Your Moral And Intellectual Superiors

Unifor Praises Trudeau’s $600 Million Media Bailout;

They’ve pledged to oppose the Conservatives, represent many thousands of media workers, and asked Trudeau to bail out the media. Trudeau is doing exactly what they wanted, and Unifor is doing exactly what he wants.

The Rebel Media doesn’t want their money, thanks. Just like I won’t accept a Senate appointment, no matter how hard they beg.

Breitbart has more details.

  1. I guess the prospect of the CBC dole was enough bait (Coyne, Wells, etc.).

Free press can still exist, it just means that we won’t know which press is free and which is beholden.

    1. Anyone who accepts state money to report the news and/or comment on it is a state-financed journalist and the information they present should be considered in that light.

      1. Yes, but how will you know? Tax returns are protected information, not available through freedom of information requests. A particular journalist may be ignorant that their outlet is state financed but their editor may be in the know.

        1. I suppose we’ll have to assume they are all state-financed unless they tell us they’re not.

I consider news to be “fake news” by default and already have low expectations of journalists anyway.

  2. Imagine how the lefties would be howling if for some (strange) reason Harper had of done this.

    “CO-OPTING THE FREE MEDIA!!!!!!”

    “DESTROYING THE CORNERSTONE OF DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!”

    “FASCIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

  3. Trudau isn’t co-opting anything. The media has supported the Liebels and if they could the Dippers for many decades.
$1.25 billion to the CBC isn’t chicken feed the last time I was in the barn. CTV and Global aren’t any dif. The only dif is that they are being up front about it. The public seems to be OK with it. I don’t see them out in the streets asking why? Why are you giving money to these failed businesses and shorting health care? It is a joke just like this country is a joke.

  4. This is the worst possible outcome to happen to freedom of press.
Watch for the praise heaped on the incompetent drama queen airhead that is playing a role of prime minister of Canada.

The media cartel in this country has reached the critical mass to extort money from the taxpayer.
If it is the case that they are not making money, it is entirely without reservation their own self inflicted fault.

They print lies, half truth, omit the things that they don’t agree with and expect the readers to believe the bull as though those that are interested in the affairs of man had no other choice to check it.
No apology for the “affairs of man” it’s generic, if you don’t like it, go pound sand, as the saying goes.

  5. They should now all be closed down because now they are all redundant!

    They have been Ceeeee-Beeeee-Ceeeeed!

  6. “Why are you giving money to these failed businesses and shorting health care?”

I have always maintained that the CBC should be cut off completely and the billion plus dollars per annum that is currently being squandered should be directed in its entirety to health care. New equipment, new buildings, more health care professionals. Whatever. Even the stupidest of lefties couldn’t argue against this redirection of funds. The Friends of the CBC could cease their perpetual sniveling and step up to the plate with their own cash to maintain their beloved CBC. Yeah, like that would ever happen. However chasing the absolutely useless CBC away from the trough takes political courage which is in rather short supply these days.

  7. You now see the reason that the Shit Head’s “conservative” government failed. Here you have a jerk who dose not understand Liar & Thief and because of harper and what ever his replacement is have zero chance of ousting him. I’m tired of voting none of the above. Bring on western seperation.

    1. Yeah, yeah.. we’ve heard that for decades but it only USED to make sense.
Now… Alberta and BC Dipper governments as stupid as any on earth, Manitoba pickled in debt….

Saskatchewan maybe.. the rest of you are as fucked as us in Ontariowe…

    2. And you seriously believe that the west will vote in better parties to run them after they separate? You live in a dream world.

      1. Oh you can bet . your boots that the Commies now in Edmonchuck are toast….gone in 5 months Gellen. Annihilated.

UCP will win majority if not a Super Majority – then we will see how well JustDim can negociat with him….good luck. It will be Shove yer Carbon tax up your rectum, clear the way for Northern Gateway & Kinder Morgan and dump the total Assinine CRAP in Bill C69 and 48. No you say..??

