I took media writing back in the 80s, and worked for some small local media outlets, and yes, if us mere reporters swerved too close to the line that separated “news” from “editorial”, we got fried by the old school editor.

Sadly, most Canadians believe this stuff and agree with it. I’d say that over 60% of Canadians think the convoy protesters are extremists, and that most people who object to vaccine mandates are too. I live in a nice neighbourhood full of nice, well-educated professionals who absolutely abhor my views, and those of rural Canadians. They may not truly believe the more egregious propaganda that comes from the government press, but they accept it, because the very idea that it might not be true would be antithetical to their desires for the way the world should work.
They know in their hearts that anti-vaxxers aren’t white supremacists. They know that James Top isn’t a traitor. They know that the Freedom Convoy was not a violent insurrection. Question, the article states that the Convoy was deemed illegal in February. I read somewhere that a judge has since ruled they were legally protesting. Is this correct? If yes, the author is being deliberately misleading. What a hit piece.
Justice McLean, a superior court judge, was ruling on an injunction while presiding over a class-action law-suite brought on by a 21-year-old civil servant. During a hearing, there was a whole slew of injunctions that the plaintiffs was asking for. The only injunction granted by Justice McLean was to put a halt to the horn honking. In his rejection of all the other injunctions requested by the plaintiff, the judge commented that the protest had a legal and constitutional right to protest peacefully. I don’t recall the exact words, but you can imagine what the media of the day did with this. They, of course, buried all the failed injunctions, and used the one and only one successful injunction as the basis for their claim that the protest was illegal. A bold-faced LIE, one of many told by the scribes of King Trudeau the Second.
