COVID-19: Liberal MP critical of government’s “divisive” approach, wants roadmap to ending restrictions

The federal government needs to quickly offer a road map for the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, according to Quebec Liberal MP Joël Lightbound, citing mental health concerns from pediatricians and the parents of depressed children, and the inability of many to earn a living from a “MacBook at their cottage.”

Lightbound, MP for Louis-Hébert, chair of the industry committee and the Quebec Liberal caucus, and a former parliamentary secretary to the finance minister, said the Liberal government has changed in policy and in tone since last year’s election campaign and appears unwilling to adapt to the evolution of the pandemic.

“Now the approach stigmatizes people and divides people,” he told reporters this morning, pointing to the loosening of restrictions in European countries with lower vaccination rates than Canada.

Lightbound said he raised his concerns in caucus to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but owes it to constituents to publicly voice his concerns. He said other Liberal MPs share his concerns and that the party has historically been “open for dissent and different opinions.”

Lightbound wants the federal government to: provide “quantifiable parameters” for current measures such as the threshold for hospitalization publish studies and scientific advice underpinning current measures start negotiating with the provinces on the Canada Health Transfer, calling the federal position “hard to understand” in terms of the timing of negotiations

Lightbound also said demonstrators causing disruption and gridlock in Ottawa need to move, but their concerns need to be addressed.

  1. Smart guy, keep an eye on him in the future. He understands that the first to break with the gov’t on this will be recognized as a courageous leader.

    1. That was my first reaction, but I’m guessing he’s just the tip of the iceberg. Kicking him out of caucus may not be so easy; it’d make Trudeau even more unpopular, especially in Quebec!
But then, MiniT ain’t the sharpest knife…

      1. yes Kenji! That belongs on bumper stickers, tshirts, coffee mugs. So proud of Canada and the truckers

    1. What, a liberal actually doing the right, honorable, honest thing? Say it isn’t so.
With you on that guarded optimism.

      1. Time to put him on a “suicided” watch. Dear Leader does not like anyone who disagrees with him

      2. I think that hell is freezing over for me. A reasonable and smart Liberal???
        I can’t believe it!!!

        1. Nope. Just another politician, his finger in the air, reading which way the political wind is blowing, looking down the road at re-election.

Where has he been the last two years? For that matter, I wouldn’t trust any of these bastards who appear to have recently had their, “Coming to Jesus” moment. Not a one. Little too convenient.

With extremely rare exceptions, every one of them is complicit in this & need to be treated accordingly.

          1. “…every one of them is complicit in this & need to be treated accordingly.”

I would respectfully suggest that we should avoid turning into our adversaries.

            They don’t forgive. We should.

They don’t believe that late is better than never. We should.

Mind, I don’t disagree with your larger point. But–again–let’s not become so focused on hunting monsters that we ourselves become monsters.

          2. Forgive? Not a chance.

            Forget? Never.

            Late? Nope. Yesterday.

Avoid turning into our adversaries? It is not within me to lie like they have.

And, lest you think I’m un-Christian, David, I’m all over the Old Testament. Big fan of Deuteronomy. You familiar with Chapter 19?

    1. The roll back of mask mandates in Blue New Jersey and Blue Delaware signals a shift in the wind.

      1. Even CA is easing mask mandates … oh! Except on schoolchildren. Kids still need to be muzzled in masks … why? Teachers UNION.

    2. Oh yes. Not surprised the first domino is from Quebec. That province knows which side of the bread has butter on it. Bye bye Trudeau.

  2. If a larger number of Liberal MPs and NDP cronies of decent character(?) – and I’m sure there are some – start to walk away from the Party and support for Trudeau, this could come to an end very quickly.

    1. And there’s that too. It’s difficult to think there’s a ‘sincere’ Liberal.

One day at a time. Maybe he’s serving nefarious purposes, the sacrificial lamb, falling on his sword for the party. “See, we’re not all fascists”

  3. There has to be discontent in Liberal ranks having to sit in QP and take the shitkicking from the Conservatives while Trudeau hides in his cottage. The focus on the stalemate is finally turning to Trudeau, which means it’s only going to get worse if he continues to hide.

    1. Quite likely. The real item to watch for is when Butts/Telford make a bolt for the exit. It’s those two who are the actual leaders of the LPC, not Blackface. When those two go, that’s when the real panic will set in among the Liberal caucus.

There’s not much he can do except hide. He’s painted himself into a corner with his abusive rhetoric about truckers, racism, fascism. His main counterplay was the bought and paid for media. But all that’s achieving is a steady erosion of their public credibility. The other gambit pleaded for by Bobby Watson was to send in the military, and the military said, “fuck off, clean up your own mess.”

