Another Day, Another Scam

CTV- Ottawa daycare operators say $10/day program not working

Saba Al-Odeh is the owner of Little Heroes Daycare Centre in Ottawa and says it’s been an uphill battle ever since opting into the $10-a-day program. Cheaper daycare was one of the Liberal government’s biggest promises, but now the program is struggling, with daycare operators warning of closures if things don’t change. “I don’t get a profit, we are not even breaking even,” Al-Odeh said. “The prices don’t reflect the expenses we are having at this moment.”

  1. Same goes for pharmacies and dental clinics, with a whole new regime of redundancies and costly complexity solely benefitting a bunch of regressive progressives pandering for power.

Irresponsible government leaves everyone but favored oligarchs on their inevitable journey to our shared misery.

  2. Ghost problem: Day Care Centers can’t make a profit on promises made by the Federal Government.

Real Problem: People procreating without taking 20 minutes to determine whether they can afford to raise a child inclusive of Day Care costs.

    1. Real problem:
      Western women stopped procreating.
Stone age people could do it, but now its “unaffordable” to folk who would rather have an automatic lawn sprinkler system.

      1. Really Real Problem: Parents want a third party to raise their kids instead of one of them staying home to do it.

        1. We could always follow the North Korea model. Drop the kid off at government daycare Sunday evening, pick him/her up Friday evening. Weekend with Mom & Dad! Kid wonders “Who are these people I only see on weekends?”
I watched this on a RT documentary a while back. The commenter didn’t make any negative remarks but you could tell by his tone of voice that he found this really odd.

        2. Really really real problem, really. Both parents are forced to work because the government takes half.

    2. Pretend problem: kids these days can’t look after their own brats because they just pop ’em out without even thinking!

Actual problem: Young people of marriageable, child-bearing age can’t afford to get married, leave Mom’s basement and move in together, much less have kids.

Deeper problem: The above society-destroying situation is the planned result of government policy.

Just remember Orson, none of this is an accident.

  3. If and when the Conservatives get into power, they’ll be faced with a series of spending obligations which will prevent them from reducing the government and deficit as much as they would like. For the first few years at least, their hands will be tied.

The government day care program is one of those spending obligations. If it’s in trouble then that will be some good news for Poilievre.

  4. This is what happens when businesses don’t understand economy. They go broke.
If a business is not profitable it dies. Governments really don’t understand economy, so don’t get into business with them.
That is a law of nature.

  5. Hey folks, the word is still STUPID. Carry on until you have destroyed yourselves and the rest of your family, neighbors, friends and apparently no one gives a damn.

  6. $10.00 a day indoctrination day care facilities subsidized with borrowed money (at huge umentioned subsequent cost). Result: two million +people now using food banks and many more at risk of losing their homes. Yup, the Liberal (socialist) plan is definitely working.

  7. Two bucks an hour to look after your snot nosed brat?

How many snot nosed brats would you need to keep the lights on, feed’em lunch, and pay one employee?

Sad fat girls take “Early Childhood Education” and there’s lots of them, so you don’t have to pay them much – but if they fixed themselves up a little they could hopefully find a decent guy who’s not busy getting high, perhaps learning a trade or something – and then they could have their own kids, which is what they really want in the first place.

  8. I read years ago that in Quebec’s vaunted $10/day day care program, most of the spaces were taken up by the kids of civil servants and other parents were simply SOL.
I didn’t expect this program would live up to expectations, and it will undoubtedly not disappoint me.

  9. At least everybody on both sides of the aisle have totally given up on free market solutions.

  10. ?
    good grief.
    this isnt subsidized ???????
call me naive but with that pitiful # fergive me l assumed the subsidy would simply match the location or some such.
because WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND thought 10 bucks was enough?
hint: how much are 1 disposable diaper and a jar of baby food?
if the total starts looking like a ten failure will follow.

    prrrrrrrfffffttt stooooopid. . . . . . . .

    1. There is definitely subsidy. When they rolled out the scheme in Ontario, there were attempts to prevent day cares from hiking the rates. I think the issue for providers is that the plan did not include inflationary adjustments. What started out as a workable budget is now severely short on cash. There may be differences from one municipality to another, but it is unlikely they are getting more federal dollars to make up the shortfall. If we start hearing about “greedy day care operators” you know the silencing is underway.

  11. Of course the private daycares are going to go out of business… the Libs don’t want privately run daycares, they want government departments and unionized employees. It’s funny that no matter how stupid you think this government is, they can outdo themselves. Quebec introduced $10 daycare decades ago and yet the Liberals think that despite utterly destroying our currency in the intervening years that charging the same amount now is somehow feasible.

  12. Government bureaucracy, party apparatchiks and other socialist schemes never worked, never, every time it was tried.
The only people that make money on the socialist/fascist government schemes are the scammers of the bureaucracy and their fascist friends.
Just look at the recent scams.

  13. The largest cost for young families, or any citizen, is the cost of government. Unfortunately the debt has handcuffed politicians who have to buy votes with borrowed money feeding into the cycle. If politicians had to put their hands into their own pockets, families could afford their own childcare.
