L- Upon reflection on the large family gathering dinners for special occasions, during my childhood and youth. I am in awe of the level of skill & art of cooking acquired by the mothers, aunts, grandmothers and great-grandmothers of Canadian pioneer stock : turkeys, w/stuffing, cranberry sauce, cabbage roles, potatoes mashed by hand, vegetables sliced, home-made pickles, preserves, pies and old country recipe deserts. All ingredients were garden/farm fresh.
Whether produced for family celebrations, holidays or threshing crews, all was prepared with boundless energy and love. For those experiences and memories, may we be truly thankful.
