When I was in South Africa in 2015 I was shown many examples of illegal (and dangerous) electricity hookups from street lamps in Soweto. The power would routinely go off for an hour or so every second day, depending on whether you were staying in a pro-ANC neighborhood or not. Now it’s routinely off for hours at a time.

A white guy I met told me that he lived in a predominately black neighborhood so that he, like all his neighbors, could get away with not paying their property taxes.

I wondered how long all of this could go on before Atlas Shrugged. Now I have my answer.
