As for the idea of the Magna Carta granting rights, I disagree. The rights in the Magna Carta were already considered ancient. There is not formating of clauses, no enumeration, it looks like a grocery list. Britain being an island, it was somewhat isolated from continental conflicts and thus the locals were always able to maintain some rights and freedoms. I view the Magna Carta more like employee counselling forms than a constitution, and the circumstances around it were more like dragging King John to HR and letting him know that any further misbehavior would result in termination.
The government can not grant you rights you would already have if the government did not exist, it can only agree not to infringe on certain preexisting rights. Out constitution does not even do that, it contains a list of provisions and reasons and whimsical notions to provide a pretext for government to trample on well understood and ancient rights.
I’ve had about three HD’s just “die”. One of them had thousands of our digital pictures on it – pictures we’d deleted off our cards because ‘we had them saved somewhere else’. From then on, the first thing we do when we get back from a trip is to burn all our pictures to DVD, before we clean-up and edit any of them.
And I back-up religiously, and replace my hard drives on-spec ~every three years. Ain’t computers wonderful? But I WILL NOT save anything to Cloud – these things are my property, not the property of whoever is running the Cloud.

All my GrumpsPhotos.com stuff is backed to the mirrored drive, mirrored means the drives are split and stuff is copied to both sides equally. This is then backed to the 4 TB standalone. So three copies of everything.
Laptop and desktop both backup to the mirrored drive weekly (or on demand), which backs up to to the stand alone daily.
Increases the work time on a photo, need to download to the computer to manipulate and upload again after. But worth the effort.
I believe “individual rights” is a thought crime in Canada.

1. Make sure the same commercial is mind-numbingly repetitive;
2. Make sure the pro-gay commercial runs for a very long time.
3. Watch cable TV connections fall.
So any sane tv viewer, watching FOX News or CNBC News, has to sit through the mindless ad dreck. Rogers, btw, has been experiencing a steady drop in its stock price.
Has anyone been following the Conservative leadership race of late? Are there any real conservatives running? My fear is that Peter Mackay will win the nomination race. Remember his phrase “rotting corpse of social conservatism” — a phrase which guarantees I will never vote CPC with him in charge. With Makay in charge, the CPC will lose big time. The winners? The Wexit party and the PPC. And the Liberals.
MacKay has this habit of qualifying his positions so as not to offend anyone, particularly those that will never vote for a conservative. He even goes as far as agreeing with the progressive talking points to curry favour within the ranks of the progressive left.
Take a page from the Trump strategy, a leader has to not only stand firm in the face of criticism, they also have to make a public example of political hacks posing as legitimate critics at the earliest opportunity.
At the first presser they need to point to the CBC journalists and call them fake news so that they have to air that sentiment.
It will upset the press gallery yes, but to the voters the media has lied to for decades they will be seen as a champion.

Export Development Canada charges fees to their exporting clients so losses should be recovered from continuing business. Did the government finance the export of diamonds to a Nigerian prince? Presumably they perform due diligence and the whole point is to assume risk and spread it over a large clientele but $200 million is a lot of eggs in one basket.
