Not only would the government confiscate peoples bank accounts for simply exercising their charter rights, the banks themselves were fully complicit in the actions taken. Banks choose to side with a hysterical, gas lighting, out of control, lying federal government over their customers. They need to look in the mirror and take steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Hiding from it and shifting the blame does not bring back trust or customers.
If even now banks don’t realize that their business is one of profound, deeply held trust then they don’t deserve to be in business.
People literally put their entire lives and the lives of their families in the hands of banks. The Canadian banks showed the world that those lives mean nothing to them. Average every day people are disposable. Their lives don’t matter.
Good luck getting that horse back in the barn.
The Canadian Press- MPs told of confusion, panic after Liberals vowed financial crackdown on Freedom Convoy
The voice of Canadian credit unions says their members watched people make significant withdrawals after the federal government vowed a financial crackdown on the so-called “freedom convoy.”
But a House of Commons committee is being told that the government was less than clear about the intended targets shortly after the financial measures were announced.

Liberal loving Gormley was acting all shocked on his show today that Canadians were actually pulling significant amounts of money from their accounts, despite a lot of people publicly stating they’d be closing their accounts on the day the EA was implemented
I usually like Gormley and usually agree with him, but I have to think that like many of the U.S. Media, Rawlco Radio is being paid to promote the vaccines. What would they do differently if they weren’t?
Of course, they can’t really defend themselves because they wouldn’t have any receipts if they didn’t take any money.
But how else do they explain their promotion of vaccines and denigration of therapeutics for more than a year now? Where are all the news and opinion shows discussing vaccine side effects? Wouldn’t a true journalist smell a story and make a name for themselves?
And it was easy for Gormley to denigrate the truckers freedom convoy as well since he drank the vaccine kool-aid.
It is past time to burn Canada to the ground as a possession of the Crown , and erect a Constitutional Representative Republic in its place. Problem is how do you get past the 85% of Canadians who are useless obedient unionized lazy socialist pigs in order to make it happen?
Good idea John, maybe you can get Joe Biden to run things. Come on man stop blaming an old woman for our failures.
They have a vaxx for that.
And they’ve been lining up for the next dose.
No worries.
Nuke.
Nobody should put money in a Canadian bank. Maybe a few simoleons in a modest checking account for paying bills, but anything else should be in a foreign (but not US) bank.
How do I open a foreign bank account? I would do it in a heartbeat if I knew how.
RBC offers a cross border account. You open an RBC Canadian acct, and then an RBC USA acct, and then instant cross border free transfers at the correct exchange rate and up to $40,000.00 per day.
Gormster is a useful idiot. Much like Adler etc etc.
A Very Modest Proposal:
As I sit here showing my support for Ukraine by eating perogies, we need to be having very serious discussions looking into the activities of anyone involved in the so-called green movement as it is undeniable they were involved in helping Russia accumulate wealth to invade Ukraine. Yes, bank accounts will be frozen, Prime ministerial foundations will have their funds confiscated, no-fly lists will be created, houses will undoubtedly be seized and jobs will be lost, but can we take the risk that these Putin puppets won’t further help aide Putin’s war crimes? Jagmeet Singh must assuredly be launching a bill as we speak to declare these green Putin sympathizers a terrorist organization. Anyone who speaks out against this should be shunned as being a supporter of Putin.
Furthermore, all Canadians working in the oil patch should be immediately awarded the Order of Canada for their distinguished service in helping Canada end Russian control over European energy markets.
IMHO. 🙂
“The government was less than clear about the intended targets”
I think the Trudeau government knew exactly what they intended.
This does not mean I agree with what they did.
It had a double purpose. It hit specific people the PM did not like and was a trial run for future wealth theft.
Now the issue for the Liberals is to make sure all law suits are heard by Liberal judges.
Shouldn’t be hard. They are ALL Liberal judges.
Pretty sure it was here on SDA years ago that Kate posted the political donations of judges in Saskatchewan. As I recall they were almost all in for the Libs. In Saskatchewan.
My personal anger will never be vented.
Please don’t stop now!
I’m fighting with a bank to get money ‘locked in’ out since they broke Trust with us.
One big bank caved. It wasn’t much money but it was ‘locked in’ and they redeemed it.
I’ve already told this second bank I’m going on social media stating I no longer trust them, I don’t believe my money is safe with them and because of bank runs I don’t believe they will be able to pay me off at maturity. I’m also going to contact people linked to them on social media expressing my concerns as a dissatisfied customer.
We’ll see how this goes.
You saw that article a few days ago about a housing developer suing someone who gave them a bad review? I’m not doubting you and agree. I’d hate for you to be the one.offered up on the altar of progressive legal warfare
Thanks. It’s my elderly mother’s money. I’m open to ideas.
It’s not a bad review. It’s telling the truth.
I’m thinking that it’s not in Canadian banks best interest to be going after little old women who only want their money back and can’t get it. And suing your clients who only want their money out seems like a great way to scare every other clients.
But we are in crazy times.
But I am open to other ideas.
Thanks Farmerboy.
Banks, like every other corporation are fully on board with Build Back Better. This was no mistake or error in judgement and as such it will be done again. If it creates a balance sheet situation, the government will happily help them out.
