Actors and those that teach drama, decided they could obtain a meal ticket by pretending to be something they are not.
Add to that, they are hiding something by pretending a virtue opposite their past sin.
For example, let’s say some politician demeaned those of a different race and accosted young women. They would likely take on the pretence of of some kind of social Justice advocate that found racism and “misogyny” everywhere, but mostly with those they disagreed with.

My late dear mom was Spanish born, born and raised in Valencia in southern Spain. The posted article mentions that millionaire Ms. Baldwin claims to hail from Mallorca, actually a small resort island just off of the Spanish southern coastline.
Mom once mentioned an old Spanish joke, from the 1930s, that Spaniards living in the south of Spain were “half Arab”, given that during the long Moor occupation intermarriages took place, but not so in the north of Spain. People in southern Spain are slightly dark skinned.
The point of all this is that, if the glamorous Ms. Baldwin was truly from Mallorca, she would have a mildly dark-skinned complexion like my late mom. Er, she doesn’t. And reflecting on my boyhood growing up north of Pittsburgh, what difference does ethnic origin make? My mom, in our conservative Republican small town, was treaded like anyone else. No racial obsession back in the 1950s.
Named, of course, after Sir Edmondo Hillaria.

I’ve watched the show on occasion in the last 40 or so years. I first did so soon after I was on my own and had cable TV and only because people I knew during my undergrad days raved about it. I didn’t find it funny then and I didn’t find it funny on the 2 or 3 occasions that I watched it since.
