  1. FT’s humour is timeless. It’s still as funny now as it was when it first aired more than 40 years ago.

    1. Educational as well, I have the Waldorf Salad recipe committed to memory.

APPLES, WALNUTS, GRAPES IN A MAYONNAISE SAUCE.

      Hehehe….

      1. The best episode was saved until last. The “Siberian hamster” was priceless.

      2. Our family always enjoyed Waldorf Salad as a starter for the Christmas dinner. My mother added shredded lettuce as a “base” for the other ingredients. It was delicious and signaled the start of Christmas dinner – a feast worthy of Bacchus.

    2. If you ever see the entire show again, watch the hotel’s sign during the opening credits. In the second series, the letters are often re-arranged into sometimes rude phrases. “Fatty Owls” was, maybe, the cleanest.

    1. Reply to Progressive Pat
      Hilarious.
      Best joke ever.
AOC would get 2 million votes, and half of those would be unfolded mailing cheats.
I think PRESIDENT TRUMP’S picks for primary are All wins.
And the Republican Repulsives that voted for impeachment have shit in their own Nest.

      To quote Tucker Carlson.
      “HAHAHA” I Can’t Breathe,I CAN’T BREATHE, BAHAHA “

I’ve wondered about ‘Pat’ myself for a while now. Come to the conclusion that he/she (remember SNL?) is pure satire.

        Love it.

  2. Colonialista:

I watched Equilibrium earlier this evening. It incorporates elements from a number of different post-apocalyptic stories, such as the soma from Brave New World, the sandmen from the movie Logan’s Run, and the crime predictions from Minority Report.

Why do I get the feeling that Schwabbo saw the movie and figured that’s what he wants for us?

    1. “Why do I get the feeling …”

A feeling you say? That will be taken care off real quick, step right this way…

    2. I looked over the comments yesterday about Vertigo and saw none from you about the film. Wasn’t it rated as one of the best films ever? Anyhow, I thought you’d have some thoughts about it.

      1. My excuse was that I got back from yet another trip to Fort St. John last night. No time for movie commentary…..

I watched Vertigo several years ago. It wasn’t one of my favourite Hitchcock films, maybe because it didn’t have the level of mystery of Rear Window or the suspense and plot twists of North by Northwest. It wasn’t the only movie with James Stewart and Kim Novak. That same year, they were in Bell Book and Candle.

Another thing to note about Vertigo was it featured a musical score by Bernard Herrmann. Herrmann composed the music for a number of Hitchcock’s films, including the aforementioned North by Northwest, Psycho, and The Birds.

As for Ms. Novak, Vertigo was one of her earliest films. Before making this one, she had already starred in two Frank Sinatra flicks (The Man with the Golden Arm and Pal Joey) as well as Picnic (with Cliff Robertson and William Holden).

One more thing. There’s a story that Hitchcock had a preference for blonde leading ladies. Let’s see….. Rear Window and To Catch a Thief featured Grace Kelly, North by Northwest Eva Marie Saint, Janet Leigh was in Psycho, and both Marnie and The Birds starred Tippi Hedren.

        1. I forgot to mention Doris Day in The Man Who Knew Too Much (another movie with Stewart) and, of course, Kim Novak.

          1. You’re welcome.

I often give a movie a second chance and, since I haven’t seen Vertigo for quite a while, I might have to take another look at it. It took 2 or 3 times before I really liked Rear Window.

      2. I just finished watching The Adventure of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, the link to which was posted two days ago.

I haven’t quite decided if it was supposed to be a spoof of the Doc Savage pulp magazine stories (which inspired a rather dreadful movie in the mid-1970s) or a live-action cartoon. There was a hint at the end that there was supposed to be a sequel but, apparently, among other things, TAOBBAT8D wasn’t as successful as hoped, so that project was shelved.

One reason to watch the movie is John Lithgow’s performance. He absolutely chews scenery in this one!

        1. John Lithgow is in my estimation one of the best actors that ever lived.

I do believe he was in a Twilight Zone episode where he was a passenger on an airline and saw some kind of creature on the wing of the aircraft…??

First time I ever saw him and he was excellent then as he is now in the “The Old Man” current TV series…

    1. “Meta Platforms Inc., the parent of Facebook, slashed plans to hire engineers by at least 30 per cent. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that he’s anticipating one of the worst downturns in recent history. The company had more than 77,800 employees at the end of March.”

Guess the 600 million dollars Mark Zuckerberg paid off Democrats to cheat,
      Went Bassackards.

