  1. I want to say that this is according to plan, but I don’t think that “central planners” are smart enough to recognize that there will always be negative consequences. This is part of why the policies of the left cause such havoc, because how they look at the world means that they can’t do an effective cost/benefit analysis.

    1. all government “analysis” are static, which means that they cannot look at changes of behaviour as a result of their policies. This gives you wild estimates about how much new revenue a tax measure will bring in that never lives up to that number or massive increases in petty crime, when they release the criminal class, because reasons, or when every death is a covid death because the payment for a covid death is higher than other causes.

    2. I would say that -everything- they do is based on cost/benefit alone. They love them some EFFICIENCY, it is what gets them motivated.

It’s just that to socialism, a patent looks like a cost and euthanasia looks like cost-reduction. Tax increases are benefits. Overall, inflation is a good thing.

Managers all over Canadian medicine look at lockdown as the Good Old Days. Letting people mix freely is insanity according to them, lockdowns were huge success. Doctors, well we don’t know what they think because they are not talking. An informative silence, I do believe, particularly given the number of them who have downed tools and walked out.

That it left their medical organizations in tatters has not yet penetrated the bureaucratic minds. They think those are just “staffing issues,” easily solved by opening the tap on nursing schools and importing more foreign medical graduates. Just replace a few burnt-out cogs with shiny new ones and the machine will run smooth again. Easy!

The thing about bureaucrats is that they tend to be very sure of themselves, very secure in their little bailiwick. They lack the imagination necessary to foresee what will happen when the money stops rolling in. The Canadian government owes a TRILLION dollars right now, and there’s a war in Europe. I don’t see that playing out well for socialized medicine somehow.

      1. Please make up your mind Phantom. Either they are evil geniuses who plan it (paragraphs 1, 2, 3), or they’re not smart enough to correctly predict the likely results of their policies (paragraphs 4 and 5). They can be one or the other, but not both.

      2. Bureaucrats believe in process; they create process for reasons of fairness and as long as the process is followed, they are doing right. It doesn’t matter what the process is, whether it achieves its original goals or is self-defeating; it is followed.

      3. It is a documented and well known fact that NO cost / benefit analysis was carried out before the UK Government imposed lockdown.

  2. National health services know that they can destroy someone’s life.

Their mission was just that and it has been accomplished.

  3. You can see from the graph that the amount of waiting was increasing 10 years prior to the pandemic panic.

  4. Canadians are the type of people who complain when someone is rude as everyone lines up double file for the ovens.

  5. We would have been far better off doing nothing.. Everything was a failure.. IMO we need a constitutional amendment to make sure proper independent oversight is in place to make sure risk benefit is taken into account..

    What they did was nuts..
