“Today the Government of Canada announced the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions, as well as testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada, effective October 1, 2022.”
Deciding to allow the special orders that for months have upheld Canada’s special pandemic authorizations under the Quarantine Act to expire means:
– Foreign nationals won’t need to be vaccinated to enter the country;
– Incoming travellers to major airports won’t be subject to random mandatory COVID-19 tests;
– Unvaccinated Canadians will no longer have to isolate when they return;
– Travellers will not have to monitor or report if they develop COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival in Canada;
– Filling out the ArriveCan app prior to landing will become optional; and
– It’ll no longer be mandatory to wear a face mask on planes or trains.
Backed by science.

Why do we have to wait until October 1st?
does the government not know of the word “immediately” other than in their arbitrary and capricious orders in council related to legal firearms?
JD, because “immediately” means that the Canadian public dont need any meetings, consultations, discussions, hearings, strategies and reviews by the committees, sub-committees, junior deputies, etc.
Which is another way of saying those public servants add nothing to the economy. We dont need em.
And that is completely unacceptable to public servants everywhere.
Before they – of course! – got suspended, someone referred to as “bu/ac” made THIS point on Twit(ter) which I’ve oft-repeated and will now do so again:
“I don’t see the point of these politicians setting dates to drop mandates, rather than immediately dropping them. Do they need a few days to meet with the virus to negotiate its dismissal? It’s more than likely to make it appear they have some control left.”
For many of us, these regulations effectively ended ages ago because we never obeyed them anyway and/or found creative ways – as they did in Communist Eastern Europe (the analogy is as apt as it is tragic) – to skirt the regulations – e.g., one of the moms from my kids school recently completed half a dozen or so in-Canada flights with no mask – she just held a water bottle and a bag of chips and said she was eating and nobody bothered her on any of the flights.
JD:
It’s the old gubmint “comical precision” concept at play.
The deliberation head fake.
Running the models around the clock they have determined that it will be safe only as at October 1.
Yet they are still pushing another useless dangerous shot for a disease that is the common cold. No disconnect there eh?
The polling “science” seems to show that a firm 33% of the population need to be tarred and feathered.
Freedom! Honk Honk!
Let’s hope Peckford wins big in his court challenge.
Poilievre is an economic conservative. Free market type.
And that is awesome. I really hope the cpc takes notice.
But how will the cpc respond? I foresee 2-3 years of actual economic reform … and then god knows what the Charest’s of the ccp will impose.
“Poilievre is an economic conservative. Free market type.”
Except when it comes to Quebec dairy products…then he’s just another bought-and-paid-for politician.
How effing gracious of them
Approaching normality. What’s left? Hospitals and old folks homes?
Any medical establishment, including the dentist, which makes oh so much sense. Walk to the chair masked up, sit down and take the mask off. Think that may be provincial tho.
No mask at my dentists.
Ok I am in Manitoba. Masks at all medical establishments. My dentist is actually paranoid about it. Full face mask, booties, and surgical scrubs for all staff except the receptionist and is still doing screening. The only place I know that does screening. But my husband went to a foot clinic and was scolded for not wearing a mask as they are required in all medical offices.
Thank the truckers for this one – without them O’Foole would still be the “leader” of the so call conservative party.
Indeed. May I finish that sentence for you?
…. and all his little sheep would still be cheering for him.
Very good point, now we can kick some ass !
Three thumbs up, Toad.
And thanks to the Millions who lined the highways, showing the o’sheep that there never was a “consensus.”
You (we, actually) played a role, too.
Full credit to Pierre, for sure, but let’s not forget Tamara Lich and the truckers for showing the early courage to get this process started.
Once again, thank you truckers.
(polite applause)
I will never forget how they vilified us and the names they called us … Many uttered death threats or hoped for us to die …. the hate was oozing from the mouths of all those suckers who lined up for the experimental concoction that is maiming and killing so many … and what of the future health of those suckers and their children who they had jabbed.
Systems such as health care is in collapse because frightened, vindictive fools fired all the much smarter unvaxxed and now they can’t run their business. Same for passport offices, education, travel ….
This is what happens when idiots are in charge of your country.
I will never forget what we were forced to put up with and all for a sham pandemic.
