      As a critic of rcmp doing municipal policing I smell a rat with the announcement of 300 additional members. Can the rcmp even fill a troop these days? Are they putting 2 troops a year through depot? Young guys aren’t flocking to the rcmp for a career in policing.

      I read that in BC the rcmp has about 30% of staff off on stress leave. Every time there is a ‘crisis’ members are pulled out of detachments across the west leaving local policing in the lurch. What I’m getting at is the rcmp on any given day can’t fulfill the obligations they already have on their plate. Where (how?) are they going to provide additional staff? Over what time period?

      I know the AB government is under pressure to deal with rural crime. I would have preferred a different option to the rcmp. A new modern police college to train local police would have been my choice with perhaps an expanded roll for existing municipal police forces to do some rural policing.

      This announcement just kicked the can down the road. A expanded rcmp is not the answer. An Alberta Provincial Police Force is.

      1. Ralph Klein built a modern police college and started the Sheriff’s program. They already work with the RCMPee. Phase out the make work for easterners RCMPee program ramp up the Sheriff’s and hire all Albertans. No more making work for Quebecer’s and Easterners.

    No comment on whether the government plans to “leave the fields fallow for 2 years” and eat only natural fruit (I googled jubilee). But starvation would be an effective way to reduce debt.

  22. I guess Blackie’s CTV feels left out. The Unifor journalists at CTV have joined Blackie’s CBC to rant all day that Canadians are racist bastards. And now union news in Ontario. NDP leader Comrade Horwath refuses to answer questions about one of her socialist MPPs speaking to people with a sign saying Fuck Doug Ford. Horwath did agree with the unions that Ford should give teachers everything they want before resuming talks. Meanwhile Unifor journalists fresh from their regional Unifor conference with teachers unions, tore apart the Education Minister at today’s news conference. The unions are also upset that the Education Minister goes before the media so much. Just ignore that Post Millennial reports that the high school teacher’s union has spent over 325 thousand dollars on Facebook ads trashing Doug Ford. This of course doesn’t include all the TV ads.
