Florida to shipping companies:
“Florida is where your success comes in, and our seaports are the solution to ensure the cargo shipping logjam doesn’t become the Grinch that stole Christmas,” said Michael Rubin, President and CEO of the Florida Ports Council. “Why pay to moor off the coast of California, when Florida shipping lanes are open and serving as the gateway for getting goods to America’s market,” Rubin said in a press release.

I love DeSantis…he continues to poke Washington scum in the gut.
How dare he come up with a solution when Psaki said they have a task force working on the situation.
But Petey Buttisgay, says they are looking at apprenticeships..Lol.. Shoulda stayed at the slurpramp .. Long term nonsolution to a JustinTime problem!
Good on FLORIDA..!!!
If you’re #30 or more in line?? A QUICK TRIP thru the Panama Canal may well be cost effective and off to Florida.. Done deal..!!
Also ships sitting off NYC

Asian cargoes are too big for the Panama Canal. It’s a long a trip around the Horn. The Suez has little spare capacity. Florida can have all the ports it wants.
Who told you Asian container ships are too big for the Panama canal? They can. They don’t do it now only because of economics, which might seem like a bargain now knowing you have to wait 30 days or more off the coast of California to be offloaded.
“The Panama Canal has increased the maximum allowable length for vessels transiting the Neopanamax Locks.
Since 21 May, the maximum length overall (LOA) for commercial and non-commercial vessels acceptable for regular transits of the Neopanamax Locks is 370.33 meters, up from 367.28 meters.
The increase means that now 96.8% of the world’s fleet of container ships can transit the Panama Canal, shortening routes and benefiting economies around the world, according to the Panama Canal Authority.”

Well there ya go.
Read up on the Panama Canal, it is not designed to handle direct shipping from Asia. It handles US east west coast cargo. The ships off Cali are not going to reroute thru the canal. The world’s capacity systems are not designed for significant shifts in burdens. NeoPanamax is about 13kTEU. Ever Given is 20K.
I’d say being able to handle 96.8% of the world’s fleet of container ships is pretty impressive. . But yeah, let’s hang our hat on the handful of monsters that aren’t able to pass through.
His premise is indeed incorrect, but I’m willing to bet the Panama canal is already used at close to capacity.
California – Democrat.
Florida – Republican.
We know who will get the jobs, just as in left/Quebec, biased Canada.
Bring in the Chinese gunships to blow a passage through the thickening ice in the Northwest Passage…
Could have a shitload of ‘free stuff’ as they freeze in the thickening ice and crushing hulls.
Ops, sorry Canada, didn’t see you there.
Canada, indeed the west in general, is paling to insignificance on the global stage. Now, Russia, China and India are fighting it out. Russia is already chasing Chinese fishing boats out of the arctic.
And let me guess … no Container ships will drag their anchors across an oil line laying on the seabed? You haven’t heard much about the oil leak that closed Orange Co beaches for ONE WEEK … now all cleaned up and back to normal.
Ohhhhhhh mommmmaaaaa …
I keep seeing references in the media about shortages of toilet paper due to the shipping congestion in California. It make no economic sense to source toilet paper overseas, especially with the number of mills in North America. Look at the packaging on your toilet paper. It clearly states (in Canada) “Made in Canada”. No one challenges the media on crap (pun intended) like this.
Our hospital in New Brunswick serves fruit cups from China. I can’t wait to try one that has been sitting in a sea container for an additional 30 days. Fruit cups from China FFS! Well why not? The Prime Minster is from China and he’s a fruit cup.
If you are buying fruit cups in Canada and maybe the US also they are probably produced in China,Thailand or some other country near them. I have tried fruit cups made by Delmonte and Dole and they are both sourced from that area. So now we buy fresh fruit and make our own.

Uh … I’m gonna call ‘bullshit’ on that comment. I’d say Pete’s Peter Principle was met at the Dept. of Transportation…
Awesome! Californians are going to eventually realize that you can’t tell money to fuck off then wonder where it went.
Now the California Democrats want to ban ships from anchoring off California coasts. They are introducing a law to demand they circle 24 miles off the coast instead. If you have to pay the crew and burn fuel, you might as well use it to get to an open port instead.
The only thing is the additional costs of transitting the Panama Canal twice, and setting up a new logistics handling organization in Florida at their ports. Are they cheaper than the delays at Long Beach? And are you closer to your markets in the East Coast and Midwest?
I think you’re still allowed to mow your lawn in Florida, too.
Here comes Santis Claus, here comes Santis Claus, right down Santis Claus Lane!
LOL
He sees you when you’re sleeping …
There’s always Canadian West Coast ports, although they’re not exactly idle at the moment.
