More Pavilions At Folkfest

I’m old enough to remember when a mention of Muslims cheering 9/11 could get a person cancelled.

We’ve witnessed in recent days these tensions and limits inherent to Canadian pluralism. While most of us mourned and lamented the inhumanity of Hamas’s terrorist attacks on Israel, a small minority among us have defended and even celebrated them. These individuals and organizations have relied on Canada’s promise of freedom to countenance and glorify the indiscriminate violence of a group designated as a terrorist organization by our own government.

There have been pro-Palestinian demonstrations across the country that have effectively affirmed Hamas’s terrorism. The videos from these pro-Hamas rallies in cities such as Mississauga and Montreal have been shocking. It must be said that rallies in support of a terrorist organization that has carried out a systematic campaign of killing women and children are incompatible with Canadian values.

  1. I just saw Douglas Murray on British TV and he said open support of a terrorist organization is against the law in Britain. Does anybody know if that is the case in Canada?

    1. Section 319 (2) of Canada’s criminal code, although not specifically dealing with terrorist organizations, appears to be applicable to what happened in the pro-Hamas rallies in Canada:

      “Wilful promotion of hatred

      (2) Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of

      (a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or

      (b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.”

      https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-46/section-319.html

      1. But for a prosecution to take place under this section, a politician (an “Attorney General”) must initiate the process:
        “Consent
319 (6) No proceeding for an offence under subsection (2) or (2.1) shall be instituted without the consent of the Attorney General.”

What are the chances a Canadian politician would ever initiate a hate crime proceeding against any of the pro-Hamas marchers? I would say none.

        1. Are you suggesting that our Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Liberal MP Arif Virani, wouldn’t lay charges against a fellow Muslim?

          1. Yes, I would suggest that. The interesting part is why the Jewish community overwhelming supports Liberals anyway. Money and power trump little things like murder, I guess.

        2. So under the law related to section 319 (2) Juthtin Turdhole the Tyrant could’ve and should’ve been charged with willfully promoting hatred against those that chose not to partake in his forced medical experimentation… the “unvaxxed”. Good thing for Turdhole that the Government and the countrys institutions are completely and hopelessly corrupt. The Turd, like his collegues are above any law.
Sorry, off topic, but just had to say.

        3. Yup. Zero chance – whether a federal or provincial AG. Liberal, Conservative, or NDP.

      2. Is there anything more “hateful” than decapitating babies and shooting little girls in the head?

Well … no … abortion doesn’t count … because that’s a woman’s “choice”. Now that I think of it … the precepts of moral relevancy also would define decapitated babies as a “choice”. It may be a “different” … “choice” than you would make … but Canada DEMANDS “tolerance” of divergent beliefs.

This is what “tolerance” divorced from Morality gets you … cheering decapitated babies.

    2. We have our own less fenced in Gaza strip to the east of the Calgary airport. When will the IDF start dropping a few here?

  2. Most seems right in the article until you get to ‘Trudeau’s assertion that “diversity is our strength.” I think it’s broadly true.’

  3. “are incompatible with Canadian values.”
This brings up the question, what exactly are Canadian values in the post national state that Canada has become under the Liberals. Another question is what exactly constitues ‘decolonization’? How can diversity be our strength when its very meaning is to diversify/divide us? Inquiring minds want to know.

      1. E-X-A-C-T-L-Y….and although I’m disgusted by the pro-Hamas rallies I’m certainly not – repeat NOT – “shocked” by them, indeed, I expected them and expect many more. Anyone who expects or thinks or otherwise has simply not been paying attention.

Mark Steyn once asked the question: “what percentage of a country needs to be Muslim before that country starting taking on the visible characteristics of a majority-Muslim, nation?” I guess we are all going to find out…

        1. The last figure I heard for such a transition was 5%. I have no scientific basis for that statement and I offer it with that caveat.

        2. 10% seems to be widely considered the tipping point.
But 5% dog shit in ice cream would ruin the ice cream for sure.

  4. I think there are far more who support hamas who don’t go out and celebrate.

Diversity is our strength is a profoundly stupid thought, saying and policy.

    1. “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand”. (Mark 3:24, 25)

So what should our policy be with respect to multiculturalism because it is a lie?

      1. Read the Old Testament for the answer respecting multiculturalism. You may or may not like it.

  5. Like the cabbies at Edmonton International Airport cheering on 9/11?
They were showing footage on the local news channels.
    Memory holed..

    1. Yes it was. Except we still remember, shock surprise.

We were told 9/11 was a one-off, an anomaly, and that the peace process would win out.

But here we are, watching cabbies at the airport celebrate again. And this time they’re celebrating something far more barbaric than an airplane crashed into a building. This is -personal-.

  6. “are incompatible with Canadian values.”

But we will keep importing boatloads of people with incompatible values and give them political power in the name of diversity.

  7. Where was this argument when the government decreed a man is a woman if he thinks he is? Logic, morality?
That ship’s sailed. The Palestinian chicken is not worth it.

