  1. If one is living in an area prone to flooding, then putting the home up on stilts is a smart move.

    1. Been doing that KIND A thing in Holland for centuries. Homes built that will float with 4 massive posts on all corners keeping them in their alloted spot.

      The North Sea has had a penchant for flooding the Scheldt on more than one occasion…the last time in 1954, was devastating. Right then n there the Dutch Govt decided to permanently FIX the issue…Anyone travelling there can now see the massive dams, diversions etc of concrete & steel used in mitigating Floods as well as the Rhine River.

      Since that time, and simultaneously I do believe, the Zuider Sea was Diked, drained & became one of the most Productive chunks of land found anywhere on the planet.

      I was born there, goal is to go back and check this stuff out.

    We had a neighborhood crawfish and shrimp boil this past Thanksgiving. There were about 30 of us went in for the corn, potatoes, crawfish, andouille sausage, and shrimp. We threw in some carrots, and pearl onions just for a little extra flavor and the veggies.

    So, not as basic as the crawfish boil in the video, but YUM!

    P.S. Nothing like a good SPICY alligator Po’ boy when you can get one.

  3. Watching all that local food being harvested and sold in plastic bags and containers down at the local store … reminded me to ask … Where is the FDA!? They bring down the full weight of Federal government powers on The Amish for selling raw milk … why not crack down on the crawdad and alligator trade? It’s a serious question. Our government has become so capricious in the way it exercises its totalitarian authority … I remain suspect of every word and action from the Feds. Not because I’m a fringe, paranoid whack job … but because I’m rational and analytical.

    PS … I kept looking for the “double wide” on stilts … but it appeared to all be single wides. I assume there are additional structural difficulties involved in perching a double wide. Then … I think of the CBC (California Building Code) … which includes a detailed section on mobile homes … and noticed I didn’t see anything looking like a code-compliant stair to those elevated trailers. And I wonder what the local Design Review Commission thinks of those … and it makes me wonder what Sean Penn and the other Hollywood dogooders would think of that innovative design … since they were all designing “cutting edge” replacement homes for the poor after Katrina.

    1. Kenji, you ask where’s the FDA? The Amish don’t shoot back. Alligators take care of any loose ends.

      (Not sure myself whether or not I’m joking. You think the county sheriff is going to let some gummint schlub shut down his favorite crawfish joint? Probably not.)

      1. Don’t be silly. Brad Pitt was just far ahead of the curve …

        Another Make It Right-owned property was offered up at a tax sale in 2020 for delinquent taxes dating back to 2017. (The organization has until next year to pay off that debt, or the tax certificate buyer can take over the property’s title.) And a 34th property was recently seized and sold by the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to pay $1,205 in fines for sanitation violations and “rodent harborage.”

        Brad Pitt was way ahead of the “marketing” strategy sweeping the country now of ‘squatters rights’. Pitt’s now giving all these folks really, really, cheap homes. All they need do is squat and pay the delinquent property tax bill. Yes, the errant designs and construction may have caused a deadly mold problem … but that’s nothing a complete saturation of Clorox throughout the entire building frame couldn’t solve. For a while.

  4. Trailers on stilts? Hell, we put whole houses on stilts. I don’t need to spend an hour watching this. I’m a Coon-Ass. I live it.

    And yes, if it moves we got a recipe for it. And no, we ain’t telling.