    2. It’s not the opposition they are worried about, it’s the constituency on their side howling for them to make the honking stop that has them worried.
      Their champion is MIA.
It’s the same feeling conservatives get every election when they look at their ballot choices and don’t see an actual conservative on the ballot.

    3. Kate He’s no longer hiding. He was in the House yesterday responding to Candice Bergen and he was sickening.

    4. Perhaps, but only if one of the invertebrates turns out to have spine.

      Politics is theatre after all.

  4. And where, pray tell, is Fat Fuck Ford these days? Where is that useless mouth-breathing baboon hiding? He should be among the first to walk away from the Branch Covidian Church of Demented Karens. Or could it be that the globohomo Schwabian Schutz Staffel have pictures of him diddling little kids on Epstein’s Island, next to Wild Bill Clinton, Gay Choomer O’Bama and the rest of the evil perverts?

  5. One he’s a liberal which means everything he does will be done for his benefit and it’s only a coincidence if it benefits his constituents.
Two, under its current leadership those who go against the PMO narrative quickly find themselves sitting as an independent. This individual would have already realized this when he decided he would go public. Ergo by point one he already has another safe haven planned, perhaps a jump to provincial politics.

Fun fact, the liberals are losing the narrative on this because they don’t have a reasonable response to it, only an extreme response, and it’s very hard to make the charges of extremism stick to the protesters when you have a chorus foaming at the mouth wanting blood, and their poster boy not showing up to the dance.

  6. Its live now on ctv windsor.
Found it when I went to vote in the poll.
I tried to find it on YouTube in order to scroll backwards. Its not there.

  7. It depends which way the wind blows and how good their antenna are. Which side has the momentum in public support and opinion?

    1. I don’t know if Trudeau botched his response, on his own, or if it is down to his advisors. I agree he painted himself into a corner by shooting off his big stupid mouth, regarding the truckers. A pol with good political instincts would have found some chump to stand in for him. Trudeau could have stayed above the fray and then swept in with a reasonable response. Too late now; the memes, which have gone worldwide, are brutal.
As for the pols peeking over the barricades, who’ll be first to meet with a Trucker delegation?
“This is the truckers to lose, Trudeau has to win every interaction to maintain his position. All the tuckers need to do is not lose. ” Anonymous ( IDk17UL1bg)

  8. Politicians need to be reminded that they can and will be personally held liable for supporting these mandates. We’ve seen this in the past and when the truth concerning these “vaccines” comes out there are going to be a lot of people who want justice. They’re already holding mock trials in Germany and a complaint has been filed with the ICC. Yeah I know. But when this gets real these politicians are going to have no where to hide.

    1. Are you guys paying attention to the tools American parents are using to go after the school boards for their lockdown and masking mandates?

Each school board member has a surety bond. The parents are filing individual lawsuits Against each board member and each board member is liable up to $100,000.

None or very few of those school board members are doctors and they’re giving out medical advice they are above their pay grade and they have no business doing it. A parent in Clark County Nevada family $200 million lawsuit against the board and told then he’s going to keep filing lawsuits until they stop with the stupidity.

Arizona, too. Calling parents domestic terrorists and the justice department forming a domestic terrorist unit to go after parents of school-age children broke through the deep blue socialist bubble in Virginia and that’s how Youngkin won. Louden and Fairfax counties is the DC swamp bedroom communities. Those parents were offended to be lumped in with a deplorables.

They’re also filing lawsuits against the schools as well. Loudoun County Virginia is frustratingly entertaining.

    2. I know you have a different government structure, but it seems your politicians aren’t as nimble as our politicians.

On the other hand, having elections every two years focuses the mind. The Founding Fathers were brilliant.

If you ever get into an argument with a mask advocate, you might want to point out Florida and Governor DeSatan.

Let them know Florida has been unmasked for over a year and a half and people are moving to Florida at the rate of about 20,000 a month. And that’s not to replace the dead population from Covid.

And just ask them why do you think that is? If they don’t like Florida remind them of Sweden they decided not to mask either in the beginning and took a lot of flack for it from the EU.

  9. I wish Canada’s parliament was more like the British one. I enjoy watching MPs there trashing their own leader in Question Period if they don’t like what he is doing.

    1. I have argued for a long time for your premise. The PRIME MINISTER is supposed to be a first among equals, not the ultimate authority.

Unfortunately our proximity to our American friends has led many to believe the PM is like a president and the PMO acts accordingly. Of course we have none of the checks and balances so the dictatorship goes unabated.

Now if the caucus finally stands up to Gerry and his puppet, or the GG actually acts responsibly (yes it is supposed to be more than ceremonial) then there may be some hope.

Okay, I know time to take the final sip from the half full glass and discard the rose coloured glasses.

  10. Sniffing the wind, noting the change, changing position. Liberals. How long before he’s out of the party? Did Trudeau not follow through on the promise of a big fat chunk of the Liberal corruption money?

