  1. Here’s a Hoover Inst. panel discussion of the Afghanistan debacle, between Naill Ferguson, John Cochrane, and HR McMaster
Fairly early into the discussion, Naill Ferguson refers to a spat between the late Richard Holbrook and Biden. Apparently Biden was anticipating a redux of the Vietnam withdrawal as long ago as 2010. At that time, he expressed indifference to the plight of women and to the plight of local allies.

Not that what I think matters, but personally a year ago, I would have leaned toward getting the hell out of Afghanistan, yet I believe I would not have objected to the notion of a presence like the US has in Kosovo, Bosnia…….. Was that even discussed at the time, or did the toxic environment, created by TDS, scuttle and corrupt any effort at a give and take bi-partisan debate of the pros and cons? One last thing, a key to this debacle is that the decision makers, believed their own lies, their own hype.

    1. Trump had arranged a withdrawal, in accordance with his promise to end foreign wars. Biden’s masters reneged on that deal and voila. Their running away from their fortified position and withdrawing the air support from their Afghan allied army could not have been more deliberately done to make the Afghan army give up.

  2. Curious to know what the impressions of the man on the street are in the UK and Europe? Are they outraged or are they dumbfounded?

    1. I can’t speak for them but what I see in the Central Valley of California is McDonalds is open and Krispy Kreem is giving away donuts if you’ve been vaccinated. And the grocery store shelves are full. If this changes and that tubbo I saw going into the grocery store can’t get her 3k calories things may change. Ssss awl gud right now.

  3. Here’s my thing with Conrad Black. His endorsement of Trudeau: “He’s ready and has earned his chance” still sticks in my craw like a fng sliver of chicken bone. Conservatives like me we’re at least counting on him to provide a response to what most with a brain cell knew was a vapid, empty suit running on his name and looks. Nope, not Conrad. So here we are a few years later. Same empty suit running roughshod over our rights and freedoms and “Connie” looking out from his ivory tower and thinking “Hmmm..yes, the plebes are so in need of my analytics”.
Sorry man, I have no time for those who get things so spectacularly wrong right out of the chute then spend the rest of their time trying to take it back.
You Effed up Mr. “Upper Canada College”. No do overs. Oh, so now you have an opinion on Joe Biden? Stand
    in line.

    1. Comrade Black is not well versed in economic theory. In fact he’s on the socialist left side of the continuum. For example, he writes glowingly of FDR’s accomplishments during the Great Depression years. According to Black, FDR single-handedly ended the depression with his policy initiatives. Not so. He was a PROGRESSIVE who prolonged the depression by introducing socialist policies that achieved the opposite of what was needed.

So, politically he favours people who are interventionists – people who do things for the sake of appearing to do something, even if the end result is unfavourable. The thinking is that at least he tried.

I honour Black for the wordsmith that he is. But his political acumen leaves much to be desired.

  4. Bang on Burton bang on. I too remember his endorsement of Trudeau, and I lost every ounce of considerable respect I had for Conrad black. Unforgivable.

    1. Conrad was only saving his but in endorsement of Trudeau.
      Doesn’t mean he means it.
In the crazy world of journalism(Ops, threw up in my mouth), your ass is fired and your shunned by our media moguls.
He’s still fortunate to still be able to criticize without being banned.

        1. The fool biden has just about guaranteed a rout in the midterms.

Seven months in and his presidency is in total collapse.

  5. Yup! I also remember Lord Blacknuts endorsing Shithead. How many votes did that get the fucker? Conrad doesn’t seem to realize that if Shithead could, he’d have one of his ISIS brothers cut off Conrad’s head.
Just last week he was saying how likeable Shithead was. WTF? Maybe he’s likeable for a narcissistic, passive-aggressive, faux-feminist, Canada-killing, blue collar loathing douche bag.

  6. His High Lordship, CON-rad of Double-cross Harbour, has a few things in common with Junior. Silver-spoon, elitist background. Unshakeable self-regard and sense of superiority. As has been stated, he’s your run of the mill economic ignoramus and big-government statist.

Never been impressed with him. He’s a buffoon. Are the pictures of his dress-up costume as Cardinal Richelieu still online? His lordly robes of state as an English peer? Oh, just thought of another thing he has in common with Junior.

Get stuffed, you logorrheic, pleonastic creep.

    1. you logorrheic, pleonastic creep

You’re not the only one to notice that.

  7. Black is a pundit. He has opinions and is a clever wordsmith. That is why he survives in a decreasing world of journalism.

His opinions are just that, his opinions. He is swayed by his own prejudices like all opinion writers.

Read them with a heavy dose of cynicism.

    1. Friends can disagree. Dr. Foth was a clever wordsmith, and much imitated by the less talented.

Conrad fell into the trap of the sophomore essayist thinking an obscure vocabulary proves one’s superior intelligence. He never got himself out of it.

      1. Fotheringham didn’t have Blacks command of the language. He was better than most of the Ottawa press gallery but that isn’t saying much. He wasn’t the historian Black is either.

Back in Foth’s day – no internet, lots of lubrication, Carlie Lynch was another of the old guard. I kinda miss those days.

  8. Well, regardless of what rewrote before, notwithstanding his astonishing endorsement of PM Shitferbrains, his recent Commentary is pretty much bang on IMO.

The Biden Admin has in 2 weeks Managed to irreversibly change/destroy the entire Western Security Apparatus… and the Wolves are not only circling, but sharpening their knives.

Look to Taiwan as likely the first regional country to fall by the ChiComs….while the Wokerratti led US forces will be stuck in gender bending classes and learning how to retrieve a vibrator rammed up their collective rectums.

What a clustetfuck…and as was so frequently stated: 1000% on the Plate of every fucking Never Trumper on the planet.
