  1. Heh. Terminally stupid, eh?

But nowhere near as bad as subsidies to the corn-sourced ethanol market.

  2. One big problem for the pot market is that cannabis is incredibly easy to grow and dry. So high prices by legal vendors or the black market moves people into self-supply.

I do not partake myself but I was given some seeds for free and the gardener in me felt compelled to grow them. Much to my suprise one of the plants had no skunk smell at all so it was allowed to live and be cloned. It’s actually an nice, compact, tropical looking houseplant and saves my pot smoking people lots of money. In Canada, growing four flowering plants is legal.

Will the government eventually prohibit home growing to help the legal market (and government tax revenue)?

  3. Ontario only lost $42 million in it’s first year of Cannabis operation, so for once California is doing worse than Ontario

  4. Voters of CA: Let’s legalize recreational pot use!

CA Legislature: OK! We’ll make sure to regulate the daylights out of the legal growers, because thinking up onerous regulations is one of the things we do best!

And what is the biggest problem? Legal businesses can’t get through the formal licensing process because of the regulatory requirements, especially the environmental ones. So the CA government is spending $100 million to help them get through the ridiculous process it cooked up with the assistance of the environmental lobby.

The CA Legislature is Exhibit A in the argument for biennial legislatures, or at least having set session periods that total only a few months out of the year.

  5. When the Canadian government first legalized medical pot they grew and sold it. They sold weed on credit and were shocked that nobody paid for it. Officially, they were stupider than California and California is so stupid. Selling drugs on credit without a hitman will always end poorly.

  6. While many businesses are in the dumps in Fort St. John, both the government dairy bar (as we used to nickname the liquor store) and the dope shops are doing well.

    1. Lots of pot shops here in Airdrie. Never anybody in them. Must survive off SoyBoys handouts. Who knows or cares. Thats one small business I hope goes tits up.
      Grow your own!

  7. “Put the government in charge of the Sahara Desert and in three years there would be a shortage of sand.”

    Milton Freidman, I think.

  8. My opinion clearly stated as such. Some very connected folks invested big money in legal pot. Their losing their shirts. Something must be done.

    1. Thudding Muff

All the weed dealers around here have cut the price, and sell pure Colombian, Mexican, weeds with no seeds.

Can’t find the Stock Symbol for Pot ? Ha.

  9. No different than this Virus BS. Take a disease with a survivability of 99.7% and general does not affect kids. And bankrupt the whole damn country and print money and hand it out.
None of them have the brains of a day old donkey

  10. They had me till: “Vlad Putin is a thug and a thief.”

No. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is the leader of the free world.

Anybody looking for thugs and thieves will find them among the bastards who bankrolled the campaign of Joe Biden. President Putin’s last bowel movement was bigger than Joe—and every other CCP puppet styling himself a leader of a “G7” country.

By what standard is Putin a thug? Chrystia Chomiak’s?

    1. DS,

Putin IS a thug and a thief. He kills, jails, and intimidates his political opponents. He grants government favors to enrich his cronies and supporters. At that, his behavior is no worse the 50% of the world wide governments in existence today, and no different than any European Ruler before 1700 and most for long after that.

Think of him as the uncrowned Czar Vladimir 1, and you will be able to understand his mind-set better. He is a RUSSIAN Nationalist, and he pays attention to the Russian Orthodox Church. To our elite and ruling betters, that is unconsciable.

      1. And He kills, jails, and intimidates his political opponents. He grants government favors to enrich his cronies and supporters. appears to apply more to Obama and Biden. I’m curious to know in which nation you think that rules are applied the most evenly across the political spectrum. What would be the equivalent to the never-jailed Antifa or BLM in Russia?

        1. C_,

I think the people pulling the strings of Biden, Harris, Obama, and 99% of the Democrat AND Republican Party Apparatchiks are not the friends of the middle classes, nor the poor and minorities. They actually represent groups that long term want to destroy the founding principles of the US Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, and return us to a more traditional Feudal, Peternalistic Society where they appear as the “Obvious Natural Superior Elites” and they control society for “The Greater Good.”

They know they are betterer, smarterer, more caringest compared to us schlubs in fly over land. Even when they are always, consistently, wrong and fail miserably whenever they try to make things better.

I can respect Putin because he is a Russian Nationalist, even if he is a thug and a thief. He was dealt a shitty hand of Post Soviet Russia, and is trying to turn a bankrupt, broken, demographically collapsing, drunken nation around.

