      1. If she protected her own music through copyrighting it first, then they couldn’t have done what they did without consult and approval. As it stands I’m willing to bet they own the copyright to her music.

        1. She did copyright it. Then she approved selling it to a publisher. Now the owner has resold it, as is its right. She isn’t complaining about the original sale, which made her rich and famous, she is complaining that she wasn’t a party to the resale, which she wasn’t a party to, because . . . she isn’t a party to it, having sold it.

“As it stands I’m willing to bet they own the copyright to her music.”

Well duh. That’s the point. Paul McCartney doesn’t own Yesterday, because he sold it. He does, however, although he didn’t write it, own Tomorrow, because he bought it. If you put your “art” on the market, it gets marketed. If you aren’t happy with that, don’t sell your copyright and keep trying to peddle it yourself playing bars and block parties.

          1. Leftist artists believe they own something, long after having sold it. For big bucks.

Remember how some progressive bands demand that right wing politicians do not use their music at rallies? (Despite those same bands having placed their music for sale on a market.)

The sad thing is, most righty politicians would back down. I think Trump was one of the first that said “I paid for it, so zip it”. The media were flabbergasted.

      2. They couldn’t have done what they did unless they had the ownership of her music. Despite her emotionalism that’s probably the reality. Or they would be committing an illegal act. She was asleep at the wheel and they took advantage of it.

        1. “Or they would be committing an illegal act.”

So illegal in fact that the act wouldn’t have been possible in the first place.

“She was asleep at the wheel and they took advantage of it.”

She was a kid who wanted to be rich and famous and they took advantage of that. They did, however, actually make her rich and famous, which she took advantage of them for. Now she is an adult with more than a decade in the business pretending to be ignorant and aggrieved. It isn’t a good look.

    1. Her father sold her copyrighted music for money. The new owners have no responsibility to ask her about her feelings about anything. She is no longer in the equation. She needs to talk to her dad about selling her music, not her fans.

When you buy a used car from someone, do you need to call them later to ask about how they feel about how you are using their former car?

  1. Online: “Swift’s net worth was an estimated $360 million”

    I’m sure she’ll survive. Here’s the world’s smallest violin …

    1. But … but … a “man” promised her he’d treat her well and always do well by her. He promised! … when she was 15yo (what role were her parents playing in her early music contracts?).

Hey Ms. Swift! Yeah, and my first wife swore she’d love me forever in sickness and in health … then cleaned out our apartment with no warning and no cause (we never had so much as a serious argument). She changed her name from Linda to Mahalia … and moved in with her new and improved boyfriend. Shit happens, you winey multi millionaire. So now you HATE men, and only women came to your aid. Sounds like material for a new song … except you’ve already written that one … 100 times (your “Art” is rather repetitive) .

Despite my own massive disappointment with my starter wife … I didn’t blame “all women” for being conniving, lying, bitches (like you appear to be doing with all men). I learned from my mistake and moved on. Sadder at first … but wiser. I suggest you take a lesson and move on.

  2. These people have been screwing over musicians and artists for almost a century. It’s nothing new , and it has nothing to do male patriarchy or whatever the hell she’s calling it. Only greed. Swift thinks she has it so bad then perhaps she should go and talk to the remaining members bands like Badfinger. Or Queen in their early days. Or Little Richard, etc, and hear their stories.

    1. Creedence Clearwater Revival never got a dime in royalties from their recordings. John Fogerty skewered those responsible in one song from his album Centerfield.

      1. Yup, and that one song got further screwed over when Zaenz (sp?) made Fogerty change the lyrics to “Vanz Can’t Dance”.

BTW, John Fogerty is a prickly bugger, and was one even pre-CCR.

        1. I heard that the reason the name of the character was changed was to avoid being sued by the individual being lampooned in the song.

        1. No doubt … they were done horribly wrong.

But where are Marc Bolan’s millions … ? Part 1.

Hard to believe, but I am a huge T-Rex, glam rock, fan … ha! me! The straightest, most cisgendered definitively male pronoun bearer in the world. Must be my latent tendencies, eh? Nope. Just admire the creativity and unique pop sound.

And I have virtually every vinyl record ever made from Credence and Badfinger music.

  3. “Toxic male privilege in or industry”? She made and makes her money off selling herself to young girls and men. I had to stop listening then.

