Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Who cares?
Yeah, pretty much. I mean, the Drinker is an entirely competent sort of Film 101-level critic, but the implied insistence that any of these movies really matter all that much bores me in a way that, say, Ya Boi Zack doesn’t. Zack is mostly just pointing and laughing at terrible people who make terrible comics. The Drinker is stoking nerdrage. Now he’s making quite a decent business model out of it, so there’s that, and if you dredge up some of his earlier videos from before he created the Critical Drinker persona he’s nowhere near as salty. So the cynic in me thinks this is mostly about pandering to nostalgic Peter Pan Gen-Xers.
I note that despite some truly awful adaptations and sequels over the years, you don’t see Dune fans losing their shit like this. But Dune is a massive paper brick of a book that requires a good grasp of both recent and ancient history and an adult reading comprehension level to apprehend. Which brings me back to “grow up, nerds”.
“So the cynic in me thinks this is mostly about pandering to nostalgic Peter Pan Gen-Xers.”
Your cynicism is unwarrranted, IMO.
The Critical Drinker is an excellent example of why ‘old guard’ media movie critics
are akin to most young actoresses who have ‘matured’.
(Think Kathleen Turner, rather than Catherine Deneuve)
He does excellent recommendations, damning avoids, long form sessions with other movie addicts, and has a great accent and sign off.
He’s amassed a decent audience, across the age spectrum, without having to cater to content managers or ad departments.
I’ve appreciated/enjoyed his synopsis of every movie he’s covered that I’ve viewed.
My only criticism is that he drinks Jack Daniels, instead of Wild Turkey.
Precisely.
He articulates everything wrong with modern adventure/action movies and the soulless corporate hacks who produce them.
We need his angry commentary now more than ever.
The last movie I paid to watch was Aeon Flux.
I haven’t watched any of the new Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, James Bond and other crap that the woke are now cranking out.
I think the most recent good movies I watched were Oblivion, Predestination and Edge of Tomorrow.
Russia made some good movies, like Nightwatch and Daywatch. The Australians made a good movie called The Quiet Earth.
Try the 2003 Hungarian film Kontroll.
I’ll look for it, thanks.
I like some of those Jap horror movies too, like Ringu and Ju-On. The Koreans did some OK horror, too.
Ju-On still gives me chills, and I’m in my 50s.
Asian Coen Bros.
Most excellent.
A Woman, A Gun, and a Noodle Shop.

The new Top Gun is worth seeing.
The last movie I saw was L.A. Confidential.
My last one that I saw in a theatre was even earlier: Jurassic Park in a second-run house about 6 months after it was released.
They own the IP they can do as they please.. Its time to have a funeral, mourn and move on.. Im sure obi-wan kenobi would want you to love again?.. Losers..
As far as toxic goes.. Everything is toxic these days or it doesn’t get noticed.. That’s how social media promotion works.. Hell, I would go out of my way to piss people off so I could lay down my sanctimonious drivel for why I did it.. Free publicity :)..
I’m going to have to drink myself to sleep again after watching this. Thanks a lot Kate.
my first assumption was that it was disney bot accounts sending her those messages….
because Disney doesn’t want any criticism that it can’t write off to “toxic fandom”