There are No BLM or Antifa in Russia. Putin and his security apparatus do not allow them to exist outside or independent of the Russian State. They are either killed or subsumed by the Russuian State.

          1. Being a thug and a thief is pretty much a pre-requisite to being the leader of a nation. heck, it’s impossible to rule Moslems without an iron fist, let up just a wee bit and they go all Jihadi on ya, as Assad noticed.

        True Story.
Arafat and his Islamic Je had. Captured several Russian civilians for Ransom.
Before Russia could negotiate with Arafat, one of the Civilians died in captivity.
The KGB hunted down all the Terrorist’s and sent their families Care Packages with their heads and their Balls and Penises stuck in the terrorizers mouth.
Then notified Arafat he would be put in the smallest box they could find.

All prisoners’ were released, not just Russian, but German, British, and one American that didn’t even know he had been captured.

Vladimir Putin was top agent in the KGB.

      3. “Putin IS a thug and a thief. He kills, jails, and intimidates his political opponents. He grants government favors to enrich his cronies and supporters…”

        So, a Democrat then.

  11. Legal Pot is a huge social, mental and physical experiment, similar to the Prohibition of Alcohol at the height of the Turn of the Century Progressive Experiment.

Remember the Progressive Era? It brought Anti-Monoply Trust Busting, Scientific Advancement, and Medical Miracles. Electrification, Safe Sewers and Safe Water, Mechanized Transport and Farming. It also brought Bolshevism, Internationalism, the Horrors of WW1 including Chemical Warfare and mass industrial war, the US Income Tax, Direct election of US Senators, and Women’s Suffrage. IOW a lot of Good, and a Lot of Bad.

We will find out just how damaging Cannabis is to growing and developing minds of teenagers and young adults, when it is in widespread use for the next twenty years. Marijuana and Cannabis will be medically good for a few, relatively neutral for most, and very harmful for too many, especially the young.

Is it worse than alcohol, or opiates, or social media? We don’t know yet, but my money would say it will not be a societal improvement.

    1. ^^^100%^^^

We just buried (inurned) our son who started smoking marijuana in Jr. High. It did him no favors … to say the least.

Parents! Do EVERYTHING, and ANYTHING you can to stop your children from taking marijuana. You may be saving their lives.

      1. Kenji, my sincere and deepest condolences to and your family.
        Very sorry for your loss.

  12. Legalizing weed simply makes it easier for organized crime to make more money.

If I was in charge of organized crime I’d be spending a lot of money to put the pieces in place to get weed legalized.

And the next move will be other drugs.

    1. Hey Oz if you want to make whiskey in any amount to make a lot of money you’re gonna need a couple of city blocks.

You can grow 1 million bucks of weed worth in your basement every few months.

Clearly you didn’t think much about this before your comment.

  13. The red chinee have invaded my state of Oklahoma. They are buying 40 to 160 acre parcels in the county and setting up grow houses by the hundreds. Medical pot consumption and the growing is legal here. Law prohibits foreign ownership of land in Oklahoma. What happened? We have been sold out again.

  14. Meh. Now the argument is who should or should not be bailed out?
    Hint: No-one should be.
Lets start with the banks. As I see it, they now owe us taxpayers 100s of billions.

  15. All according to plan.

In the entire history of the USSR, through the bread lines, the toilet paper shortages, everything. The one thing they never ran short of or had to ration? Vodka.

The only crime, is being under medicated.

  16. Can’t they ALL lose?

Who agrees to smoke this skunk weed in the first place and then be taxed for it?

How does one f— up that particular product?

Lex Luther was right: send California into the ocean.

  17. I’m old enough to remember when legalized marijuana was going to bring-in $Billions in Tax Revenues.

But then again, I’m old enough to remember when the CA Lottery was going to “Fund our Schools” … and if we just spent enough $$$ we would solve the Homeless problem … and we could have a “clean, green, future” AND still run our air conditioners (cheaply) … and that we all WANTED a $500B + high-speed” (62mph) train to replace $49 flights between LA and SF

The immigrants to CA have totally WRECKED this place

  18. I’ve looked into growing Hemp (now legal) on my acreage in Texas. The requirements and registration are just a bit too much. You have to have your crop regularly tested for THC content. Anything above the threshold, your crop must be destroyed and you could face prosecution. I have zero interest in marijuana, but hemp has many uses and could be a profitable crop.

Almost like they legalized it, but with conditions so strict no one is going to bother growing it. Shame.
