The meme has been doing the rounds since the late noughties but this is immaterial to the police officers who are keen to exercise their powers of Three Strikes and You’re Out.

I think what surprises me the most is that the police have been infiltrated so thoroughly. If I were a police officer in that situation, I wouldn’t have been able to pursue the arrest. Obviously, the direct result would have been a penalty of some sort for refusing to “do the job.” But, that does a couple things as well. It may encourage more officers to question the application of fascism and the next thing you know the “go along to get along” philosophy hits a bit of a hiccup. Additionally, firing a police officer is no easy task unless the Union itself is, also, infiltrated with the same true ideologues.
What it comes down to is numbers, really. There are more people who don’t support this jackassery than there are people who truly do. The trouble is that there is no organized move to stamp it out. There is a lot of whining, complaining and eye rolling….but no huge mob of dissenters making a concerted effort to remedy the situation and toss out those offenders.

Yep. Used to be that we of SDA comments section supported the cops. Because we know that not having cops is usually worse than having them. Please take particular note of that word “usually” because that’s an important part.
You’ll probably find that a lot of us stopped supporting the cops around about 2006. Caledonia, you know. That for me was the watershed moment when the OPP jumped the shark. Since then there has been a lot of shark-jumping.
Times change, smart ass. Conditions change. I think it is safe to say that Canada 2022 is a different proposition than Canada 2004. The use of the Emergencies Act this year is a symptom of a disease that’s been percolating for a very long time.