Just like the masks went away after the convoy. “Science”.
This isn’t over.
If the ultimate goal is digital identification, the Liberals must have all that they need, including a compliant population, to carry that out.
Ahem:
“Several cabinet ministers announced the change at a news conference Monday morning. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said the government had been following the science and now believes it is safe to relax these measures, starting October 1. …
Duclos said the government would maintain its ability to enforce the measures if needed. He strongly advised Canadians to get vaccinated and receive third or even fourth doses.”

Remind the public who is in charge.
This is no victory for anyone. The only reason this went on until now is the PM is a f***ing dick. Want to see a bigger one? Look at Biden.
Precisely.
This is Justin backing down temporarily, like when he ran away when the trucks showed up.
He will come back and be an even bigger b@$#@rd than before.
Wait for it.
And he will. Because he can. And wait for many Canadians to forgive him. And they will.
Change the proverb: like a Canadian goes back to his own vomit.
Hadn’t heard that but good one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_a_dog_returns_to_his_vomit,_so_a_fool_repeats_his_folly
Now, how many of the CPC MPs are going to grow spines and stand up for Canadians and for Canada?
And how many Liberal MPs are going to cross the floor, if any?
And would we want them?
Are there any even halfway sane Liberal MPs?
None in the Trudeau cabinet, obviously.
The way to lose this is to blame everything on Trudeau and watch them change leaders.
Trudeau isn’t the problem, the Liberal Party is the problem.
Convince the voters to dump the Liberals, not just to dump Trudeau.
I don’t think any of that will happen.
Now, how many of the CPC MPs are going to grow spines and stand up for Canadians and for Canada?
Dunno – and I won’t find out from my local township’s newspaper. They got $235K + $88K + more that I couldn’t discover how much. Publishers aren’t stupid.
Partially true. The real problem is the ignorance of the canuck voter who would elect a human failure like castreau and his totalitarian slobs, and their continued ignorance and indifference shown by continuing to support them.
Married with that is the “gimme dat!” welfare mentality that’s rampant in over half the country.
I’d be surprised if PP could get elected with a majority, and that’s what it’ll take to clean up the mess that the liberal hurricane Fiona has made of a once-great country.

If our morale had improved earlier, the beatings would have stopped sooner. We can all learn from this and do better.
Anyway, it was so sweet of JT to give us back our rights and freedoms. Truly a man among princes.
I don’t think he gave us back our rights and freedoms. He just lent them to us for the time being. Remember this is a suspension not a complete revocation.
So glad about masks. That was the dumbest thing of all.
At first I thought of the people of Nova Scotia and that it was unfortunate the virus couldn’t have abated a week sooner.
But then I realized Nova Scotians are glad they huddled in the dark and cold for an extra day because the ArriveCan app spared them the social impact of the predominately male construction crews from Maine.
But, but, but, we are now being offered a 4th shot for some damned variant of covid, or whatever, while all those coming here do not need to have had any vaccines, just come on in.
I for one am done with covid $hit.
Have we heard anything from the real “expert”, Dr Tam on this?
Tam: diversity hire disaster
Likely not because of the truckers (they hate them) or PP (they hate him). Likelybecause the Blue Jays made the playoffs and the elites want to plant their asses in seats at the games.
Oh and the NHL and NBA seasons are about to begin.
It certainly isn’t based on science.
Indeed.
There is always an ulterior motive.
We do know that MLB controls the world. Likely a condition MLB imposed on Canada to allow the Blue Jays to participate in regular season from Toronto … “If said Blue Jays make the playoffs, MLB hereby declares that Canada shall remove all hinderances for entry and exit from Canada before the playoffs begin.”
The ulterior motive is that the Trudeau Liberal government is trying to convince the Supreme Court that cases brought against the government challenging the constitutional legitimacy of covid policies are now moot because the policies have been suspended. The mootness hearing was last week and the Supreme Court judge has reserved judgement. The court challenge is scheduled to be heard at the end of October.
BINGO.
See Viva’s interview with Keith Wilson QC, in Peckford’s constitutional challenge. He destroyed the bureaucrat “doctors” behind the Feds lockdowns and mandates. The emperor has no clothes, and was exposed as a fraud. Hence, the mandates are dropped, and then will be argued as MOOT, as in “no need for this case, as there are no more rules, let’s stop wasting the court’s time!”
