Most people have a “dopamine lollipop” and they lick it by repeating to themselves in new ways stuff that makes it release dopamine. Often it’s bigotry that makes them feel superior, things like “Trump supporters are all troglodytes and I am so much better than them.” or the like.
Bigotry doesn’t make a person feel low and mean, it makes them feel elevated and superior. It’s what allowed Archie to feel superior to Lamont. The thing is that there is no convincing a bigot that that is what they are doing, especially if their bigotry is enabled by the media, Hollywood, and TV. It feels too good to give it up. It’s. worse than heroine as far as addiction goes. It just seems right to them that they are one of “God’s elect” though they wouldn’t put it that way. You don’t have to be stupid to get caught in this trap. Smart people can often think of more elaborate justifications for what they are doing, while still ignoring contrary evidence.

It isn’t. They’re just lying.
No shortage of stupid in America, Canada or anywhere else for that matter. We are coming to a very violent end, why? Because people no longer have the ability to think critically or rationally.
I suspect that the actual problem is not an inability to think critically or rationally, but a steadfast refusal to comprehend, let alone accept the concept of “CONSEQUENCES”, intended and otherwise.
There is also the rather perverse notion that if they find themselves waist-deep in “unintended” consequences, that “someone” will bail them out and let them go on their merry way.
