Blog Notes

As readers have likely surmised from my infrequent postings, I’ve been on an extended road trip over the past two weeks. We (including my friend and wildlife spotter, Karen) returned last night from our annual terrier extravaganza in Pennsylvania, covering over 2,000 miles in about 53 hours in our 2008 E350 Econoline war horse.  Say what you like about Fords, but it will be a sad day when we put that beast out to pasture.

My own dogs did very well, with several major wins over their two weekends shown, while the “extended family” of breeders who have incorporated our Minuteman dogs into their own lines did extremely well — including a clean sweep of the top awards at the American National at Montgomery County on Sunday.

Ch.Kaos Black Is King, Best of Breed at the AMSC National was bred in Ontario and owned by Dr.Lisa Sarvas (originally from Biggar, SK). “Nyo” is a grandson of our top sire AmCanCh.Minuteman Up With The Birds.

Below:  AmCanCh.Minuteman Lex Luthor, making his first appearance at the “big show” with a win over the top winning males in the USA on the second day of competition (handled by yours truly).

I have one more long weekend trip with family coming up later this month and then my travel season is over, probably until early spring. My deepest thanks to the guest bloggers who kept the place running in my absence. I did check in from time to time, your content was just exceptional as always!

I should be rested  and back to regularly scheduled blogging by tomorrow. Until then, I have a lot of gear still waiting to be unloaded.

  1. Very nice, congrats! Beautiful pups!

Just curious…and tell me if I’m being too nosey, but do these wins pay for the trips, or do you just get ribbons? (In addition to the experience, an excuse to travel, good times, and higher prices on the dogs)

    1. Just ribbons, titles, rankings and the occasional gas card. It’s purely a money burning hobby, even at the breeding side.

      1. Perhaps you should breed pitbulls … apparently there’s quite a marketplace for them … well in “certain” communities anyway

        1. Kenji

          Daughter has a female pit.
Was an aggressive dog to those she did not know…and to other dogs as well.

She is, after 3 weeks at a traing centre a completely different dog. Playfull, hanging out with all kinds of breeds and seemingly truly enjoying said training..amazing really.

          1. I hope she doesn’t have children.

Let’s not forget … dog breeds are GMO animals … bred for very specific characteristics. Baked into their DNA.

It’s kinda like Hunter growing up to be a sleezeball … because … well … because the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  2. I don’t know how much you know about other breeds but I’d be very curious if you know anything of Shiba Inus and how they would contrast with your current favorite breed. I’m just curious which one is more “hammer headed”. Asking for a friend.

  3. Kate, you’re a true Canadian treasure, and inspiration to your many admirers.

Summertime, and the showin’ is easy,
Leashes straining’, and the tails are high,
Oh, your mom’s a bitch, and your paws are good-looking’,
So hush, little puppy, judges are comin’ by

    1. Maikeru, well done.

I’m a hobby songwriter going back to the early 70s.
I tried but failed to post a Dropbox link to my song Doggies. .

  4. “…making his first appearance at the “big show” with a win over the top winning males in the USA on the second day of competition”
Nice to see the gender insanity hasn’t leeched its way into the canine crowd. I’ll give MAID a hard look if I ever see a Best in NonBinary Who Don’t Walk Good

    Congrats.

  5. I have a love-hate relationship with Fords.
I’ve had some I loved (Mustang, F-100 pickup) and some I absolutely hated (Pinto, Taurus).

    1. 1989 Ford Taurus SHO, for both love and hate.

Love the speed, hated replacing front struts repeatedly.

        1. Correct! Such a fun car, total sleeper.

Explaining to people a Ford had a Yamaha engine was always a challenge.

          1. Another noteable 80s Ford…the Merkur XR4Ti. My buddy had the ’86 version. Amazing handling.

          2. I remember those, a rebadged Euro Sierra Cosworth. Spectacular car. Explaining to people it is a Merkur sold via Mercury dealerships but not a Mercury. Ouch. There was also a NA version of the Ford Scorpio sold as Merkur. All cars much more desirable than contemporary Mustangs IMHO.

  6. Nice to see you making a journey that would be impossible in an electric vehicle, Kate.
    Fossil fuels rock.

  7. Congrats!
I don’t know that I could handle that hobby. The travel would be deadly!
So, we’ll just stick with our dogs at home, hanging out.

  8. Congrats again Kate!
    And welcome back!
We have been following your blogging and dogging for many years…never gets tired.

  9. Well done Kate, from a cat guy!
Love my rescue cats as much as they love me. They are all mutts if there is such a thing as a mutt-cat but they absorb the attention gleefully.
