  4. The peoples of the Third World understand the reasons for the surge in food prices, and that whatever the persons responsible think they want is not worth condemning the Third World to mass starvation. Third World governments are acting accordingly.

    It’s a pity that we in the enlightened West can’t have a serious conversation about, well, pretty much anything. Including the causes of world hunger.

    1. Vladimir Putin’s invasion into Ukraine is sharply reducing grain production and exports, in both Ukraine and Russia. As grain supply falls, world prices rise. So food prices rise. I realize you embrace Russia and Third World rioters, but I am just stating facts. – DM, PhD in economics.

        All his invasion is directly responsible for is a reduction of Ukrainian exports.

      6. Do you not realize how much grain is grown in Canada, India and China? They are the top growers. Then there is Australia, Pakistan, France and Germany. Ukraine is midway and Russia lower as producers.

          Ukraine war will affect things much more later in the year than now because it’s planting season, not harvest season for most of the world at the moment. We ain’t seen nothing yet.

  10. That graph is literally “off the charts”. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the military have closed all roads leading to the National Assembly while they vote in a new Prime Minister. Contrast that with the California suburb that stops mail delivery due to violence against mail carriers. Don’t address the violence, stop delivering the mail. Block off all roads so the politicians are safe while they replace the leader of the country.

    2) there is no inflation, like we said
    3) there is some inflation, but not everywhere, and its not bad, so point 1 stands, please ignore point 2
    4) there is some inflation in some minor areas such as fuel, housing and food, but its manageable
    5) its only for a short time, just like two weeks to flatten the COVID curve, remember then?
    6) inflation is actually good, Stephen Colbert says so, and who would know better?
    7) the government has a plan for inflation if it ever really becomes a for real problem for real people
    8) you’ll love wage and price controls…
    9) its corporate greed that somehow didn’t exist two years ago, just started overnight
    10) did we mention the inflation that isn’t happening, but would be great, is Putin’s fault?

My pantry and freezer are loaded, and I have been quietly re-stocking other things, that I need – soap, bleach, paper products, otc meds, personal care items, batteries, ziploc bags, etc. I have no good place for a garden, but I have 2 apple trees that are fairly productive. Maybe I’ll buy a fruit dehydrator.

    I should be okay until somebody decides they want my stuff. Short story: back when Y2K was a big fear and everybody was hoarding supplies, one guy said to his neighbor “Aren’t you stocking up on stuff?” The neighbor responded, “I’m a hunter. I have guns. Anything you have that I want, I can get from you.”