  8. This highlights major problems with Trudeau’s immigration plan. Anyone who travels to, has lived in, or observes events in, those countries with significantly different cultures (those that are very pluralist), than Western values knows that there are many places where they grind up against the Western values that underpin Canadian “pluralist” culture.
And if they think about it, they come to understand that they are bred into people living in those lands and if those people come to Canada they will bring those values to Canada and be in conflict with “settler” Canadians and in conflict with other immigrants – often from the same region.
They bring in their conflicts (see Indian Sikhs seeking free Khalistan and Somali’s fighting each other in Alberta), and they undermine the continuation of Western values that made us strong.
This is why unmonitored immigration is WRONG.

  9. So, what are you gonna do about it now? It’s too late. You’ve not only let a cancer in but you’ve ENCOURAGED it every step of the way.

  10. I used to outline a cartoonish portrayal of the MENA mentality by saying to Western people “Supposing you’re given a brief lecture on gravity……you tell them “I’m holding a heavy rock and I let go of it, what happens?”…..unanimous response “It flies up into the air!””

  11. A person says “I have these values.”
A second person says “My values oppose your values.”
The first person says “That’s OK with me, as a Canadian, I believe we should celebrate our differences.”

So, in what sense does the first person actually have any values?”
Is being insipid the new Canadian archetype?

  12. It’s not only Canada. Everyone 40 and younger in the West has been conditioned to react in a certain way: pro Marxist, eco, woke, pro Palestine, anti-everything-even-slight-conservative. For example even now BBC News is full of “omg poor Gaza”.

  13. The Palestinian youth movement scares me, it’s the self same hate and loathing propaganda against Jews that Hitler used to justify his barbarity? The youth movement should be illegal, children born in Canada should not be indoctrinated to hate Jews under the guise of Palestinian freedom.

  14. So , provoking Putin to invade the Ukraine, had another purpose, to arm the HamASS terrorists. The attack on Israel has Mossad and CIA finger prints all over it.
BTW; So did Abe’s assassination have Mossad and/or CIA finger prints on it.

      1. “Putin didn’t need to invade Ukraine.”

Zelensky didn’t need to outlaw other political parties and shut down churches and news outlets.

        1. Putin, who himself has outlawed political parties and shut down news organizations, did not need to invade Ukraine.

          1. ” Putin, who himself has outlawed political parties and shut down news organizations, ”

There are 25 other political parties in Russia, plus 21,000 churches and roughly 1000 monasteries.

Also 20 different news organizations with 83,000 media outlets between them.

“did not need to invade Ukraine.”

Nor did the US need to assist in the overthrow of the democratically-elected government of Ukraine in 2014. Ukraine also didn’t need to start massacring ethnic Russians in Donbas.

            Think before you post.

  15. Interesting times, as a Christian, the government pressures you to compromise your values all the time, if fact they will arrest Pastors and pressure companies to fire you if they don’t fall inline, Trudeau OK the burning of churches and encourages the natives to hate the Catholics. If you are pro-life, you will be openly mocked.
Christians are passive and following Jesus’s example, (up to a point) Muslims on the other hand, are extremely violent, the government fears them. Just try to influence their values, or mock their religion, you will end up beheaded.
Politicians are scared of them, especially Trudeau. The mistake politicians and Muslims are making thou, Christians are still only human, that said, they have a breaking point, and the Jews have reached that point, now Hamas will see what that looks like.

  16. Yet, SDA, on a daily basis, tolerates a bloodthirsty Nazi sympathizer that wishes death upon an entire nation.

    Hypocritical much?

    1. So you would advocate for censorship? Some commentators here, and I don’t need to mention any names (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) only comment here to seek attention that they cannot realise or raise on other forums. They cannot enter serious discussions because they are not mentally adept at discussion in as much as they only know the left talking points and when presented with facts they descend into ad hominem attacks. For the most part the rest of us don’t bother with them, it is a waste of time to argue with them, as eventually they self censor themselves since they don’t get the attention they are so desperately seeking.

      1. “So you would advocate for censorship? Some commentators here, and I don’t need to mention any names (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) only comment here to seek attention that they cannot realise or raise on other forums. ”

I know what you mean. As despicable as our resident Nazi apologist might be, at least he posts a lot of evidence of his mental illness. It’s good to have that kind of thing on record for future reference.

  17. Can we please leave the expression “terrorism” behind. Terrorism is a ‘tactic’ not an action or noun. The actions and mission of Hamas are an extension of the Holocaust as is the ‘raison d’etre’ for the state of Israel. Therefore those defending / supporting Hamas and by extension, their Palestinian “hosts”, are either holocaust deniers, equivocators, or promoters. Palestinians will pay the higher price from Israel’s retribution for hosting (willingly or not) Hamas and that is part of the Islamic theocracies’ calculus behind the attack so that their (useful idiots of the) west will continue supporting “Palestine”. This attack was unlikely without the support of the US (“abandoned” weapons from Afghanistan, funding directly and through Iran). It’s almost as if the Democrats had an anti-Israel agenda.

