So, but here’s the thing: what was the left all hot and bothered about yesterday? What the left was hot and bothered about was the fact that Elon Musk tweeted out an internet meme about Hitler. This is what the left was super worried about. So, just to get this straight, if a Black Lives Matter activist attempts to murder a Jew in Louisville, this is not antisemitism. Even if his page is loaded with antisemitism, not antisemitism. However, if Elon Musk makes a Hitler joke about a leader who has now invoked an emergencies act to freeze bank accounts and utilize dictatorial power, Elon Musk must be, secretly, a vicious antisemite.

It’s always the truth that provokes the strongest outrage.

          1. I was looking through a number of ham “swap & shop” websites last night. There’s lots of old CB equipment available, though it’s mainly for base stations.

            Also, check out listings on Kijiji as well, using key words like “ham radio” or “amateur radio”.

            The CB band is a very narrow slice of the HF bands. Jamming that would be trivial.
            Better still (from their point of view), modern direction finding equipment is very fast and very precise.
            Within 15 minutes, a helicopter loaded with troops can be over your house.
            Better still, from their point of view, drone can be there in 5 minutes or less and unload its missiles into your house — “Oh a gas explosion. How sad.”

            A number of radio amateurs operate their stations remotely. One reason is that they’re restricted from going on the air due to local rules and regulations. Another is the amount of local radio frequency interference.

            I had several contacts with a fellow ham who lived in Cleveland but had a station set up in southern Arizona.

            As for locating the station, it’s not as easy as you think. I’ve mentioned fox-hunting, which is an activity that some radio amateurs engage in. The objective is to locate a transmitter but using basic equipment. It can take several hours.

            Many years ago, I lived in southern Alberta. I noticed a lot of background interference when I tried using my shortwave receiver. I called the government radio inspector’s office in Calgary and, a while later, two of them came to my town. When they noticed that my receiver was a low-cost Sony radio, one of them remarked that it was a lot better than the equipment they had.

            In addition, the CB channels are spread over a part of the spectrum around 27 MHz. Adjacent to those frequencies are allocations for industrial and medical devices. If the government tries to jam citizen’s band traffic, there’s a good chance that the signals will also interfere with the other services. Not a good idea.

            I know about remote operation of radios. But that isn’t what was being talked about here. They are almost always operated via the Internet, so pretty easily stopped at that level. If not, take out the transmitter, even if it’s 100 miles away … do you have another?

            Radio DF as practiced by (most) hams is at about the level it was in WWII. The government have had 70 years and all the money they need (yours and mine) to do better. They do much better. Example:

            That company does vehicle mounted systems too. A single person equipped like that can locate a transmitter in a few minutes. The armed forces get much better toys than do the guys employed to try to find radio interference affecting the plebs.

            As for the 27MHz Industrial/Scientific band – that was allocated many, many years ago. Most of the uses there have moved on, except maybe for industrial induction heating systems. They are not going to be at all affected by jamming. Nor does jamming have to be the brute-force approach used by the USSR and US. There are much more “surgical” approaches available these days.

            The Canadian RF spectrum as some slight differences in allocation than what’s been laid out by the FCC. Also, keep in mind that I was referring to Canada and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of government equipment turned out to be second-rate. (I’ve had my dealings with certain Canadian government departments, so I have some experience with that.)

            In Canada, one is allowed up to, I think, 3 callsigns.

            Hams can legally have license plates made with their callsign on it, as they’re members of a government-regulated communications service. I had a set with my original callsign made for my car. After I inherited my father’s truck, and I had it registered in Alberta, I had another set made with my second one.

            It’s not unusual for some hams to have more than one callsign. They may have a station set up at home and one at, say, a country cottage or farm outside of town.

      One thing about SDA – many of the comments here are more insightful and erudite than anything to be heard from the chatterers in the MSM. And the links people provide are sometimes off topic, sometimes humorous, and usually worth a click and a minute.
      BION, even the trolls. They get my blood boiling for a minute, but it is worth hearing them, just to have a chance to reflect on their views, consider any possible validity, and think of refutations and responses ahead of time, for when we encounter those same views in public or with family.
      Special thanks to Kate et al for starting this site years ago, and for sticking with it. It has been a long ride. If it were not for SDA, don’t know where I would go for a similar compilation of relevant legitimate news. I am sure Justine wants sites like this shut down permanently, due to “unacceptable views.” (Which no one in the media has ever asked him to specify.)
      I guess what I am saying is that SDA has become as much a part of my life as CBC is for many on the other side. We need information, we need connection, and we need sites like this one to inform, infuriate, motivate, and give ideas for concrete action.

      1. Advancing out of your trench for an attack or for a recce or fighting patrol forward would certainly be at least as dangerous as a runner’s job. But runners went forward and back between HQ and those elements that went forward in the attack, and when their own lines that were under attack, they moved between sections of it not knowing whether the enemy or friendly forces held the positions they were going to. Plenty of exposure. Their job didn’t get safe or easy just because one infamous a-hole happened to be employed in it.

        And at the universities, lose the government funding for useless, unemployable departments. Continue to subsidize trades, medical, engineering, and some others. It would not surprise me that we in the rest of Canada wouldn’t be familiar with that uniform, especially if it’s their special gear for stomping on protesters.     2. I think that is unlikely. The UN doesn’t have a standing army, much as it has always wanted one. It relies upon troops lent to its operations by member countries.   24. I am curious as to what will happen if the U.S. does enter a war with Russia over the Ukraine at the same time as tensions are high with China. They are realizing their northern neighbour is fractured and weak and has a poorly funded and equipped small military. The fact that we have the 4th largest (some say third) oil reserves in the world and the largest fresh water supply also comes into play. Not to mention the fact that we are between Alaska and the lower 48 with Alberta right in the middle. And Alberta is not happy and has proven separatist leanings. Do you think I am being ridiculous?

    1. Yes, you are being rediculous. The US will not enter a war with Russia, that is nothing more than puffery to cover for a cratering economy in the US (and here). If the Russians do assert themselves in Ukraine, China will use it as cover to take Taiwan, and probably will anyway, because the US cannot or will not stop them. Russia, does not need oil, they have lots, and they don’t need the challenge of defending a border with the US, we are useful in the middle, as we are powerless but provide space. If the US had decent leadership, they would have already annexed Canada, we should be so fortunate.

      1. Hi Peter. Russia does not need oil at the moment but they do have desires to own arctic oil reserves. Alaska is also extremely close to Russia. The U.S. is also under pressure regarding oil supply. Biden is actively trying to get other oil supplying countries to increase production. On top of that it is no secret that wars consume huge amounts of fossil fuels. I have always been of the belief that sooner or later Canada will be swallowed by the U.S. Maybe that time is a long way off still but maybe not. Things are lining up. Especially since we have just proven that we have a government with communist type leanings that even U.S. Democrats don’t like.

          The US is under pressure for oil supply as a matter of policy only. 2 Million b.p.d. have gone offline since Biden became POTUS by choice. The US was, and still is the largest producer in the world, but could produce much more, much like us, but we have an entire government of eco-whackjobs and a citizenry of people who have to be the most economically illiterate on the planet.
