It seems so long ago that there were guarantees which came with certain behavior.
If you ran from the police, you were likely to get spanked like a disobedient child.
If you fought with the police, you were booked via an ER visit.
If you killed a policeman, hmmm.
These guarantees had no effect on the behavior of decent people, but they struck fear in the hearts of predators. These guarantees, though they seem unnecessary, provided order instead of chaos. They kept the wolves in far fewer numbers and at far greater distances from the flock.
Those guarantees and those days are gone. The men who imposed those guarantees are quiet and vanishing. Those same predators are no longer fearful. They are bold. Hell, even the insipid, sarcastic, smartphone-wielding, cop-hating twerps aren’t scared anymore.
The post-secondary educational system isn’t much different.
When I was an undergrad, back in the Jurassic Era, the prof ruled supreme. Most of us back then didn’t have a problem with that.
When I started teaching, I was shocked at how things changed. My students often believed that they could boss me around (“I’m paying your salary.” No, you’re not, kid.) Fortunately, my department head at the time was an old WW II vet who served on U-boats, so he knew a few things about how to handle situations like that as well as how people behaved.
When he retired, he was replaced by a climber. He was someone who thought he was destined to be dean and would do anything to advance himself, even if it meant throwing someone under the bus to look good to his masters. The result was that he would, more often than not, side with the students in a dispute, even if I was right. He was afraid of any unfavourable comments from students which might hurt his chances at promotion.
He wasn’t alone in the latter aspect. I taught service courses to other departments and most of the respective heads were the same. Some were that way because they were close to retirement and didn’t want any hassles during their final years. Others didn’t want the reputation of being tough guys lest it scare away potential applicants.
Having my authority eroded over the years was one reason I eventually quit. There was no point in doing anything if I wasn’t allowed to enforce discipline and didn’t get any support from my superiors.
Many LEO’s are more concerned with “employee safety” than doing the actual dangerous job. To stay safe but still appear to be the “tough cop” they pull on a mask, take off their name tag, and kick in the door of a regular citizen with weapon drawn and proceed to beat down the person, his wife, and his kids and maybe shoot the barking family dog for good measure. Ask them to do that to an Antifa thug on the streets or native protestors blocking a railway and they’ll sit in their car sipping their Tim’s in the name of “employee safety”.

I agree. Police should be a sturdy prop to the law-abiding, the weak and the elderly, but a merciless scourge to the ungodly.
Some of them just need to be dead.
Our most outspoken critics are preventing the punishment of evil and emboldening those who would cause evil to flourish. Most of them have never been in a fight themselves, but they are like jackals. They are loud and they are winning. They use our own unrealistic restrictions to hamstring law enforcement’s efforts to maintain order. They know what they are doing. Never underestimate how much they hate you. Never underestimate how much they hate this country.
Let me add that we have been slowly but surely doing away with the death penalty. I honestly do not recall reading the overwhelming opinion poll that would champion such a change. Even here in the leftist sanctuary State of a loony bin – CA … the vast majority of the population still favors the death penalty.

In my eyes, the many of the problems with police are of their own making. I can go to YouTube and find thousands of cases of police lying or enforcing laws they make up on the spot. And there are endless cases of cops over-reacting to average citizens turning nuisance offenses into criminal offenses and so many videos show a dozen cops showing up for a black person showing suspicious activity which usually means walking in a white neighborhood.
I would never hold a cop responsible for his judgement in a violent situation unless he shot someone 8 times, most of these shots while the perp was twitching on the ground, for the crime of brandishing a 2 inch pocket knife while directly threatening no-one, like that Toronto cop.
