Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Not impressed by the fancy socks and new hairdo, I guess.
Bring back Trade Negotiator Barney?
Not to gloat … but I told you so.
Byedin-Heiress is DESPERATE for $$$ to pay for their leftist spend-fest.
He probably asked Brandon to do it.
Par for the course.
Many things are Trudeau’s fault. The stupidity of American governments of various stripes on issues of trade is not among them.
True. Canada has to fight this through the courts and other avenues but the tariffs are as predictable as our forests are mostly public which plays into US protectionist arguments. Trudeau, even if he were aware of the situation and as competent as anyone else, couldn’t achieve any success.
We don’t really need to fight this at all though. The US is shooting themselves in the foot, that’s not our problem.
What Canada needs is unilateral free trade. If we really feel the need to goose lumber demand, end zoning restrictions and other restrictions on housing development and let immigration rip.

“unme screeches… let immigration rip”
ah, yes… the guy who sprang to the defense of fentanyl dealer maisum ansari…
“The only outrage here is the continued persecution of people for committing
non-crime such as drug dealing and owning [illegal] guns.”
*
That ought to help reduce US home prices. Thanks, Joe.
I particularly like the delicacy of almost, but not quite, doubling the tariff.
Canada is BAAAAAAACK, baby!
Emphasis on the BAAAAAAAAAA!
Justin, Chrystia, Joe, Kamala gonna
Build back better.
Gotta keep those trillions at home for USA jobs.
Any more pipelines to block/stop/blowup?
We’re from government, here to help!
“Canadians were promised a renewed relationship,”
And they got one!
And nothing to do with $0.80 cdn dollar…
It’s just another cost of insecure public forest tenure instead of private forest land. Other costs include endless consultations with Indians, endless attacks by US funded hysteria pimps who are always rewarded by provincial governments shrinking the land base available to forest management – all within a toxic sociology of conflicting and competing interests keeping politicians and bureaucrats employed while pretending to be looking after every species and interest group.
BC could eliminate all provincial debt by selling off the 22% of the province currently comprising the (public) timber harvesting land base leaving 21% of the province forested and outside of the net harvesting land base (BC is 57% forested including 4% privately owned). The province would save billions in annual debt servicing costs, the industry would be more secure, and immune from US protectionists arguments. It won’t happen of course, this being Canada, so US tariffs are just another groundhog day in Canadian forestry. On this file, the Spawn would be briefed by people who don’t even understand the situation so for him, situation normal. It is like letting a monkey play with a hand grenade.
Was Justin not persuasive enough?
What an idiot comment by Holly Doan. The tariffs have been in the works since May of 2021. It’s, also, a bonehead move by Biden, which seems to be his bailiwick. Essentially, most US softwood lumber is on private land. Most Canadian softwood is owned by your government. What this will do is increase demand in the US allowing lumber providers to increase their prices once again.
To be honest, I’m not sure how Biden can get a way with this since the WTO found in favor of Canada on a similar tariff issue causing the Trump administration to lower the tariff they put in place from 20% down to 9%.
Either way. The finalized tariff has nothing to do with the recent meeting between the two political hacks.
The only thing that is demonstrated is that the relationship between the US and Canada was not positively impacted by the meeting. Tariff increases went ahead as planned. Oh well, as Justin said “ it was a moral victory,” translated as we didn’t get anything we wanted.
Could China compromised Biden have asked Trudeau for better support in dealing with China and not received it because Trudeau is even more compromised with China than Biden?
There will likely be more bad news coming Canada’s way with respect to these two countries. Socialists are NOT your friend, regardless of what they may promise you.
Ascribing a market price “fairness” between lumber privately harvested from state owned land in one country vs. lumber harvested from all privately held and managed land in another did not trigger this tariff.
This is all about fecking people over and divisiveness.
Unlike re-stamped Chinese steel, this tariff can be interpreted as anti Canadian. An appropriate response here would be against the Biden administration but there is more likely to be an anti- American rally over this one. …. as planned.
Untrue. The US protectionists have used the argument against Canadian public tenures for the last 150 years. Its merits may be irrelevant, but they’ve always been there.
AC….. it was not long ago that I saw something about massive amounts of Canadian lumber sitting on the US side of the border while 2by 4 cost increased by ten times, with huge inventories sitting in rail yards. Maybe someone should actually do some looking instead of expecting a link to eliminate a wee bit of typing. The game is big and we are not players.
If the Baked Potato had any stones or spine…oh, wait.
BTW, Fransisco, thx for not linking to the MotherCorpse version of the story.
Isn’t that Trudeau fellow clever. He really knows how to kill a country and a society.
Just sell it to China and various other rising nation-markets.