  3. The love of a russian woman:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/wfdwuu/captured_russian_soldier_calls_to_his_wife/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Captured orc calls wife, she tells him she is as work and too busy to talk. You could see bewilderment on the husband’s and journalist’s faces. She was probably disappointed that the “white Lada money”* she has promised to her lover was not coming.

*The price of white stock Lada equals roughly the value of death benefits paid to the family, it is also called “coffin money”.

    1. “I wonder if they voted?”

No but they are planning to vote Liberal in the next election.

    1. Ah, Lawrence of Arabia….. one of the two best English-language films ever made (the other one being The Best Years of Our Lives).

One reason O’Toole got the role was due to his performance in the earlier The Day They Robbed the Bank of England in which he plays a guard who catches on that something’s not quite the way it seems at the bank. LOA made him a household name after that, just as it did for Omar Sharif.

One thing that struck me was how the movie presents its story. With the right shots and careful editing, it says a lot without any dialogue by achieving the right visual effect. It definitely is one movie that needs to be seen on a large screen.

      1. I looked for O’Toole’s earlier movie, but doesn’t appear to be available on Odysee, though there is a version dubbed into Spanish(?) on YouTube.

It’s been a while since it was shown on TCM.

  4. Even the left wing Economist has it figured out: The global housing boom is running out of steam
Where are prices going to fall most sharply?
” For the past two decades, Canada’s white-hot property market has burned ever brighter. Now things are cooling down: prices have fallen for three consecutive months. ”

  5. With all due respect to the fine people who love talking about movies and TV shows here… could we please create a separate daily thread for this topic?

I find it often makes Reader Tips so bloated and cumbersome that it becomes a chore weeding out the friendly chatter from the newsworthy links. Also, since “Turtle Island” is now a regular bit on SDA for a shotgun approach of topics, does “Reader’ Tips” still really need a ‘daily topic’, too?

    Just my 3 cents worth.

    1. I think movies as its own thread is a nice idea. There obviously is keen interest, but you are right, it makes Tips more cumbersome.

        1. Let’s see what Kate thinks.

Mind you, discussing a movie in this thread can be appropriate from time to time. For example, Lawrence of Arabia, despite its historical inaccuracies, explains a lot of what’s happening in the Middle East right now and then there’s the current “woke” mentality in Hollywood.

          I’m open to suggestions.

          1. No doubt movies can often be relevant to today’s discussions.

I certainly wasn’t trying to rain on your parade, BA, I have often enjoyed these discussions and participated in more than a few myself. As a matter of fact, based on your constantly growing ’roundtuit list’, I am quite pleased that you plan on living to 100. 🙂

Maybe with a dedicated thread, we could get you to 110.

  6. Quirky article from Better Dwelling mag, saying office foot traffic in Ontario’s big cities — Toronto, Ottawa — have declined markedly from the pre-China-floo days:
    https://betterdwelling.com/ontarios-small-towns-are-booming-while-toronto-struggles-to-recover/

Two things the article doesn’t mention: people may be leaving Toronto and Ottawa given soaring violent crime, and the 50% drop in foot traffic in Ottawa may be the huge numbers of federal employees loafing, er, working at home.

    1. Maybe those numbers are just based upon the number of BLM and No One Is Illegal protests being held?

Their donations from the Chinese Community Party must be down this year.

    1. “According to a police source, the suspect’s name is Abdulla Shaikh.”

      https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/suspect-killed-3-victims-likely-at-random-had-mental-health-issues-montreal-police/ar-AA10iNYD?li=AAggXBV

“A 26-year-old man suspected of shooting dead three people in the Montreal area earlier this week had mental health issues and likely chose his victims at random, Quebec provincial police said Thursday.”

Every fcking time one of these fckers does this we hear the same fcking line.
      ‘Islamophobia’ my lily white ass.

  7. Dimwit basketball player Brittney Griner get 9 years in the big house in Russia. She gets caught with some dope in her luggage at the airport. Where’d she think she was?

The Americans will get her outa there at some point with a prisoner exchange. I don’t think they should offer too much – maybe a 3rd round draft pick, a prospect…

    1. Brittney Griner is one of the Demoncrap’s preferred people. Bowe Bergdahl being another one. Can spare no expense in getting these traitorous bastards back.

    1. For a movie how about the reveal of the most dangerous organization in the world, in the movie The President’s Analyst, 1967, staring James Coburn?