  18. I’ll play devils advocate here and give some reasons we should not criminalize offensive speech or protests that do not cross over into incitement or violence

    – no matter how rancid the ideology is, it’s better out in the open than festering underground. And these people and their ideology are as rancid as it gets.

    – it’s important for security forces to know who these people are so they, their family and their contacts can be flagged and tracked.

    – you can guarantee that any laws used to censor and outlaw even the most atrocious protests like these will be used by progressives against conservatives and libertarians for any protests no matter how peaceful.

    – we should reevaluate our immigration policy based on what we see these hateful nations/groups/ideology/religions supporting and celebrating

IMO, It’s better to denounce their barbarity and twisted ideology and then counter protest.

    1. The point you make is well founded and you can be sure that the ‘joy riders’ in the vehicles identified in the videos have been flagged and are now under surveilence. However these ‘joy riders’ are not the smartest in the bunch and the people behind organizing the protests are well removed from any known and identified protestors. It may be time in Canada to cast a jaudiced eye at the political process that somehow allows such a large number of politicians and officials to be either elected or appointed from small minority groups into power. After all we have a very visible example historically here in Canada of a minority dictating their demands and the majority voluntarily subjecting to those demands, n’est-ce pas?

      1. Minority rights are important but it’s crossed the line into the minority being allowed to trample on everyone else’s rights.

    2. We would never be allowed to counter protest against the Pro-Palestinian movement. Sure they let the peasants show a little support for Israel, but if we went all out frothing hatred against the pro-Hamas movement we’d be the one’s arrested.

      1. Rose, Agreed.

Does anyone know if there are bumper stickers with the Israeli Flag available?

      2. At this point, the Trudeau Liberal-NDP government does not have the moral authority to condemn anyone anymore. A combination of stupidity, incompetence and malice has rendered them impotent. Every move they make shows their hypocrisy.

  19. LC Bennett 100%.

Tho I must confess to feeling — for a micro second or two — a desire to at least ban protests favouring designated terrorist groups. But as a free speech absolutist I quickly calm down. I have alway condemned the illegalization of Holocaust denial, as despicable as it is. Incitement’s a different matter, tho it too can be tricky. Ugly group chants usually don’t rise to the incitement threshold.

      1. OR “Hamas Hamas Jews to the Gas”.
Disgusting of course but as an ugly group chant not quite above the threshold.
John stands on a stage with a mic and shouts, ok folks go out and beat up any Jew you see.
That’s clearly, indisputably an indictable incitement.

    1. My first reaction was disgust and revulsion that anyone would celebrate the barbaric, inhuman acts committed against Israelis. In fact, I still feel this disgust and revulsion as I’m typing this post. These people have no soul and are far outside the bounds of human decency.

      1. “These people have no soul and are far outside the bounds of human decency.” – and that is why their bile must be exposed to full sunlight of free speech to be seen, mulled over, put down, humiliated, etc.

  20. “Unlike some conservatives, I’ve tended to disagree with the instinct to mock Prime Minister Trudeau’s assertion that “diversity is our strength.” I think it’s broadly true. But if our pluralism isn’t principled, if it doesn’t involve some limits, then diversity will cease to be our strength and may eventually become the source of our undoing.”

Trudeau deserves more mockery than he got for his useless assertion, and his version of pluralism doesn’t have any principles. We should not be importing cultures that do not believe in pluralism, as their culture is incompatible with the one here. We also should not be importing those that are unwilling to leave their ancient or modern hatreds behind.

  21. Diversity in some forms can be a good thing. Different races, short and tall people, men and women, oldsters and kids . . .

But there is no societal value in diversity of morals. A society must share those morals across all groups in order to survive. Don’t kill, don’t rape, don’t steal – to the extent that people do not hold to these principles, society can’t function. It will fracture and become many different societies. And that doesn’t work.

    1. Yes, there is a word for those who practice a diversity of foundational moral principles. Criminals.

  22. ” … rallies in support of a terrorist organization that has carried out a systematic campaign of killing women and children are incompatible with Canadian values.”

Was there a masked Liberal stooge carrying a Confederate flag? There wasn’t?

Then it’s not incompatible with Canadian values.

  23. “Canadian values”?
After watching our elected idiots applaud a real NAZI,after they showed their inner NAZI during their Fear Frenzy over a common cold..
After declaring all disobedient citizens as “Unpersons”..
Gee it turns out Canadians have no individual rights nor freedoms..
Even the Supreme Court Agrees,I have no rights or freedoms when my government is in a State of Panic..
    There normal and permanent condition.

So what are these “Values” Can Ahh Duh claims to hold?
The values of a State of Thuggery?

This is why the West must leave Confederation, our Eastern Comrades and their city dwelling spawn have no values in common with a proud and productive people.

    Parasites provide no benefit.

And how, pray tell, does one negotiate with a parasite?
Can anyone provide an example of such, ever benefitting the host?

Canada’s “Values” are consistent with the honesty of our political class.
Both are admired by their absence.