    1. I know I’m going off topic here but it’s a fluff topic anyway. I’m wondering, how many billions of views might Ann Wilson, Karen Carpenter, Aretha Franklin had if You Tube existed when they were at the heights of their careers? You know, pop/rock women singers whose voices weren’t digitally processed six ways from Sunday?

  4. Welcome to the world of the tribe, baby! They yearn for the “good old days” of their Messiahs – Lenin and Stalin!

  5. I hate that … like … when you sell something … and like … you don’t own it anymore…

    1. Seems to me that the entire Beatles catalog was sold to Sony music? Did I miss the part where McCartney sobbed into a microphone ?

However … in response to a change in US music copyrighting law, intended to assist original ‘black’ artists … who’ve been screwed harder than Taylor’s girlfriends have ever scissored her timbers … who lost control of their music to greedy, talentless, monsters.

With this change in law … Sir Paul McCartney sued Sony music. Good and hard.

      https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/7662519/beatles-catalog-paul-mccartney-brief-history-ownership

His lawsuit was settled out of court 6mos. later. You cannot imagine Sony would settle had they not feared losing BIGly. They hardly wanted to see a brand new music publishing precedent set with a loss to the most beloved musician in the history of beloved musicians.

  6. Another poor little rich girl….

    Entertainment, politics, business, athletics…

    Filled with poor little girls.

Maggie Thatcher would kick them in the arse.

  7. Who cares about some SSJW singer? She was useful to them for a time, now she is less so. So they are taking some liberties. She will never take any advice from me, and she will probably never choose allies/friends/partners any differently…

  8. Scott Borchetta made her a star and she cashed hundreds of millions of his cheques as payment for her work. How stupid can one person be. She is no victim. Her fans are her victims. Why would she expect Borchetta to give away his investment for nothing? Why didn’t she pull out he chequebook and make him an offer? Nobody forced her to sell her work.

    1. Her father sold it before she was old enough and bitchy enough to complain about it.
Her father is bad male person in this story.

      1. Huh? I missed her mentioning his name. Seems this is a family squabble … which should be kept private. By people who actually have “class”. She’s more interested in her “image” than “class”. Her “image” as a poor little preteen girl done wrong by some meanie. Oh wait! That’s every song she’s ever written! Imagine that?

  9. So did she actually name Soros as a bad man? Whoa there, Taylor, you’re playing with fire now. She will get a visit in the night. I’ll wager that she will recant that statement in very short order, and somehow blame it on men like Donald Trump.

    1. Grock. I’ll take that wager. You donate $20 to Kate if Taylor doesn’t somehow walk back soreass bad guy comment. I donate $20 if she does. 30 day time limit. Bet?

Apologies to Colonista for stealing his idea.

  10. Willi sold the rights to mega hits ‘Crazy’ and ‘Nightlife’ for $50. I’ve never heard him bitch about it.

Traylor Swift took the tree outa country.

  11. I’ve often sold shares at what I thought was a reasonable price, only to see their value go even further. For example, I bought CP Rail somewhere, as I recall, in the $30 – $40 range and it didn’t do much for several years. (Meanwhile, I collected some decent dividends.)

After a new management took over, the share price rapidly went up and I sold at $100 because I didn’t think it would go much higher. Had I had my crystal ball handy, I would have seen that it would eventually go well over $150. OK, so I didn’t make as much money as I could have on that deal, but the fact remains that I got a good return on my initial investment. As one business writer put it, you can’t go wrong by taking a profit.

She should stop whining as she got some decent cash out of the deal. If she wants to prevent this situation from happening again, she should create something new and more of it, but make sure she has better control over what happens to it. Learn from your mistakes, madame, and move on.

    1. The old saying in the stock market … “pigs get fat … hogs get slaughtered”. You can’t ever regret taking a profit … lest you end up holding worthless paper like after Clinton’s .dot.con stock market collapse. Shoudda sold off in early 2000

  12. She’s really not doing much to dispel the “misogynist” notion that women don’t have a head for business, is she.

  13. She has a problem with a man, calls it toxic masculinity. Basically throwing all men under the bus. Freck her.

  14. I wouldn’t believe a word she says. She made her large fortune from teenage girls and knows her market very well. She’s a hard-boiled businesswoman.

  15. Using her considerable fan base to apply pressure in order to try to renig on a deal is unethical.