OK – Time for a CLEAR QUESTION
Referendum on Separation…..We have COMPLETELY had enough of these MoFo’ing TRUDEAUS that have continually TRAMPLED on our province and our Goddamned LIVLIHOODS.!! 100,000 Calgarians OUT of WORk directly attributable to THEM P’s OS.. I am one of them and not at all a happy camper…Bet on it.

      2. Gellen, that is why the winners in revolutions usually take the politicians out and execute them, start off with a clean slate, so to speak. Worked in China and Vietnam.

        1. @ Don Morris:
You forgot to mention the Russian commies and their murder of the whole royal family, men, women and children.

  8. Other than a handful of conservative journalists and the Rebel, the media is, and has been for some time an unabashed integral part of the institutional left masquerading as journalists. The fact that they will now become rent seeking whores as well doesn’t seem to lower my opinion of them. It will make them dependent on the state in the future, and make them completely redundant when a future government decides to rationalize all the nominally private sector CBC clones with the actual CBC, something the market is already doing anyway. That organized crime masquerading as unions is on side with the Spawn greasing friendly press is also a logical and unsurprising move.

The worst part of all of this is that assuming Scheer lucks out and becomes PM, it’s quite likely that he will go along with it judging by the way he attempted to keep his drones from coming in contact with the Rebel people during their convention.

  9. not only that, as long as there is a national debt, then this is ‘money’ WE DONT EVEN HAVE.
and furthermore, any conditions attached? *any* chance a big chunk will go to ‘bonuses’ for the ‘highly skilled dynamic policies’ at the top? hmmm?
    that ever happened before?

and thirdly, unless there’s a federal election next week, this too will all be forgotten . . . . . .

  10. Well they’ve been known as ”Presstitutes” for awhile anyways, at least now we see the money changing hands.

  11. Hope they are dumb enough to publish the list. If not, the funds have to be accounted for and access to information should provide that.
Otherwise just ask any journalist if they got the money, no how about your editor? ah too bad can’t trust you anymore.

  12. It’s really quite brilliant. He knows the Conservatives will pledge to end this slush fund which the media will all rail against.

The media was going to side with the Liberals in the election either way but this will crank it up to 11.

  13. This corruption is now the CBCization of all Liberal Media in Canada.

    Suddenly, the CPC is outraged.

This just might be the talking point that Max Bernier needed to get some real traction among Canadians.

  14. In the near future here is what the Globe and Mail will write about Turdeau’s visit to Calgary yesterday when he was met with a pro-pipeline protest.
“Today our Illustrious Dear Leader visited Calgary where he was given an enthusiastic reception. Speaking to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce he received numerous standing ovations. Outside the hotel a cheerful crowd showed their support for our Illustrious Dear Leader”

For SDA readers in actuality there was very little polite applause to his speech and the protest was definitely anti Turdeau. The police had to scramble to assemble enough officers to monitor the crowd. Gerald Butts the prime minister’s principle aide was quite concerned with the size of the crowd.

Even Pravda reporters would get sick with the new Canadian Liberal media

  15. Well. Now you know where the carbon tax is going.

You already figured it wouldn’t go to anybody who both needed and deserved the money.

When you have to start choosing between paying the gas bill and being able to buy food fit to give a dog (never mind a human), thank a journalist.

  16. “Just like I won’t accept a Senate appointment, no matter how hard they beg. ”

Funny you should bring that up. When Harper was PM, and about to appoint several Senators, I sent your name and the site address of SDA to his office, with a strong recommendation that you be appointed, as one of the hardest working conservative voices on the internet. I was disappointed , and certainly not for the last time by Harper, when his office “thanked me for my input”, then appointed a group of insiders such as Duffy,Wallin and Brazeau.