Trade with China is less free than even Trump’s version of protectionism. They are not simply willing buyers. They want conditions, ownership, technology, etc. on everything so that you will be in no position to criticize the CCP. An example is that if you want to sell lumber they might agree only if you also sell them logs for their own mills.
And it was only a little over a year ago that the Dear Leader had a video conference call with Old Joe to congratulate him on his election win. Justin was fawning and toe-licking throughout, cheering the end of the Trump years. A lot of good that did for Canadians. Trump was actually much better for Canada’s economy than Dementia Joe will ever be.
“Trump was actually much better for Canada’s economy than Dementia Joe will ever be.”
No matter how hard you believe that, it will not be so. All the pipelines in the world don’t outweigh the negatives of putting a mentally ill tangerine fascist in charge of the world’s super power.
As spoken by the resident wannabe socialist…Ok then UnMe.
Funny that during 4 yrs of Trump:
Lowest unemployment – Ever
Highest wage increases
Kept N Korea from going ballistic
Def Kept China & Iran at Bay
Had a solid Afghanistan withdrawal planned
Had an excellent Southern Border Policy.
Had a Military worth talking about instead of the Woke dioshits now in the Joint Chiefs
But he’s the Idiot and Biden is the True Brain Trust….
Uhuh… what a Moronic Position… I’m guessing Kyle R is a KKK member who DEFINITELY KILLED 2 Black folk too in your fantasy world eh.??
And US was energy independent. Not begging OPEC for more.
Let’s not kid ourselves. The road to US energy independency was being paved before Obama even took power. He took credit for it in his second inaugural speech though.
Same with low unemployment. This should bottom in 2023 before all hell breaks loose for several years. I would not want to be the President in 2024.
” putting a mentally ill tangerine fascist in charge of the world’s super power.”
You prefer the dementia patient they have now? Americans increasingly do not…they would re-elect Donald Trump in a heartbeat.
Its a standard practice of the country’s PM’s to suck up to a new president in hope of softening him up for what ever.
As is evidenced by the recent past, the Americans don’t care, they are for some unknown, deeply secret reason, caring how could they take advantage, as Americans not necessarily president, for themselves.
After all their president is presumably responsible to the Americans.
Contrasting that with the idiot, he seems to take the responsibility of third world population and how to get them here in a hurry.
Of course he needs the taxes of the plebeians and the free enterprise to shower on the rest of the world.
Other than that he is not interested in the affairs of Canadians.
There are plenty of examples, all you have to do search for it, it will show up in hundreds.
You can tell he is a wannabe, in pursuit to lead this other corrupt organization, the UN.
“Trump was actually much better for Canada’s economy than Dementia Joe will ever be.”
It s not US president’s job to be good or bad for Canada’s economy. Little Fidel has been a disaster and there is no reason for US to treat Canada seriously (except maybe as a Chicom puppet to be subdued when necessary or convenient or when Old Bidet finishes his nap).
The fact that Trump was a great president or that Captain Alzheimer has an IQ of a slightly retarded turnip is a separate matter.
This is Act VI Scene Four of the well choreographed and scripted Softwood Lumber Dance. It’s been going on for decades. The fact that softwood was left out of Lyin’ Brian’s NAFTA deal back in the early 90s is a pretty good indicator that both sides recognized that some ongoing squabbling was necessary for partisan political purposes: finger-pointing and huffing and puffing.
Don’t we have a free trade thingy happening? That one Liberals back in the day opposed with such venom? So WTF?
An example of “Build Back Biden”.
I would be quite the hypocrite to brush this off when I was upset about Trumps steel and aluminum tariffs
Good thing I’m not a hypocrite.
I’m pissed.
“Good thing I’m not a hypocrite.”
ROTFLMAO
“Good thing I’m not a hypocrite.”
Not on this issue, no.
About the ongoing revelations of 2020 US election fraud, though, you most definitely ARE.
WISCONSIN 2020 ELECTION
Racine County:
– Over 23,000 voters registered using the same phone number.
– 4,120 people registered using the date 1/1/1918
Criminal charges have FINALLY been filed against 5 out of 6 members of the Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC).
(first of many more to come!)
Joe Biden does not speak for me. We are getting screwed on lumber prices.
US lumber lobbyists are much better than Canadian lumber lobbyists.
Even the Detroit Lions have a better record than Canada’s lumber lobbyists, they can at least pull of a tie once a year….
Drive through Idaho and see the loggiing roads
cut a quarter mile high , above drainage . Expensive.
Drive through Crown land forest and notice every Creek and river cut and crossed multiple times. Cheap. “Public” equals crappy forestry and worse fish habitat.
Silting the water and destroying salmon spawn. 20 years ago I remember the hue and cry over American “overfishing” .
No one says No to McMillan Bloedel.
Softwood? I thought we were talking about Trudeau’s head.
