I think this same snapshot of the UK’s near future, could be applied to both Canada and the USA.
It’s doubtful that the UK will make the changes necessary, the same as change will fought against here.
When the debit machines say, “no funds available” … then change may be brought.

and, I think the UK is going to have a Labour gov’t next time round.

There are so many different problems in Canada which need to be resolved and which cannot, outside of an overhaul of our bullshit constitution, that I am without hope for Canada’s future.

I’d prefer to simply have the regions separate and make their own way without anyone trying to repair the damage of +150 years of federal malfeasance.

A sobering article but most here had all of the points highlighted twenty years ago. The three options on correcting/repairing the mess we find ourselves in are pipe, pie in the sky dreams. There is no way out of the death spiral that the West finds itself in. Conservatives in Canada and Britain are nothing more than shadows of their predecessors, in trying to sway soft Liberal/Labour voters they have abandoned conservative principles that built these countries. Socialism doesn’t work for a reason, mankind is inherently lazy! All of the innovations and inventions that have given us the modern world is because someone found an easier way of working. The downside to this is that as we are giving the coming generations no reason to work. The Liberal/NDP/Labour mentality of governments providing everything is the con job of humanity. There is no free lunch. Education, health care, dental care, garbage collection, policing, roads, highways, bridges, national defence, all have a cost. The ability to pay those costs depends on the ability of the governed to pay the taxes required. Under socialism the costs are infinite but the ability to pay is finite, and therein lies the problem!!!! At some point the socialist government runs out of taxpayer dollars and we passed that point decades ago that is why we face climbing federal deficits across the West.
