Second day in a row, Alberta’s wind power utterly collapes. Had to relearn how to interpret scientific notation for this one. What does 6.694934166480696e-4 mean? Something like 0.07 per cent of nameplate output? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 42 times, shame on me, as only 3 of Alberta’s 45 wind farms produced power at points of Monday night
The population of countries like Canada and Germany sit calmly in the bus that is being driven off a cliff, sure in their hearts that “it’s the right thing to do for the environment”.
More likely they sit calmly in the bus because mommy government says so, and it takes courage to tell mommy “no”. Courage is very scarce in the west these days. Thus the kowtowing to Islam and demonization of Christianity. Christians won’t cut your throat when you criticize them, Muslims not so much.
Most people don’t think it’s a problem because they have other things to concern themselves with and they have been gaslit by the government for the past twenty years. Most people are going to be completely surprised and wonder what happened when the lights go out.
Surely you know that there’s no way anyone except you will report on this by now? This is excellent analysis, but perhaps someone else can find out how much advertising money is being spent by the feds to Global, Rogers, cbc, or any others to convince the public that the climate crisis is real and here Right Now!!
These talking heads are obviously forbidden to speak out against anything for fear of losing money from less taxpayers advertising dollars.
Funny how it’s not the lead story on CBC, CTV, Global, Edmonton Journal, etc?
So the Epoch Times might be republishing this story today.
“sustained windspeeds of zero”. Ha.
The problem with nameplate capacity is the big difference between it and actual generation. Like when I was a kid and had a very high nameplate capacity for not getting into trouble (according to my mother), but a much different actual capacity (according to my father) 😉
Tear them all down and stop trying to save the planet.
This planet will once again be pristine a million years from now. After we are long gone.
The madness around climate needs to end.
There is nothing coming that we cannot adapt to, as we have done for 1000s of years.
With an average capacity factor of between 26 and 30% for wind power, days with zero output is not news. It’s a feature not a bug. Alberta has likely closed too many coal-fired plants before having sufficient gas plants up and running to cover 100% of the grid capacity less firm hydro power. When succumbing to green delusions of the energy illiterate built into your grids, you must plan on their utility as non-existent when needed.
The real grift of wind and solar is that someone else has to back you up 100% at their cost rather than the guaranteed purchase of wind and solar whenever produced whether its needed or not. If they were required to deliver grid demanded power on their own, they couldn’t compete.
After years of far-left idiocy, Alberta now has to import electricity. And not because of crazy weather, but just because.
My monthly energy bills now regularly exceed $500.
And as much as I loathe the POS puppets in gov’t for bringing about this obvious destruction, I reserve most of my anger for the absolute imbeciles on the left of the political spectrum who are so moronic as so clap their hands as they help burn Rome. While thinking themselves to be wise.
Useful idiots indeed.
Our power bills are around a 100..?
l still believe there are applications for mini hydro dams, solar panels, and wyynedfarms.
l actually do. because of the remoteness of the location, temporary measures, abundance of wind *somewhere*, etc.
but ONLY to augment and draw ‘free’ energy where technically and economically advisable.
but with predictions that AI processing power demands will match that of a small country and cryptocurrency mining already there, we CANNOT abandon traditional coal gas and nuke, the ‘big boys club’.
the fierceness and absurdity of oppostition causes me to question the claim hoomanhs are the ‘most intelligent’ species.
the other puzzle is speaking of powah, how did me manage to put SO MUCH of it in a bunch of brain damaged juveniles calling the shots. destroying the spirit of this nation.
Windmills cost a hug amount of money to construct and decommission after they are worn out, that makes every kw/hr costs more than conventional sources. There is nothing “free” about wind, except the subsidies for rent seekers. They cost taxpayers plenty.
Back in 2008 I got lost in a part of the German country-side which happened to contain one of those giant-windmills. Fortunately, I came upon a local who spoke English very well (with a slight English accent) and asked for directions to get myself back on to the autobahn. It was a nice day and he had time to chat. I asked him about the windmill, which was not turning, hence not generating electricity (it was a windy day) and he told me that they were useless because they couldn’t provide enough power to keep his porch light on (his words). One would think the Canadian “brain-trusts” at the municipal, provincial and federal levels would have done some research and spoken to countries that actually had these bird-killers installed for a number of years before blowing billions of tax-payer dollars on the same white elephant.
Judith Curry, in a recent post on The Social Media Site Formerly Known As Twitter, notes a policy analyst who opines that we need to stop calling wind and solar “renewables” in policy discussions etc.
I suggested, amongst other things, that perhaps we can refer to them with the acronym LEWD (Low Efficiency Weather Dependent) energy.
Don’t hate me.
Here in Alberta, there is ZERO wind when the temperature reaches +30 or -30*C. Also, when it is -30*C or more, we receive approximately 8 hours of daylight to produce electricity. This whole save the planet idea will kill thousands of people due to exposure. The only carbon sequestration of note will be all of the buried dead ex-citizens. The only feasible way to avoid this outcome is pure NUCLEAR power, also opposed by the same GREENTARDS.
