Victor Davis Hanson on mainstreaming corruption. Of course Canada is no better.

The difference being that Canadian Corruption, is so penny ante, and usually part of official government policy (see dairy cartels and “national champions”)
Canada started down this route in 1963 with the election of LBP. The US is just trying to catch up.
I’d argue there is a lot of local corruption in the US (see Boss Tweed, or the Chicago Machine) but it wasn’t at the federal level for the most part.
“Canada started down this route in 1963 with the election of LBP.”
LBP led a minority Liberal government, beholden to a TD/NDP whip hand.
That dependence, the Kennedy assassination that same year, and introduction of ‘the Pill’ in 1960, led to Liberal’s selection of hip middle-aged batchelor’ PET in 1968, to counter rise of support for TD/NDP flowing from adoption of universal Medicare.
VDH: “Are the media and left claiming that to save the rule of law from Trump, they must first destroy it?”
Yes and yes, most assuredly. VDH describes a dystopic despotic desperation that describes declining 3rd world rogue regimes.
This one happens to be the United States, ruled by DeMarxists party that more resembles the last gasps of old man USSR.
We have a PM who shredded our Constitution; having been shown the trucker, he had to find the crime, but he failed.
When will our law enforcement gurus decide Poilievre and his Conservatives are, as the GA DA said about Trump, subversives?
Given the swamp, north and south, will serially lie, abscond with our money, send the police after our “Trump supporting” grandmothers, how long before the lunatics in the south, the ones who freak out at every black shot (provided it’s not by another black), who try to hoodwink the population into believing a certain number of indictments equals guilt, actually try to assassinate Trump? How long before the offended class shut us up, including our pass the buck anger projecting PM?
Can we expect rogue Crown Prosecutors in Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton to find out Poilievre didn’t claim his newspaper delivery money and charge him with tax evasion? How high in the polls does he have to go before they do that?
Probably about the same as the Trump “indictments” needed to declare him guilty, so unfit to win, I mean, run for POTUS.
VDH describes at length a rotten rogue system that exists for its own power and wealth, and cares not for rule of law at all.
At this point unless voters (now told to shut up) rise up en masse to remove these mendactic miscreants, we shall decline.
VDH: “Are the media and left claiming that to save the rule of law from Trump, they must first destroy it?”
No, they deny any of it is happening.
“No one is above the rule of law” they will recite like featherless, bitey parrots.
Show any of your family and friends that suffer TDS any of the overwhelming proofs of any of the issues VDH outlines and they will deny everything, angrily. Just like the 1940s Germans didn’t see starving skeletons pleading for water in boxcars right before their eyes or smell the ovens.
The media and the left have made themselves “knowingly retarded” and are angry you point it out.
Your friends and family on the left will NEVER look at you the same way again, if at all.
Kate: Could you please repost, or link to, the story of the Winnipeg baker that was bankrupted and ostracized for pointing out “Nazi’s are bad” just before the second world war?
We’ve entered the phase of societal breakdown that our friends and family on the left that suffer TDS would be using the keys we’ve left them with for emergencies and cherry picking our personal versions of Faberge Eggs, our Hay River guns, all “for safe keeping”, of course, if we were not able to get home for a couple of weeks or went missing.
Sheila Copps is back to opine on the oops, we did it, 30 year failure of a housing strategy, with truly Orwellian stuff.
If we bunk together, we’ll have a better life, living in a quarter of our present square footage, just like the Chinese, wouldn’t that be better utilization of our resources. Or just maybe the cosa nostra that is government stepping on the product, from 25% to 33% of the cost of the build, is the problem, not its cure, proved by this collectivism how far you have come:
“The relative house size in Canada is more than double that of the United Kingdom. In the UK, people inhabit an average 818-square-foot home, compared with 1,948 square feet in Canada. China’s average urban house size is 646 square feet.”
At the same time, fewer people are living in increasingly bigger homes. So, when we are looking at housing policy, we have to consider that size matters. Simply cutting back on immigration is not the solution to this problem.”
If we really want to tackle the housing problem, we need to look at a national housing strategy that does not encourage people to live in overhoused, underutilized structures.”
Most older Canadians remember the time when a 500-square-foot house provided habitation for eight to 10 members of a family. Now we have mega homes that often house only two or three people.”
Perhaps we could all eat in a cafeteria, with our utensils seized; then we could be more like China, where things get done.
Have we sunk low even by VHD’s standards, beyond our own redemption, that serious people suggest such solutions?
Why aren’t the Chinese concerned about climate change? They already have a communist government.
They’re far too busy importing coal to fire their ever increasing electrical generating stations and building wind turbines and solar panels to sell to us suckers in the West, while buying oil from Russia to help fund the eventual Taiwan invasion.
As shoe banger Khrushchev said, we’ll do it to ourselves with socialism. No need to lift a finger. Just help it along a little.
Which is just how DeMarxists like it – no work, just parties, position papers, virtue signaling a diversional finger pointing.
Lenin called them useful idiots who would deliver themselves into communism through socialism.
Today’s version is the comatose while woke IYI (intellectual yet idiot), now in common cause with wedge issue hypocrites.
No skin in the game losers. Government is poor at picking government winners, but losers are good picking government.
Unfortunately that means civil society loses, exemplified by the recent Grit media tax grab attempt, everybody worse off.
Of course if we protest we are a “fringe minority with unacceptable views” of removing this government, now at 81%.
Reality check Canada and USA. The fascists aren’t just going to just give back power; they’ll “stop it” by whatever means.
Act now my fellow citizens, speak up or forever hold your peace – literally; your liberty, prosperity and safety are at stake.