      1. He’s going nowhere, he has the media in his pocket and is in the process of having the RCMP move en mass on the truckers.

  11. Just heard his English preamble. Lots of words to cover his ass. Fair enough. For him, in his position, such words provide a necessary shield. Then came the key part of the speech.

Anyone who doesn’t realize how brave/risky this is of him to speak against the thug, Trudeau, doesn’t understand what’s going on.

    1. Please explain to us rubes then, Robert, what is going on here? Will the Turd have him shot, or just kick him outta caucus like Pinky does, or just remove his portfolio? Tell us, what exactly is this guy braving, other than actually being forced to work for a living?

  12. Never heard of this guy before, but, so far, I’m surprised and impressed. Surprised because he’s from a riding that is not a lock for the Liberals (been won by the BQ, CPC and the NDP before, and he only won in 2015 with 34% of the vote), and also surprised because he is from the Liberal class of 2015, most of whom were absolute nobodies and got in on the strength of the Trudeau wave. The ones that remain still owe their seats to him. I’m impressed because he’s completely going against the narrative (ordinary people, from many backgrounds and ethnicities), and he also said that he was increasingly concerned and uncomfortable with the divisive rhetoric in the last election (guess where that was coming from?). Could be the start of something…

    1. I hate to say it but I understand it’s a 50/50 senate and the D from NM is in the hospital.

When the Senate is 50-50 the tie-breaking vote is the vice president. We’re too close to elections the last thing we need is to have her jump for a few months.

No more Jumping Jim Jeffords Who was bought with multi-millions of education money.

  13. The last time people were FORCED to take injections was under the NAZIS.
Hell if your going to adopt fascist policies; why on earth did you bother fighting the Nazis if you’re going to join them?

So much for “desecrating the War Memorial”; you idiots in Parliament forgot everything they ever fought for…Remembrance Day my ass.

And my greater family were among the “HUNS”.

“Lightbound also said demonstrators causing disruption and gridlock in Ottawa need to move, but their concerns need to be addressed.”

Trudeau is no “leader”; but a simple straight up fascist. One should have learned something from history but Trudeau senior was too busy wearing german helmets during WWII. 🙂

Oh you’re worried about “disruption and gridlock”; how about an entire nation sidelined and ignored for 2.5 YEARS?
And NOW you are waking up…what an absolute gong show!

You idiots in Parliament need to move your ass, and be quick about it!

    Cheers

    1. And more recently, the only time where people were forced to take “medicine” whether they wanted to or not was Jonestown.

    1. Dan Albas on the Twitter:
“The question PM Trudeau asked two years ago this month:

“Do we want to become a country of irreconcilable differences, where people talk but refuse to listen, where politicians are ordering police to arrest people…””

  14. Watching Fox this morning, parents Governors starting to notice and fight back, lifting mask mandates for children. Connecticut, Oregon, New Jersey and even Delaware defying Biden and will lift mask mandates for children starting next month or sooner. One frustrated but well spoken, questioning and observant Mom from Connecticut is noticing the different (No) mask mandates of States surrounding her and says correctly what they are doing makes no sense, Covid isn’t different in the next state. Her senior daughter has been repeatedly reprimanded by her teacher for not speaking loud enough…while wearing a mask!!! These people are insane. Including, I see, our Alberta Education Minister vs (Bowden) Students.

  15. “I hope there is room in the Liberal Party for dissent” — Joël Lightbound

    I soooooo hope’s he correct. Let’s see.

    1. “I soooooo hope’s he correct “… he isn’t… no one goes against the Family.

His career in the Turdhole Party is over.

  16. ” . . . a road map for the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions . . .”

Turn on the mic, say, “They’re over.”
    There, that was easy.

  17. I’ve noticed that when I bang my head against the wall, I get bruised. What I need is a roadmap to living a non-bruised life. Any ideas?

  18. I take it with a grain of salt. After all he’s a Liberal. Maybe is the reflex of the 1st rat jumping off Titanic.

  19. He’s a Liberal. He has said nothing since 2015 and was totally happy with his liberal paycheck and pension. He is not trustworthy. this press statement has as much integrity as a deathbed confession, and he’s a Liberal. They all suck.

  20. An end to all mandates is just the first step.
The next step must be investigations, trials and jail sentences for the assholes who did this to us. Without those, they’ll just do it again.

    1. I agree I want every single snivel servant and politician who advocated for vaccine passports and mandatory shots investigated for crimes against humanity.

    2. And we have to pivot too, and start attacking the “climate change” narrative. The WEF and their minions will be pivoting to that soon, as an excuse for bringing the social credit surveillance state right back.