That is when it became crystal clear to me that Stephen Harper in this aspect of the PM’s job, was no different than anyone who held the Office before him. In a separate E-mail, I recommended my Brother, RCAF veteran, top quality citizen, long time campaign worker for the Conservative Party, well respected in his profession and in his community.
Again, I was thanked for my input, then gnashed my teeth as Harper appointed several “duds” some of whom cost him big time in the next election. Harper wasn’t interested in real Canadians representing us in the Senate, just insiders and pc appointees to the exclusive club that is Ottawa politics.

We Canadians need to be represented in Ottawa by people from outside the political realm, real people who truly understand the plight of ordinary folks, not stars and insiders. Both Kate and my Brother would have served us well in the Senate, but Harper stayed true to the Ottawa club.

    1. Glad your delusion is gone. The only way this country fixes its democracy is through revolution. I am far too comfortable to give a fuck either way. Maybe it will happen, but I doubt it.

    2. I have to agree with your post. SPOT on Don…!!

      NO Lawyers
      No Political Scientists
      No SJW’s
      No Feminists
      NO ISLAMICS
      No Economists

      Trades persons OK
      Home makers OK
      Business folks…Maybe

That would be my Criteria. Elaborate if you wish…..on who would be ok or not

      1. Seeing how you’ve gone into fantasy land, I’ll toss out that it wouldn’t mater what the qualifications are as the ideal legislator should either be elected to one term only or forget elections and parties and draft citizens at random for their one term similar to Jury duty. While we’re at it, have a Constitution banning deficits, enshrining property rights and free speech. To dream!

      2. Non Unionized Farmers, Miners, Fisherman, OK. Every commie take over in history involves eliminating any power, wealth or influence from the OK list. If Trudeau thinks he can destroy an entire industry in Canada ie. Oil and Gas, what’s stopping him from destroying other businesses and industries. The entire Canadian mining industry is at risk as well as farmers, most of whom are large enough now days to be family owned corporate farms. The Carbon tax is for forcing all these people into bankruptcy and tapping out. Then Commie Libs, Greens and NDP swoop in and take it all to fund their Enviro Cult Religion.

    3. are you referring to former pm stephen harper the control freak bully?
      https://canadiandimension.com/articles/view/harper-serial-abuser-of-power-the-evidence-compiled
      yup !!!!
      hows this for an example?
      https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2010/05/25/tories_block_staff_from_testifying_at_parliamentary_committees.html
what form of ‘transparency is THAT? hmmmm?
I dont give a rat’s derriere if this is ‘liberal media’ at work, YES or NO, did harper do this? YES.

this stuff people, THIS stuff is why Cdns had to hold their noses and put the dauphin in orifice to get rid of the demagogue. in 2019 we then do the same thing to the dauphin.

thats how Cdn politics works, er ‘works’

  17. Well, I for one, am going to start stocking up on toilet paper now. As seen in Venezuela, when that shit runs out, mass migrations start to happen. I am thinking probably around Easter here in Alberta. Saskatchewan might make it to Canada Day 2019.

  18. From the Unifor web-site…

“Unifor was officially formed on August 31, 2013, at a Founding Convention in Toronto, Ontario. It marked the coming together of the Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) – two of Canada’s largest and most influential labour unions.”

    315,000 members.

  19. Another aspect of this, is to complain, bitterly and loudly, at the next shareholder’s meeting for BCE, ROGERS, SJB/SHAW/CORUS, POSTMEDIA, etc, about this and the lack of any independence of the media, by accepting funds/hush money for their propaganda efforts.

This should be widely condemned throughout this country, this measure effectively turns every newspaper, radio and TV chain and outlet into a Pravda and Tass propaganda outlet of the far left Liberal Laurentian cabal.

This is disgusting beyond all measure, as we see this country turn into Lower Slobovia, a third world corrupt kleptocracy.

What an effective way to silence all opposition, bribe all media to spewing Lefty Liberal boilerplate, all the time. It was bad enough with the Corpse and LCTV, but this is a nationwide putsch of freedom.