Gutless, conniving, immoral bastards.
My family’s mantra for the past few years was This Too Shall Pass.
Even as our federal and provincial governments implemented segregation and discrimination policies against the unvaccinated that prevented us from public venues and travel. Even as our government and school administrators forced our unvaccinated sons to quit college. Even as our daughters could not go out with friends for coffee or a movie. Even as my husband had to pay $100 per week on covid testing for months to keep his job. Despite the all demonization and fomentation of hatred by political leaders, public health and the media.
We did our research, made our decision and maintained our principles come hell or high water. No vaccines, no arrivecan, no giving up our fundamental rights to bodily autonomy and medical privacy.
CTV article filed under “politics”, not “health”, tells all..
“Stick Insect”, noticeably absent..
Eric, it’s in Proverbs in the Bible.
(not the Canada bit, however) 🙂
I expect this had a lot more to do with the impending collapse of the Canadian air travel industry and a lot of behind-the-scenes pressure from the airlines. Poilevre is increasingly looking like a man who knows how to get in front of parade.
Who gives a shit about coming back. I want to get the hell out of this Commie Sh*t Hole. Open the U.S. border to unjabbed.
Now I will schedule another trip over seas to visit my friend. She also appears to be over her busted arm, that she acquired for free while we were in Prague:-))))
In 24 hrs. I’ll be Westjetting to Dublin before traveling around central Europe. I can visit any of 33 countries with zero Covid restrictions. I’m betting that Westjet will still attempt to force me to ‘mask up’ during my cattle-car flight. Not going to happen. If its safe on Friday, its safe on Tuesday and “we’re just following orders” isn’t going to cut it.
Going to be interesting to see what the ‘consensus’ is amongst my fellow passengers.
As said before …. hold a bag of chips and a bottle of water.
Remember – WestJet’s crew are more interested in the size of their name tags so they can “announce” their you-must-use pronouns. Speaking of airlines – Air Canada will be buying non-existent electric planes (out of Sweden?). As a thank-you the Canadian government bought 20% of Air Canada’s stock (at a discount). So, bye-bye WestJet, you’ll soon join CPAir and the National Film Board as a “we-won!” footnote in the Liberal Party’s shorter and shorter Canadian history.
An old childhood friend, with whom I got reacquainted 10 years ago, asked me a while back, without a hint of irony, if I had any plans “now that [I’m] allowed to fly”. He’s a retired CBC man so he can’t really help it.
I told him what my minimum demands were to board a plane again. Imagine my shock to learn that every single one of them has been met …. for the time being.
Brian Peckford with lose because the issue is now moot (for the duration of the trial at least).
Was that the plan?
According to the JCCF, the situation isn’t moot and its the fear of an adverse court decision that is behind the Government of Canada moving for dismissal. I dearly hope that Justin gets his ass handed to him by a court.
As some one who lives near the US border, I know that to drive down you are not often asked for proof of vaccination at the US border. They do still have a vaccine requirement for entering non residents, unless you’re an illegal. Any news as to when this will be dropped?
Anyone unvaccinated crossing by land in a car should make sure We Are The Champions is blaring loudly for the benefit of Canadian border crossing officials.
The ever-lingering stench of two years of rot, decay, and smothered freedoms kind of overpowers any sweet taste of victory.
We visited Canada two weeks ago to go to the Stratford Theatre Festival (their production of Richard III with Colm Feore is fantastic). We had a group of 18 coming from all over the USA by plane and auto. Three of the 18 (17%) were “randomly selected for testing” by the Office of Tourist Inconvenience.
Fortunately, there was walk-in testing at Shopper’s Drug Mart 20 miles away in Waterloo. “You were one of the lucky winners, weren’t you?” said the pharmacist. “I have seen that look before.” So the test was sent off. I got the results (negative) four days later at the airport in Chicago, after having sat through six plays in three days with thousands of people.
The system is annoying, irrational, useless, and inefficient. It must be a jobs program.
Justin is hoping for the new rectal swab.
Unbelievable news, I am in tears.
Thanks SDA and everyone– your contributions were phenomenal………you rock!