  21. No we don’t need a road map, you’ve dragged the citizens around for two years forcing us to violate our own personal healthcare beliefs. I’m done listening to unelected snivel servants ordering Canadians around like they’re our masters. If I were the bloc I’d be scared, the truckers have done more to unify Quebecers with the rest of Canada than one single politician. End the mandates, and take your vaccine passports liberals and cons and shove them up your uppity arses.

  22. The first sign of a crack in the armour of a political party in power is a challenge to the leaders authority. Above all else the libranos value loyalty. Taking one for the team, falling on your sword are respected far above ethics, personal beliefs or even the wishes of your constituents. Party discipline is vicious and any sign of disloyalty is immediately pounced upon.

This maybe a one off, an outlier tired of the Bongs bullshit or it might be the start of a palace revolt. The backbench of nobodies have to be restless. They can’t get a hearing on any of their issues. This PMO is famous for not returning calls. The Bong is a person that doesn’t command respect. His best before date arrived some time ago.

If this is a legit undertaking by MP Lightbound and not a false flag setup expect immediate and harsh retribution.

    1. In my opinion nothing will happen. This move is too timid and Turdhole has ALL the controls. Let’s remember the SNC Lavalin/JWR scandal. That was much bigger and still there was no dent whatsoever in Justin Castro’s varnish. Since then he consolidated his control. And I strongly believe theIdiot pulled a Biden with his last election. He triggered that whole thing because he was sure he’s gonna have majority, everything was in place for a nice-good-ole’ fraud. Didn’t happen because Canadians voted in unexpectedly big numbers. But no pb for him, he controls Jagmeat, he controls Quebec through redistribution, he’s practically ~75%. That’s why I think this Liberal’s attempt will just go unnoticed.

    2. abtrapper, “His best before date arrived some time ago.”

From my jaundiced perspective, he never had a best before date. He was putrid from the get go!
Add to that his delinquent mother flounced around the world with a mattress strapped to her back, and his real daddy ran a communist country! His putrid step daddy just gave him a name he could parachute into politics with. He at least had some brains, the spawn has none.

  23. There is exactly no mention of Lightbound’s comment on the CBC.

No horror, No spin, No Nothing

Joel Lightbound, Liberal MP from PQ has been cancelled by the CBC.

    1. Top of The (Red) Star’s website. They got the memo and know what the “roadmap” is. Trudie’s a goner.

    2. Funny, I watched the whole news conference live on CBC Newsworld in real time. Followed by vigorous, honest interrogation by main news players. Don’t forget to turn to professionals when you want to find out what’s actually going on.

  24. The restrictions are so nonsensical, and Trudeau’s approach so divisive and hateful, I think some other Liberal MP’s are bound to follow Lightbound’s example. I certainly hope so. Trudeau really has to go if we are to move forward.

  25. While I’m encouraged, I keep remembering that he’s a Liberal and I just can’t fully believe or trust him.

He says ” the party has historically been open for dissent and different opinions.” I take the word “historically” to mean before 1968 (Trudeau Sr.) because it certainly isn’t now.

  26. I suspected something like this would happen.

In the end, all Liberals will protect their own interests.

It would not surprise me if there was a leadership review for Justin the Coward.

    1. The CBC ‘allowing’ discussion is the Organ Grinder prepping the plebes for Trudeau’s departure. He painted himself into this corner and no one is going to help him out. His charm is gone. Now for the LPC it’s time to repair the damage; they have no other choice.
Personally I think Pierre Poilievre scares the crap out of them. Certainly Trudeau is no match for him in debate.

      1. Justin is not match for a piece of construction paper in a debate.

Whatever happens, Justin is finished. There is only so much the CBC and Twitter can cover for and so much Big Global Domination will tolerate.

Look for more Liberal Party rumblings.

        Just my thoughts.

  27. Lightbound has just resigned as chairman of the Lib’s Quebec caucus.

“After having thrown a stone into the pond by accusing his own government of having divided society with its denigrating “tone” towards the unvaccinated minority, the federal Liberal deputy Joël Lightbound announced that he was leaving his post as chairman of the caucus of the Quebec federal Liberals.”

    https://www.journaldequebec.com/2022/02/08/dissension-au-plc-lightbound-critique-la-gestion-de-la-crise-sanitaire

Lightbound is MP for Louis-Hebert in Quebec City. Poilievre is about to make Liberals extinct again in Quebec City and environs, so Lightbound is getting out while the getting is good.

  28. Funny, I watched the whole news conference live on CBC Newsworld in real time. Followed by vigorous, honest interrogation by main news outlets. Don’t forget to turn to professionals when you want to find out what’s actually going on.

  29. A “white supremacist” has infiltrated the Turdhole Party, clearly.

    I blame the Russians… damn nazis. : )

Lightbound is aboot to be fitted with some cement galoshes. You never go against, the Family.
