        I was going to post Marie & Tonio’s duet “No Longer Can I Doubt it” from “The Daughter of the Regiment” (La Fille du Regiment) maybe someone can post it. This comedic opera is very entertaining and there is a semblance with Gilbert & Sullivan’s style. Just heard and saw most of the musical pieces tonight! Great story about tomboy Marie. Pavarotti is brilliant.

        1. I have a great deal of respect for Pavarotti but he was never a favourite. I always found him to be more of a “technician” than an “artist.” Joseph Calleja’s “Nessun Dorma,” had me in tears; Pavarotti never could elicit that kind of emotion from me.

          I do, however, love his “Un di, se ben rammentomi” and “Bella figlia dell’amore” from Rigoletto. Great fun!

          2. Calleja is one of the current generation of tenors and he’s quite popular with audiences, as is Juan Diego Flores.

            I’ve heard them both on the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and they’re good.

          3. When Pavarotti was in his prime, 30 – 40 years ago, he had no equal. Towards the end, though, his voice started giving out, something that happens with many singers.

            His popularity with audiences started waning as well. For one thing, he made that dreadful movie during the 1980s and then he split with his wife.

            He redeemed himself when he, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras teamed up as the Three Tenors, starting with their initial concert for the 1990 World Cup.

    3. Recent news has it that Justin Trudeau is going to duck out of two English-speaking debates — the Munk and Maclean’s debates — and possibly a third French-speaking debate. He is officially scheduled to attend the two “official” debates, debates stacked with pro-Liberal sycophants doing the questioning. I am sure Gerry Butts was in on the decision. But it is a bad tactical decision. Even with the corporate media cartel solidly Liberal, it won’t look good. And shutting Maxime out of the debates makes things worse. It will be interesting to see if the corporate media cartel attempt to sanitize what is shaping up to be a farce.

    2. Sort of reinforces what I believe the issue of the next campaign will be.
      There is a majority of eligible voters that have never cast a vote. These are usually referred to by pollsters as “undecided” as if they haven’t decided which of the choices on the ballot they will eventually cast their ballot for. The expectation of the pollsters is that these voters are going to hold their nose and do as their told. The reality is that these voters are convinced that none of the politicians will do what they promised and will only work for those inside the Ottawa bubble. What they are waiting for is someone that while they may not improve life for them, what they will do is make life a living hell for bureaucrats, lobbyists, and the usual collective of courtesans in the press gallery that inhabit Ottawa.
      That great swath of voters want to send a big FU to Parliament Hill.
      That is the question for the election

      I’m not against immigrants; I’m against “gimmiegrants”. And I expect the newcomers to make the same commitment to Canada as my grandparents did. I want citizens of commitment, not citizens of convenience.

    1. I disagree with the candidate’s personal stated abortion statements but with the PPC as a member we can bring in abortion issues that the PPC will have to deal with and there is already a coalition about late term abortions that I know of for now.
      In the end there are no taboo subjects with the PPC but it will come down to a vote at a convention in the future.
