What about being snubbed for the Order of Canada?
“I will never ever get the Order of Canada, Hockey Hall of Fame or any of that stuff. But the policemen like me, the soldiers like me and the firemen like me and that’s very important to me. Very important.”

canada… it ain’t what it used to be…
“• MONTREAL • A man is dead after a violent street brawl in Montreal
involving about 20 people in the Villeray neighbourhood Saturday
evening just after 9 p.m.”
no description of a single person from this platoon sized mob.
you can smell the “professional journalism.”

A confident man does not need others to like him to feel good. A wise one does not assume without evidence that large swathes of society do like him. An even wiser one does not care to be popular among cops in particular.
Don Cherry doesn’t need to be confident nor does he need to be wise, he’s a walking talking display of both.
Some may disagree, but I for one see him as a canadiana icon, he represents a ROC (rest of Canada) (1950’s) British-Canadian cultural heritage that the Socialists and the Fwench Dear leader Tru-Castro denies and denigrates.
The left hate him, which in my book makes him a hero, warts and all.
I second that motion. He is important to the important people.
The Order of Canada has been prostituted to be a political payoff tool for the left, much the the Nobel prizes are.
Who would want an Order of Canada from Trudopes Liberal government?
Other than crazed leftist liberals…
Badge of honor by not getting one.
W in A, Cherry does not need the order of Canada, it is like an award given to house league hockey players, everyone gets a trophy. Those with any integrity would refuse to accept the order of Canada.
100% agree.
Don Cherry..a NO BS guy that talks straight.
Imagine that..?
Love him..

says the knucklehead who defended
the right of canada’s largest seller
of carfentanil… right, unHinged?
“The only outrage here is the continued persecution of
people for committing non-crime such as drug dealing
and owning [illegal] guns.”

NEO….if I am not mistaken this POS is the brother of the Danforth Shooter. 42kgs of that garbage would have been enough to Anihilate each and every human in the GTA…
Terrorism… Gosh no..!!
They have “so much to offer” Canada.
‘scuse while I upchuck….
UNME
SHUT UP YOU STUPID TROLL
Nor should a man who receives a Nobel Peace Prize for accomplishing nothing of any substance whatsoever … derive any satisfaction from the fawning trophies of elites. Nobel Prizes have been completely devalued. Oscars are a joke.
I would dare say the adoration and respect of the general public, friends, and family, are the ONLY legitimate measure of a man’s life. Not the devalued prizes bestowed by elites upon their fellow elites. Don Cherry has got it EXACTLY correct. A life well lived, Don.
Hey Max:
Champion Grapes for an Order of Canada.
Sure vote getter.
Cherry isn’t in the running for an Order of Quebec or an Order of Sweden either. Morganthaler got the Order of Canada for doing a good job killing babies. I thought it was tainted but if he wants one he sure has earned it.
Good for Don. Why he would want to join a club that had Morgentaler as a member is beyond me.
Better, far better, to be honoured by good, decent people from sea to sea for making life in globalist-occupied north America a bit easier to bear.
God bless and keep Don Cherry all his days, and woe to all who will him ill.
I have watched Don for many years going back to the old E.P.H.L Sudbury Wolves . Can’t say I ever saw him on the ice but I think he had a cup of coffee with them . Don is old school and for that a lot of the younger generation may have a hard time relating to him . One has to admit that anyone who can annoy the political left as much as he does can’t be all that bad .
Don Cherry is a Canadian Icon.
His plain-speak about hockey and life are timeless. He swings a steel gauntlet of common sense and honour to the pursed champagne-sipping lips of the leftist elite’s contrived political correctness.
His rewards and praise will be fully seen when he passes to the afterlife.
The Order of Canada comes with too many rules to ever be given to Don Cherry. Notice how many O of C’s have been taken back for mostly un-pc activity on the part of the recipient. It must be the only civil award on the planet that can be revoked for saying nasty things or getting pissed and driving a car.
Note Obama ‘s Nobel Peace Prize has not been revoked even after his massive failure to promote peace or anything remotely resembling that condition? Or Al Gore’s for his incredible fraud ?
Cherry’s O of C would last until the next episode of Coach’s Corner when he’d blast some slackass Swede for not doing his part. Without Cherry, HNIC might as well shut down CC,as the other pc guys on the intermission shows sure as hell wouldn’t be as entertaining, with the possible exception of the cantankerous Brian Burke.
Maybe his sartorial flair is holding him back!
Who is this NEO and why is he commenting?
Always found Don Cherry annoying. Actually there has not been anyone on HNIC who wasn’t annoying. Always an amateurish broadcast. Foster Hewitt sounded like fingernails on a blackboard. Howie Meeker was creepy as was Dick Irvine.
Foster Hewitt was absolutely dominate on Radio… Without Foster hockey could have been NOW competing with Darts.. It was not CBC that are credited with promoting the Broadcasting of Hockey…..Foster was not as good on TV….and the BS of Sports reporters…
Don Cherry looks like a Clown in his chosen garb, but he knows Hockey and it may be offensive to some Fans to realize that Goal-tending really wins most Games…
Suck it up
So, you liked Danny Gallivan, known for colorful descriptions and the inventor of new words like:
From Wikipedia:
“cannonading drives”; saves were “scintillating”, “larcenous” or “enormous” rather than merely spectacular; and, after a save, pucks tended to get caught in a goalie’s “paraphernalia” (goalie equipment). If the goaltender made a fantastic or impossible save, he would refer to it as a “hair raising save” or that the goalie “kicked out his pad in rapier-like fashion” to foil a “glorious scoring opportunity”. He would use words such as “anemic” to describe an ineffective offence or powerplay. He also coined phrases like “nowhere near the net”, when a shot would go wide, comment that “there has not been a multitudinous amount of shots” to describe a game with a “dire dearth” of shots on net, would mention that a defenceman was “wasting valuable seconds in the penalty” when he was ragging the puck, and would almost always announce, “and the penalty has expired!” at the end of a penalty. Passes from the corner and through the crease area would always feature Gallivan shouting “centred right out in front!!”. Players were also known to “dipsy-doodle” with the puck or come out of their own zone “rather gingerly”. When a university professor wrote to Gallivan protesting that there was no such word as “cannonading”, Gallivan wrote back: “There is now.” The ultimate Gallivanism was another word he coined: the “spinarama,” which described a player evading a check or deking a defender with a sudden 180- or 360-degree turn. Its chief practitioner was Montreal Canadien Serge Savard so that the move was also known as “The Savardian Spinarama”. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary now includes an entry for “spinarama”.
Me Too! He was Mr Saturday night!
Why would anyone want the Oder of Trudopia in the first place… any club that has Peeair, old Cretch, Morgantaler etc. can shove their award up their collective arses… Cheery should consider himself lucky to not be part of that odious club.
I spent over 2 hours talking hockey with Don way back. He is exactly the same on TV as off. I was a Habs fan so that is saying something. Lot of respect for anyone who can call things the way he sees it. Don still has his eye for the game.
McLean I have never liked after his smear of Alex Burrows over the Auger reffing affair. He very deliberately tried to drive Burrows out of the NHL. As was obvious Burrows was a bigger man than he.
Don Cherry loves Trump and a strong supporter of Doug and Bob Ford. Enough for me, he’s my guy.
