The comments section of this blog is not your open sewer. I try to keep a light touch on moderation, but those who persist on spamming each other with insults will be banned, and I don’t care how many new personas you try to get back in. Guest authors also have the green light to nuke your comments, so consider that before you comment.

Thank you Kate. I love your blog and have followed along for many years. The comments are usually quite entertaining and informative. I appreciate most of the banter, but when scrolling past the bull$#!+ becomes a chore, it diminishes the value.
SDA has always been under attack by trolls. I used to look to comments section for thoughtful responses for and against. Then i realized what a waste of time and a minefield of idiocy.
Totally agree, Kate; as CodexCoder mentioned above, I’d pass on SDA recommendations more often except for the fact that the ad hominum comments reflect back on my judgement.

I’ve followed you daily since you started the blog a long, long time ago. SDA has always been a little haven of reasonable conservative debate, but unfortunately that debate has hit the gutter in the past while. Some people still don’t get it. (See above).

So I’m very supportive of you having to ban those responsible for ruining your comment sections where I often find a wealth of information, thoughtful comments and POVs that I may not have considered. Not to mention you cover many topics that our legacy media won’t.

I avoid ever engaging or replying to Trolls. I simply post, “don’t feed the trolls” every time. The trolls will eventually dry up and float away if they are ignored, feeding em, just makes em come back for more!

It’s interesting to note that both readers and writers are affected by pseudonyms. They actually can run deep into the psychology on either side whether one stops to consider it or not. On the writing side I would imagine resentment would be least desirable.

My contributions to the fray here haven’t always been appreciated while other comments however inane or well considered have; and it’s always most gratifying when appreciative response is recieved after a bit of effort.
Given all of the above in this comment thread it seems now would be a good time to retire the pen and read on for further enjoyment, consternation, or invisible apoplectic tantrums.
I should just make sure I’m still allowed to post. I take some guilty pleasure in taunting some of the offenders here, much as I take pleasure in tossing lit matches into nests of bedbugs: the frenzies of the mindless creatures entertain my gentler nature. And frankly, some of them offer irresistible set-up lines.
I do find these guys tiresome, but I’m generally willing to put up with them because the quality of commentary here is otherwise so high, and keeping the door open lets the worthwhile stuff in as well as the rubbish. But it’s not my blog, and if they’re not showing Kate due respect, they deserve what they get. If I ever decide to advocate mass murder, I promise to start my own blog and do there, not here. This is one of the more respectable places that I get to hang around in, and I’m grateful for the privilege.
