Morning update: Scenes of significant damage are beginning to come in.
Morning devastation.

If you’re anywhere near Acapulco, take cover.
In a shocking turn of events, Hurricane #Otis in the Eastern Pacific has unexpectedly, explosively intensified from a tropical storm to a Category 4 hurricane in just 12 hours.
Even worse, the storm is expected to make a catastrophic landfall tonight as a Category 5 hurricane near Acapulco, Mexico, home to 1 million people.
Only 18 hours ago, people were expecting a tropical storm at landfall, and now a devastating Category 5 storm is likely.
This is pretty much a worst-case scenario, as residents have little time to find a safe shelter and protect life and property from this life-threatening storm.
A major hurricane (Category 3+) has never made landfall within 50 miles of Acapulco, let alone a Category 5 hurricane.
Otis could become the first Eastern Pacific hurricane ever recorded to make landfall as a Category 5 in Mexico.
Anyone in or near Acapulco should rush storm preparations to completion as their is little time left to shelter from #Otis.
Ryan Maue – “Nightmare scenario” for coastal Mexico…

Holy crap!!!!!!!!

Must be due to all the flying done by Justin Trudeau and Joe Biden.
When is it supposed to make landfall?
As the note in Maude’s tweet said “overnight or early Wednesday”
Perhaps the wrong butterfly flapped it’s wings?
Trust the science.
What is really sad is that the NOAA had solid evidence that the storm was rapidly intensifying a day and a half before this. The signs of it were showing in the satellite imagery and it was mentioned (they outright stated that what they saw was “usually a clear sign of rapid intensification”) in the forecast discussion issued on Monday afternoon. Where it was immediately dismissed as it went against all the models and the previous forecasts they’d made.
May God watch over all those people.
It seems like the Eastern Pacific has been very active weather wise this year.
Remember LA and their first Tropical Storm in how many years? That was a few months ago.
Hurricane Norma just traveled North from the tip of the Baja Peninsula. We are getting the tropical moisture from the remnants of that hurricane in the Midwestern states tomorrow.
Hopefully all these storms will help tame the drought in the South West?
I was looking at winter predictions just a few minutes ago and all mentioned el nino and all of the different sources I glanced at had different predictions or no prediction.
I bet it will be colder, icier and snowier than spring, summer and fall and people will curse & complain about Climate Change because they’re stupid & ignorant.
Climate Change! And it’s striking Mexico where all the brown people live, yet more proof of how racist it all is.
And it’s unprecidented. And it’s inevitable. And it requires the destruction of freedom to “fight against it”. Didn’t you just say it’s inevitable?. “Shut up”, he explained.
Obviously my white supremist ass hasn’t paid enough carbon taxes to The Spawn.
Global boiling I presume.
Without satellites and aircraft a lot more people would have died because at least modern technology (of the last 100 years) meant that they knew it was coming. “All models are wrong, but some are useful.” applies here. When someone tells me to “trust the science” it’s the observable phenonmena that is measurable because of science that I choose to trust, not the extrapolations and guesses of what comes next.
Cruised past Acapulco a week ago. Glancing past other storms, coastal Venezuela was a fireworks show last night.
Here’s to ARUBA!
It’s quite a challenge to sift through the endless information on the internet but this made an impression on me. Supposedly, the Tonga volcanic explosion in August 2022 increased global atmospheric moisture 5%. This will probably stabilize back to normal over time, but it would explain or be a big factor in a lot of the excessive rainfall and storm events we’ve seen this year.
And the only reason we’re supposed to panic about CO2 is supposed amplification due to a slight increase in temps caused by CO2 resulting in more evaporation and therefore more moisture in the air, with water being a more powerful greenhouse gas. But when a volcano directly spews moisture into the air it’s different, and CO2 is still the only reason global temps supposedly spiked in September, because science or something.
It’s ejected higher than water vapour usually goes. Chance for some higher clouds/ice crystals and minor albedo change, it remains to be seen whether that will raise or lower temperatures.
How dumb are weather scientists?
Any person on the street can tell you Otis will trend up like an escalator.
