth to the host
Any so-called solutions to problems put forth by Turdoo just makes things worse.
There is nothing that the Trudeau / Singh coalition cannot turn to crap. Nothing. We would be better with no government than this government.
That is always the case, not just now.
This is because civil servants or any public employees (I am looking at you teachers!) have no understanding of how the real world works. Not only do doctors/dentists have corporations, but when I worked for an Organic Food Co-op, the really good farmers all had corporations to finance the farm business. When I read about the changes to the capital gains tax, I thought “Oh No!, This is going to come back and bite them in the bum!”
Yep:

Good one, Junior and Jughead, with an able assist by our finance goblin.
Oh I can smell an exemption brewing.
Yep, early and often. As usual with this clownshow, it will end up collecting 35 cents from the three people too dumb to find an excemption.
Oh…then they come after us, because we’re the next rich.
has there ever been a liberal government that has done any good for Canada, I think not
How soon you ‘ve forgotten! A Liberal government under Lester Bowles Pearson gave us the lovely flag we now adore, in all Liberal colors! 1965.
Just back from the accountant for the year end and as discussed above . . . The professional corporation for most physicians IS their retirement/pension fund. The snivelling servants get their pensions from the peasants/taxpayers via the government so they have no need to save for retirement and live off the capital gains. But professionals do have to and the result of the proposed changes is one more punitive tax on the people who worked and saved. The result will be, as half my classmates decided: better move to the US.
But I thought healthcare was not for profit? Who are these doctors who are looking to profit from healthcare and why is this allowed?
Remember waaay back when the Feds changed the Tax rules that had previously allowed Dr’s. accountants, etc to write their professional income off against expenses accrued by RENTAL properties they owned? Almost immediately following that, professionals started putting their money into building condos INSTEAD of rentals.
How’d that work out for you Federal leaches?
Most of us can at least see the possible repercussions of decisions we make …not the f**ing Gov’t. (ALL of them)
The Canadian federal government is the enemy of every citizen except the poor.
That’s why Its always trying to impoverish the rest of us.
They’re an enemy to the poor as well. It’s just that many of the poorest can’t see past the few crumbs the government tosses them once in a while.
We need a new country.
How many years has it been since anyone elected into the #Librano gov’t of tier 2 canada had any business experience?
And why would anyone invest in tier 2 canada? Better to invest outside the country until this fiasco runs its course. And then, only temporary as you know the #Libranos will return in 5-8 years.
What’s the complaint? In Mao’s cultural Revolution … upon which Trudeau has been fashioning Canada’s cultural Revolution … Doctors were demoted to become Janitors … as education, intelligence, and training are considered tools of the bourgeois dogs.
I’ll be pissed if they make a carve-out for doctors. They claim to be closing loop holes, not diddling with the tax rules.
because Liberal . . . . .
Similar concept to how we fixed our cat.
I’m still waiting to hear the press notice that these changes to capital gains will adversely affect builders of housing the most, since their business model is all capital gains…
Contrast that with the government demanding that more housing be built.