We just took a bunch of cash out of Scotia Bank. We sure had to jump through a lot of hoops just to cash out a mutual fund.
Unfortunately I have all my wealth in one of the big four banks, If I could get all my money and investments out where does one go? Never mind the punishing taxes and penalties I’d pay for moving that much money out of RRSPs. You spend your life planning for retirement, you give up lavish vacations and houses and in the end the government can walk in and collude with the banking industry to strip you off all you worked for and you have no avenue or recourse to sue. What the Liberals and NDP did should be actionable in a court room, and the banks should be facing serious crushing fines for going along with the above groups without so much as a court hearing.
Funny thing, if you put a mask on,.went into the bank, demanded the same amount of money under the same criteria, you’d be going to jail
RRSPs are a con.
Banks are one thing, Credit Unions are a different discussion. They should NEVER have gone along with this bs! Mine didn’t do anything to my account BUT their Callabria VISA cancelled my credit card. fortunately it’s a low limit one I only use for online transactions…they didn’t go looking for my regular-in-my-wallet card (different acct. obviously).
I didn’t contact them as I didn’t want to sir up a hornets’ nest ie create problems where there aren’t any.
Average, every day, people are nothing—nothing, that is, but cannon fodder for the war with Russia from which investors in Canadian banks hope to become even more obscenely wealthy than before.
Never mind that Bay Street will be among the first targets destroyed by the Russian nuclear attack.
Canadian chartered banks are a government granted oligopoly which compels them to toe the line or face loss of charter status. It’s a fascist system in a fascist state. they even take the initiative to discriminate on the basis of political opinions of customers (Ezra Levant denied a mortgage for an office over the advice of local branch personnel explicitly on the grounds of his politics) and they now hold court over the energy sector on the basis of fascist, woke, green theocratic, ESG nihilism. It’s partially why the oil patch is holding back on cap-ex in order to use cash flow to eliminate debt and be free of the fascist banksters.
I would previously thought your sentiments a little exaggerated and extreme, John. But now, they sound about right we have a corporatism in Canada which is, like fascism, a union of private business and the state, but in Canada, there is a long history of the boundaries between the two being so vague that we have the very Canadian “Familly Compact”.
Please take the stage, oh five large famillies of Canada. McCain, Desmarais (the king of famillies) Weston, Irving, Bronfman
My bank (BMO) sent me a survey the other day. I gave them a low rating. They wanted to know why so I informed them that it was because I didnt feel safe with my money sitting somewhere it can be frozen because of my political views. Next day I got a call from the bank manager trying to tell me how it was a very few targeted people etc. I only have 20 grand in there but I though it was worth telling them they screwed up bad on this.
I’ve been having this conversation over and over.
Yeah, we weren’t targeted……yet.
The Canadian financial system was destroyed in less than an hour.
Stateless, I will amend your comment slightly – Trust in the Canadian financial system was destroyed in less than one hour.
A very few politically targeted people this time, as a trial run. Next time, the net will be wider.
This might sound silly or sacrilegious at first, but hear me out.
Should we all join the Liberal Party?
It might be a handy ‘get out of jail free’ card.
It could reduce audits and grease the bureaucratic wheels in all sorts of ways.
It might be a nice line in any media story if one is unlucky enough to make the news: ‘long time Liberal Party member…..’
Currently most of my savings are in my house, but I am trying to think what is a ready liquid asset I could put my money into when I sell it, and cannot be taken from me.
Gold (and or Silver) in one ounce and smaller bars / coins stored in multiple locations and Banks aren’t one of them. Russia, China, possibly India and SE Asia might take us into a gold standard in their breaking free of the US dollar reserve currency. The US is doing everything they can to make it happen without a conscious thought about it. The Spawn-Fuhrer sold off the last of Canada’s reserves so he’s entirely invested in the WEF and digital state fiat currency.
I agree, the government actions were perfectly clear.
Message received thank you.
Cash is king and my bank account will continue to be,just enough to pay those bills.
Wealth is not safe in a bank.
Kinda narrows our choices, but that has been obvious for a few years now..
Damn I hate being right.
“Do not steal, your government hates competition”.
Is true on so many levels..
While some lean toward precious metals, small easily traded items of universal utility are another consideration, especially if you have room to stash stuff.
Firearms are sure to appreciate in price, especially if you can evade the coming mandatory theft by Government Orders..As the Kleptocracy enters its end game and the ossified bureaus attempt to rule and regulate everything, these tools will appear to be needed, by ever more citizens.
Tools and the skill to use them, skills and the ability to transmit them will be needed.
Shame really,it was the best attempt at luxurious civilized living we have achieved so far,too bad its over.
“…the government was less than clear about the intended targets …”
Because it was a temper tantrum thrown by a below average IQ spoiled brat with a trust fund who gut upset about “F*ck Trudeau” flags.
“They need to look in the mirror and take steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again. ”
TOO LATE!
They willingly broke trust with their customers, and will NEVER be trusted again. Stateless nailed it: “The Canadian financial system was destroyed in less than an hour.”
We’re slowly removing the bulk of our money from the bank we can no longer trust. Making alternate plans, now that the gov’t and banks have declared war on us.
