  1. A much less costly solution to the alleged “problem” of French “fragility” outside Kaybek > Set up a nationwide toll-free phone number system answered only by surly, overpaid, grumpy Kaybek-based ‘associates’ who answer all your calls and questions only in French. Call it 1-800-FrogsRus.

  2. I guess importing millions of non french speaking welfare immigrants is not helping to expand the quebec french base.

    1. Came here to say this. Eventually the French and the First Nations people will be diluted out of federal concern.

    1. even if France who notoriously hate English. people speak English even if grudgingly , a change Ive noticed in the past 20 years.

90% of all technical books in the world are published in English. something that will even hinder the Chinese as they take over all economies

      1. Indian (real Indians from the country, India), and Chinese people that I know are all eager and willing to learn English as it gets them ahead in life. Quebec French people want to sit on their hands and be catered to.

French (real French from the country France) people look down on Quebec French as similar to Hillbilly English.

        1. I wouldn’t say that. I’d say that educated middle-class Quebeckers, and especially Montrealers, tend to despise the speech of the lower classes – which is indeed damned exotic. European French visitors tend to be familiar with the range of idioms and dialects in Europe, and everything they hear in Quebec – except maybe the most extreme Montreal slum idioms – fits well within that. They often find it fascinating, they sometimes have trouble with it, but they never display the contempt and disdain that the snooty locals do.

I once had some friends in Quebec City tell me about the Frenchman who had commented on their “facon paysanne de parler”. They’d been furious with him, because they thought he was calling them “peasants”. It seemed to me that he was calling it “rooted” or “grounded”, that is, distinctive to the country. But they had a good head of indignation up by then and there was no point arguing.

  3. Its not about promoting French outside of K-bec.
Its about giving money to French speakers – mostly from K-bec – and to contractors & consultants.
The falling number of speakers of the language means even more money.
As Martha Stewart would say, “And that’s a good thing”.

  4. I’d be more sympathetic if they actually spoke French. The lowbrow quebecois patois they utter is almost indecipherable to the ears of many a Parisian.

  5. Why wasn’t French allowed to die a natural death?

It doesn’t start with Trudeau but it should end with him.

    1. @ Osumashi:
Not in this country. French is mollycoddled so it will be protected. Afterall, I heard that a native language is on the school curriculum in Saskatchewan, and I also heard that some of the woke wackos want other provinces to follow suit. Yup, just a so useful skill to learn, mic mac tally wack.

      1. Imagine a multicultural population that can speak/understand English and know what the b@$#@rds on Parliament Hill are saying.

Like, there is no money, for example.

  6. Meanwhile Spanish and Mandarin are alive and well and growing in western Canada without a penny of federal handout — funny that.

    1. Well, there are millions more natural Mandarin speakers than any other language on the planet. Lots of people speak english and many of them speak Mandarin, pay attention.
