  1. Honestly, who has time to listen to an hour of rambling? There are a zillion podcasts these days, you have to pick and choose, and I doubt he says anything groundbreaking. Next time, just post the transcripts, I can read an hour show in five minutes or less. If there is something there it will stand out, and if there is no transcript then it’s just some old guy named Ezra sitting on a porch playing checkers, spitting tobacco, and speaking his mind.

    1. So find 4 like-minded people and take turns making the transcripts. That way you get to read 80% of them with no work yourself, at the cost of an hour or two of your own time when it’s your turn to type.

Oh, you want someone else to do all the work for you for free? Hmm, there’s a term for takers like that… what could it be?

    2. Someone suggested … last week, I believe … that you can speed up Scott Adams videos to 1-1/2x normal speed … which makes him … “sound a bit more exciting” (and you can get through the video in about 3/4 time). He is a bit of a slow-talker. I’ve heard it said that’s something of a “California accent”.

I am a much faster reader than average, so that is my preference for absorbing material … despite being raised by the Television. I believe I kvetched about that … ONCE … on these pages. That’s enough. Kate delivers so MUCH great content that I would never dare double-down on my … preference/criticism. I trust her when she says something is special, and warrants her sharing. Be it a video blog, or a 500 word Tweet.

  2. WTF?

I suppose I should apologize for NOT TAILORING MY FREE CONTENT TO SUIT YOUR PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS.

I’m about this >< close to banning your ip, and the only thing stopping me is the knowledge that I've had two hours sleep in the last 36 and am probably a bit crankier than usual. But if you come back to find out you can't access the site have the decency not to email to complain about it.

    1. Those of us who have enjoyed this truly fine and intellectually satisfying blog for a very long time know that if Kate posts a comment like this it is because she has been pushed to her limit.

Sourly complaining because you want the transcripts to a podcast that Kate recommends is very petty and selfish.

    2. Suspect that post has more to do with discouraging others from watching excellent entertaining content dealing with subjects they want suppressed.

  3. I’ll have to catch Mr Dilbert later tonight, as I usually do. Yes, like any daily blog post, Scott can ramble on sometimes, helps me to sleep.
But he’s very insightful and has his pulse on the nonsense in the US, and he doesn’t always like Trump’s actions or statements.

    1. I find his signal-to-noise ratio to be rather poor, in my humble opinion.

So I appreciate when Kate highlights a higher signal episode of his podcast.

  4. I happen to agree with IJ on the merits – I find most podcasts that aren’t explicitly about the performance to be five minutes of information packed into two hours – but if there’s no transcript I just punt it to an AI subtitle generator. Works well enough.

Also I’m not entirely certain what banning someone’s IP address is going to accomplish in 2020; no residential Internet connection uses static IPs.

  5. Keep up the good work, Kate. (Almost) everyone appreciates you and your work. The few that don’t can go somewhere else.
I, for one, am a fan.

    BTW, I enjoy Scott Adams.

  6. Scott Adams explains how teachers unions are the biggest part of systemic racism in the US.
Nuggets like that make 40 minutes (1.5x speed) of YouTube mining well worthwhile.
