    Blaming the price of gas is utterly misleading. The fact is there is not enough sun here for several months each year to make grid-scale solar work. On November 10, 2017 a City of Medicine Hat representative wrote to a colleague: “… we have discovered that during the winter months there is less available energy from the sun because of the angle of the sun and how the Earth tilts making it less optimal for solar heating. Therefore the plant no longer operates in winter months.” Wow. It took $12 million of your tax dollars to discover the earth tilts and in winter solar is useless here in winter!

    Thermal solar performs poorly in California at Ivanpah and it uses natural gas to boost output. In 2018, output of the 15-MW Brooks Solar (PVs vs thermal) was 17% of design capacity!! (Output was 1% of the PV capacity in February 2019, during record cold!) And Alberta taxpayers gave Brooks Solar $15 million!

      They tell the Rube Mayor of Medicine Hat we will give you x dollars and you have to come up with so much as well.
      Provinces need to reassert control to protect taxpayers. Ottawa dreams up projects which they call infrastructure spending, always targeted to areas were they need to buy votes.
      Lets pretty up the main street in Regina here is 50M from the LIBERAL or the CONS now you owe us your support and they start twisting arms for votes. Just another version of Corporate Welfare.

  3. Back in the day, on the 50th anniversary of D-day, asked my mother and aunt where the men of the family were at that time. My father we knew; he was an instructor (definitely NOT what he’d signed up for) in the RCAF and still in Canada. My uncles and my aunt’s husband were all in England. So three uncles unaccounted for: a mechanic, a regular (but older) army type, and a padre. We never did sort it out (all were deceased by that time), but figured they weren’t part of the invasion but followed the troops to Europe in the next few days. Fortunately, they all made it home.
    Looked at my husband’s family. One side was all in Canada working at a strategic war facility. On the other side, the two brothers went off to war. One was wounded at Ortona and invalided out; the other was in the merchant marine, serving in the engine room of ships taking vital supplies to England.
    This June 6th, I will remember them all with gratitude.

    1. Alberta needs to start getting out of all Federal programs and reducing Ottawa’s presence every where in Alberta were Ottawa has stepped into Provincial Jurisdiction.
      Kick them off the porch then out of the yard. Get the RCMP out of Alberta, Transition Albertans from CPP to APP, Alberta needs to opt out of Equalization look at using the Not Withstanding.
      Use the shotgun approach and building all the infrastructure necessary for a new nation. If Ottawa imposes a new Carbon Tax shut down rail and pipelines and the TransCanada highway to transportation of goods east and west. Call it safety inspections.

    How many convictions ? How many sentences clearly ineffective ?

    Few people are aware that the Liberals in the 1970s, removed public safety from the top priority in sentencing guidelines for the judiciary, replacing it with rehabilitation for all.

    No political leader has dared to re-instate it, arguing that psychopathy can be diagnosed prior to 20-25 years of criminal behaviour. To give the voter the right to consider that at elections, would be monster-phobic.
    Note- there is an endless stream of police officers who leave policing early, often with PTSD. This not because of the crimes they investigate, so much as of despair at the sentences given to the truly dangerous. They are willing to confront the dragon of chaos and evil, but can’t stomach, a system that resuscitates the dragon.

    The D.O. hearings were invented for times, after decades of obvious violent psychopathic crime. Ones so clear, that even the fog of Marxist utopianianism, of rehabilitation for all being the top priority, had failed. A rehabilitation fantasy, bereft of science, in denial of human nature, and the nature and quality of the crimes, has cost Canadians, the peace and security and liberty, that the wisdom of our ancestors provided us, as our inheritance.

  17. It seems that Statistics Canada likes Canola farmers more than the mining industry.

    The mining industry directly employs 426,000 and generates $44 billion in revenue a year. That is $104,000 per employed person.

    The Canola industry directly employs 104,000 and generates $9 billion a year or $86,000 per directly employed person.

    Yet Stats Can claims Canola is responsible for $26 billion of GDP while mining gets only $97 billion.

    The mining industry creates 18% more wealth per employee, is 5x bigger than Canola, yet Canola farming is said to provide a 3x lift in economic GDP versus a little over 2x for the mining industry.

    I have nothing against Canola farmers but why am I subsidizing their industry when they are not subsidizing my industry?

    Most people have never heard of a volcano in Germany. Well, the caldera of Laacher See was formed after the Laacher volcano that erupted between 12,900 and 11,200 years ago. Everything collapsed into the empty magma chamber below only two or three days after the eruption, forming what is now a lake. The estimated Volcanic Explosivity Index value was that of 6, which means that this eruption was 250 times larger than the eruption of Mount St. Helens back in 1980. Remains of this eruption can be found all over Europe and is often used for dating sediments. A number of unique minerals, like Hauyn, can be found in the region, and quarries to mine the stone as a building material.
    The Laacher is still considered very much an active volcano.
