Canada is committing another $132.2 million in humanitarian funding to help people displaced by the violent conflict in Sudan that has been raging for the past year, the government announced Friday.
The conflict has killed thousands of civilians, forced millions of people to flee within Sudan and to neighbouring African countries and created one of the world’s worst hunger crises. The United Nations’ World Food Program has warned about a third of the country’s population, or 18 million people, face acute hunger, with five million on the verge of starvation.
“The humanitarian situation is dire,” Canada’s International Development Minister Ahmed Hussen told Global News in an interview.

Although the South Sudanese are predominantly Christian and trying to maintain a separate state, which has been a source of conflict in this area, so I do have empathy.

From 2001 to 2021 the government has given $1,175,502,210 to Sudan, and $$1,014,737,610 to South Sudan, and has nothing to show for it, though I bet the dictators in charge have really nice cars, houses and fat Swiss bank accounts.
If islam wasn’t in Sudan, would the problem still exist?
I think the entirety of the #Libranos gov’t cabinet should travel there for a fact finding mission and report back in August. That’s what I think.
I doubt if sending a trillion there instead of a mere billion will help. Is money the problem? Or is inter tribes hatred and their religions? Is there a “People’s Liberation Army” which would like to settle a score?

Yearly foreign aid by Canada has got to be pretty close to 10 billion now.
Then add in the tens of billions – the estimates are yuge – that immigrants send “back home” every year.
Certainly people can do what they want with their own money, but how much of it is state welfare?
