  1. Before Pres Bush Jr vs Dan Rather there was this exchange between Pres Bush Sr. and the Acosta of the day…

    **Probably most people think of George H.W. Bush as the anti-Trump — genteel, reserved, and polite to a fault. And sometimes he was, but he also wasn’t afraid to knife a journalist here or there when he felt it was deserved, or even just because it might distract from a potentially harmful story.
    Below is the video from when Bush famously stuck it to Dan Rather on the CBS news broadcast in the middle of a live interview in 1988. Bush was angry because Rather had led into this interview with a six-minute news piece that insinuated
    Bush was much more involved in Iran-Contra than House and Senate investigations (controlled by Democrats, for what that’s worth) had already concluded after extensive testimony and investigation.
    Bush came into the interview with an overtly combative mien, accusing Rather of misleading his audience. Rather reciprocated, repeatedly interrupting Bush’s answers. Then, at about the six-and-a-half minute mark in the video below, the Bush dropped the bomb:
    “It’s not fair to judge my whole career by a re-hash on Iran,” Bush said at one point. “How would you like it if I judge your career by those seven minutes when you walked off the set in New York? Would you like that?”
    Rather, who up to that point had done most of the talking, was flustered by this. Bush was referring to a 1987 incident in which Rather had caused CBS to broadcast several minutes of blank airtime. Angry that his news program was being truncated because of a women’s tennis tournament, Rather got on the phone to argue with the network management and was absent from his post for several minutes when it was time to go live.
    The following night, Rather offered an editor’s note on the interview, denying that he or CBS News had deceived Bush about what would be asked.
    Rather continued in journalism for another 17 years until he was finally drummed out. His final undoing was a too-good-to-check hit piece that his news team put together on Bush’s son during the 2004 election. In both cases, Rather’s involvement helped a Bush.

      What is funny about this article (other than the left eating its own) is the main photo is that of a woman holding a sign (silence = death) and the headline “LGBT icon mobbed for expressing opinion”. You would think a woman was attacked during an LGBT demonstration. But no, the “mobbing” was a Twitter “attack” against a drag queen for his public questioning of identity politics.

      To summarize:

    We have “gay”, “lesbian”, “bisexual”, “transgender” etc, etc. It boggles the mind to even imagine Nature screwed up so badly creating such confusion among the human race. What’s normal when anything goes? The “experts” in the field are telling us a child of three shows his or her sexual leanings.

    The one thing left is it takes male and female products to procreate and that is now bastardized beyond repair.

    1. I do not object to gay and lesbian couples. The typical gay couple are men in their late 40s, early 50s, usually with a scarf fashionably wrapped around their necks. The lesbians are the 20 something hotties holding hands as they stroll leisurely to buy groceries for their girls night in. I have no problem with that. Let them get married even.

      But this issue about letting 3 years olds think they are neither boy nor girl. Leading on young children who would otherwise identify with one of the two sexes. Helping confused young people explore their sexuality long before they have matured intellectually. That feels like grooming and should not be tolerated.

      1. I have no problem, do not care, don’t need to know their sexuality, they have every right we all have under the law.
        It’s the over the top exploitation we have going on, more like recruitment . There’s a whole lot of confusion among young people with more and more concentration on it in our schools. It is grooming at that early stage, that should be considered criminal interference.

            I saw it for the first time nearly 40 years ago in Calgary. Even then, the theatre was packed. One reason I found it so funny is that I knew people like that while I was an undergrad and, no, I wasn’t one of them.

            I have to add that one to my personal collection.

  19. After it was written, I remember seeing Frank Loesser and his wife talk about it on someone’s show. They performed it as a duet at Los Angeles parties. It was considered risque and fun back then.
    Usually in the 40s, no young lady went into a man’s apartment alone. It was a big no-no. Only someone extremely naive would trust a man if the door was closed, so the young lady had already crossed a barrier by being alone with him.

  21. @abtrapper. That Charles/Carter duet is one of my faves. Betty Carter never received the acclaim she was worth imo. She was also a great musical educator of young people. The instrumentation is dated, as it is for many classics. You have to listen to it with an ear towards the era in which it is performed. You can’t just toss out Cole Porter, Gershwin. or much of jazz and blues due to a moral code. Being human involves love and lust.

      Betty Carter was underated. When I hear her sing this tune I dont get the impression that she was afraid that Brother Ray was going to molest her.

Early in 2019 Notley will announce that they have signed 10 year deals with the teacher’s, nurse’s, and public service unions give them big raises each year and a promise of no economic layoffs for the duration of the 10 year labour contract. This is how the NDP will try to get re-elected in early 2019.
        If this doesn’t buy enough votes to get the NDP elected. The new Alberta government will be faced with massive structural deficits. The NDP will be hoping to get re-elected in 2023