  20. Danielle Smith interviewed MP Rempel about this much to the chagrin of those at Global News of which Danielle is now working under. (All Corus radio stations are now under the Global News umbrella for those unaware) She even admitted after the interview was over and was taking calls that this was a tricky subject to discuss but with so many questions unanswered let alone the negative perception this paints it needs much more attention. Well done Danielle!
Any other’s in conservative talk radio across Canada take this subject on?

  21. Does everyone remember the fate of the Pravda in the Soviet Union? During the reign of communism, it ultimately replaced toilet paper as there was no toilet paper available for the common man. History may repeat itself here.

  22. Haha. Its an Orewellian joke. You can’t pay a free press. Canada’s democracy isn’t failing, its being killed by the LPoC in real time before our eyes. Unifor is an enemy of democracy and every member of it is an enemy of liberty, free speech and association.

    1. Union members don’t realize that the union works for the members fighting for job security, safety, pay and benefits. The union is paid by the members to do these things. The members are under no obligation to vote for who the union says they should, what charities they should support, or what their family or moral values are to be.

  23. The Trudeau gov’t needs to be strictly and quickly questioned on what criteria is used in determining “trusted” news sources.

I just sent money to Rebel Media (and I am a yearly subscriber). I quibble at their word “donation” because I see it as a gift, but that’s just semantics.

I don’t agree with everything Rebel says and does, although I think Ezra has come a long way. I would like to suggest the oil patch companies in Alberta to use just half of their annual Christmas Party budget to fund the Rebel. Instead of the few remaining employees having hangovers the next day, the oilpatch would surely get some long term “bang for their bucks”. I always thought the patch should buy copies of Ezra’s book “Ethical Oil” and send it to all politicians in Canada and some in USA, every time their industry got bashed.

  24. A free and independent press does not take public money.

Is censoring all social media on par with China not far behind?

William Tecumseh Sherman was a man before his time.

  25. This post-national country now looks a lot like the former USSR or modern day Cuba.

Is there a way to correct this absurdity?

  26. A more blatant bribe I have never seen. In Canada we do not have FAKE news, we have BRIBED news. A good excuse to heckle the media.

  27. “We’ve made some investments to ensure that we continue that we have an important free press …
It’s not free; it cost C$595 million of our money. At least, now, Trudeau will have the best press that money can buy; but it isn’t free!

    1. It’s free as far as he’s concerned. His accountants probably made sure that he doesn’t have to pay taxes in this country.

After all, only little people pay taxes, right?

  28. Tax me more, my discretionary spending goes down.
Bailout companies because my buying power goes down and they lose business.
Tax me more to cover the bailouts, my discretionary spending goes down.
    Repeat.

We are all circling inside the economic toilet bowl.

    1. So true. And as Jamie and JDN say above, now we know for sure what they are and what the price is.

  29. Reading a hundred comments from so called conservatives, and none of them say “government should spend less”.

Cut out the CBC cash, and don’t spend it on anything else. Cut things, instead of spending. How does that sound? Cut staff. Cut pensions. Cut services.

    The less government the better

Unless you enjoy random RCMP gun grabs and the like? The bigger the leviathan is, the more it has to eat.

  30. On second thought this is brilliant.
Now the federal government can just put up their carefully vetted announcement and ignore the media.
And the next government can cancel this idiotic bribery scheme and announce an immediate $600 million savings to taxpayers.
While ignoring their former employees as too hopelessly biased to perform their stated jobs.
    Everybody wins.
Venezuela North, we are so happening.
Next prison sentences for mocking dear leader.

  31. Here is something union members should learn, and our unions should be told.
As the money flows from me to the union, the union works for me.
The union is obligated to work for my job security, safety, pay and benefits, I pay them to do that.
Since the union works for me, I am under no obligation to vote for who they say to, I can donate to whatever charities I want to, and they cannot tell me what my moral and family values are.
The union works for you, they do your bidding, you do not have to do their bidding.
