    2. It should be even harder than taking Ukraine across a land border. A seaborne landing without surprise is a disaster in the making. Dieppe anyone? Chinese casualties would be off the chart. Quite a gamble. I think Xi likes his job.

Aside from letting BLM & Antifa fire back up with a little Manchurian project push, they have been catching military age mainland Chinese men in droves this year at the US border, the “got aways” who knows how many?

        Otherwise China has had the opportunity to utilize an open border policy for the last 20 years and found plenty of kitchen/ laundry jobs whatever from the sanctuary SanFan Chinatown to Dim Sum Wichita Kansas and beyond.

  3. On a related note the US ran a series of computer simulated wargames and discovered that no matter how they rigged it they would lose to China should they try to defend Taiwan.

      1. The time to have done that was when Gen Douglas MacArthur was calling for it during the Korean War. Unfortunately, Truman’s “war doctrine” was written by the staffers (who we later found out) were pro-Soviet Union/pro-communist–today we call them the “deep state”.

      2. US does not need to defend Taiwan to strangle Chicoms, Chicoms cannot exists without sea trade and they can be blockaded the way Japan was in WWII.
      3. Chicoms have a very narrow window of opportunity the consequences of deadbeat demographics combined with sex selective abortions are cutting their time frame to act very quickly.
      4. Xi will destroy them, the return to central planning and communism will lead to a disaster as it always does.
      5. They have just learned that majority of their military gear which is derived from russian export models are export models of crap.
      6. Chicoms haven’t fought a war in many decades, their armed forces have exactly zero combat experience. That is a wildcard but it is safe to assume that pound for pound they are below average.

      The US still hasn’t fully internalized that they have been losing since 1945; that they couldn’t beat a rag tag group of rag heads over 20 years. Taiwan is none of their business. If it’s taken, too bad, so sad.

      The US has no strategic interest in Taiwan. Moreover, the whole idea of “strategic interests” needs to be jettisoned.

    But, the Carl Vinson and Abraham Lincoln naval battle groups are also there, with more than enough firepower to crush any invasion.
    Which hopefully deters the Chinese and gets them over their giddiness at dealing with the weakest President in recent history, or ever.

    2. Are today’s Carrier Groups like WW2’s initial and over confident reliance on Battleships (the previous war’s weapon of choice)? They’ve only recently been used effectively against military inferior shitholes without naval and air / missile power. Taiwan isn’t a blue water theatre where the US Navy would likely excel. Land-based missile platforms are too close. I suspect that Subs would be more critical, survivable, and effective. I have no pretense of expertise, just long acquired skepticism.

        You’re not wrong about that: subs would be the deciding factor, and the American boats and crews (not to mention technology) are far superior to the Chinese.

            Yes, the Chinese fleet has ASW capability…but they are still no match for the USN. Their technology is, and has always been, 10 years (or more) behind what the Americans have. The only ASW capability they have that would even concern the Americans is helicopter-borne units, and they would have none of those left after the first hour of fighting.

            The reason that the Chinese didn’t invade and reclaim their ‘rogue province’ decades ago is simple: it would be far too costly for them to do so. They would suffer very heavy military losses, and they know it.

  11. Rogue states and ruthless leaders will always take advantage of a weakened west. Biden is the weakest we’ve ever seen, so it’s not much of a surprise that China is showing it’s fangs to Taiwan and the west. Even the islamic terrorists are getting uppity with Gaza, Lebanon and now Syria throwing rockets into Israel. There has also been mention of the houthi’s in Yemen getting in on the attack Israel act now that their war with the Saudi’s has come to an end. I would bet every rocket fired into Israel has Iran’s fingerprints on em. Yet my money will be on Israel. However, China is fully prepped and has the manpower to overrun Taiwan, and the US and the rest of here in the west have been defanged. If China goes ahead, Biden is weak and I bet he would withdraw his ships if push comes to shove!

    Different factions in different parts of the world fighting each other, may seem like only regional wars, but if you step back far enough, you will see it as a whole planet on fire, or for all intents and purposes, WW3! Eventually these factions will team up and it will be them or us, we just don’t yet know all the players will be on each team!

    Sorry, I’m not holding out much hope for us in this. I’m also not religious, but this sure looks like the end times.

I would add that the cost (blood and treasure) of the belief in them being “the boss” has assisted significantly in their imminent bankruptcy and all for the benefit of the military industrial complex without any actual “victories” to show for it in almost 80 years. Electing “captured” sociopaths will do that. The world and the US treasury is now more problematic as a result.

  14. The only good news in this story is that we Canadians may get some good quality immigrants, given that Trudeau is committed to having our country invaded, who we can not vote out, thanks to Mr Singh,

    Thailand is a democracy and most would be excellent citizens.

    Obviously, I disagree with high immigration, but it is best to chose people with similar values, and with good skills.

    Also, the baby boom generation is becoming retired, and most of us are solvent. Former immigrants brought enough children to service us. Canadians with useless jobs, such as diversity coordinator should find another job that actually contributes to the GDP.

  18. If Trump is returned to office, he should consider offering Taiwan statehood, then if they accept, move in a massive military presence. That will set off China into an impotent rage, which won’t be the first time.

    Since Genghis Khan (who was Mongolian more so) has China actually invaded another country (with success) ?

    Easy peasy.
    Assuming a whole bunch of soldiers,or persons playing the part there of..
    Send them across the strait.
    Unarmed under flag of truce,with instructions to surrender,to the first official they encounter.
    First pretend they are refugees,fleeing China.
    Then admit they are soldiers,but dare the Taiwanese to shoot unarmed men..
    Then,after the entire Taiwanese military,police and border guards are all totally overwhelmed…
    Invade..
    Or threaten to.
    With an even longer game plan,just send waves of refugees..
    All military age single men..

    In other words,copy the Jihadiz..

Before Covid, almost half a million Taiwanese citizens worked in China. No one from West Berlin ever worked in East Berlin. Sixty years ago Taiwan was threatening to “retake the mainland”:

    I’m very impressed by the Taiwanese of today and wish them the best of luck, but why is this a problem for President Joe Diedbrain to solve by starting World War III after he did so well in Ukraine?
