Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

57% of voting Calgarians have at least a modicum of fiscal sanity. I am surprised, but relieved. Millions have been wasted already in time and resources, millions that could have remained in the pockets of the tax payers. But no, Fat-face needed his ego trip. What a tawdry exhibition this strip-tease has been for two years. They have no shame.
Kinda surprised to be honest. The yes side sure had the game rigged with being the only side to run a campaign, fawning media, graft and city elites and the shakiest voting system I’ve seen in a long time.
Agreed on the shaky voting system. Absolutely NO public (as in newspapers) listing of polling stations. Found ours through a posting here, but youngest daughter didn’t know where her’s was and it was very difficult to find on-line. When she did go to vote, found there were two polling stations for her community, and considerable confusion as to who got to vote where (she was in the right place). Despite that, all ages were voting.
HELL YES (as in no).
What was turnout?
Calgary votes no.
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/live-polling-stations-busy-into-the-evening-as-calgarians-vote-on-olympic-bid/amp
Surely there must be some ‘yes’ votes in ballot boxes in some car trunks and airport lockers.
Well if they can’t find those, they can just vote again, and again, and again until the desired result is achieved, you know, like the left demands with Brexit.
Much like BC does with electoral reform.

Good to see there are still some sane people left in Alberta. I shudder to think what would have happened if Spendmonton would have had any say in this.
As much as I loathe the Notley NDP government, they did one thing right: they said provincial $$ only comes after a plebiscite demonstrates support, AND that the result would be binding. That second part is important–some of the people involved only believe in democracy when they get the answer they want. They did not get it tonight.
Calgary said NO to TNN (Turdeau, Notley, Nenshi) and their smug “I know what’s best for you” virtue signalling politics, with tax increases and deficit increases that never end. We also said NO to a corrupt IOC and their drug filled games.
So mean. How will Nanshe show the world he’s the bestest mayor ever?
Nold – he could just remember his comment when he first ran for mayor which was to the effect of “I’m from the east end and I know the value of a dollar”. And then abide by it. Unfortunately, it seems the phrase should have been “…I know how to spend the dollars in your pocket”.
Nold – Nenshi does not have to prove he is the world’s best mayor. CBC News, CTV News and the Globe and Mail have decreed that he is the best.
Another stupid expensive bridge/art project is in the offing. “One for the road”
a friend emailed all her friends a couple of days ago asking opinions on the Olympics vote, this was my reply…
“Most of our government is openly modifying our behaviour through ever-increasing carbon taxes. The federal government has a policy of de-industrializing Canada. By 2026 there’s going to be a lot more poor people and probably a lot less cars on the road.
The security bill for the Olympics will be in the hundreds of millions, it’ll be a SWAT team circus, with check points and long lineups everywhere.
Remember EXPO86? What happened to the World Fairs they used to have every four years? They’re shut down, expensive boondoggles. The concept is obsolete, expensive corrupt boondoggles. For the Olympics hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars will be wasted, lost, stolen. The well-connected and their friends and families will have all kinds of high-paying jobs for years preparing for the Olympics.
Alberta’s a rich province. We only need about fifty billion dollars to get up to flat broke… let’s see here… fifty billion provincial debt interest paying off the top of tax revenue let’s call it twelve billion a year in interest payments, a billion dollars a month off the top of all government revenue for interest payments. (I digress when I ask who is getting that revenue from Alberta taxpayers, a billion dollars a month? Of course it’s the investors who hold Alberta debt instruments, investors who park their enormous wealth into government instruments…) Do not believe the economics of the yes side, they have no clue of the economics.
I’m voting no because it’s a terrible and corrupt waste of money at a time when the future does not look all that good in this city.
I’m not being political, I’m being historical. Few people have read as much political history as me. Economics has a huge human nature/behavioral component which severely constricts forecasting, reading the future is almost impossible. But all indications, to me, are of a long period of global decline ahead. There is also significant risk of an economic crash, be it sudden or slow. One certain prediction is a LOT more poor people in the world. And this is after a very long period of global growth and amazing statistics on improved standards of living and billions of people lifted out of poverty. So in my opinion, if current trends continue, there will be a decline in living standards, the four horsemen is an allegory… pestilence, famine, war, and death.
2026 is a long way off and it doesn’t look good. The future can change, there’s infinite possible futures, my personal economic vision of the future is very negative.”
This Olympic story has been in the news for months in Calgary dominating the talk shows and other local media. The turnout for the vote was as high as any vote in the citys history and yet the local TV stations decide to NOT cover the vote results live. What a bizarre decision from those that’ll tell you they have their finger on the pulse of the people.
Re: the “no” vote on Winter Oylmpics:
Yay!
Apparently the plebiscite is non-binding though and the Calgary City Councillors may still vote to go ahead with the Olympics.
Now isn’t that just dandy? /s
My understanding is that the money from the Provincial Government is conditional on the plebiscite generating a “yes” from the public. I suppose there might be someone on Calgary city council crazy enough to vote for the city to pick up that $700 million tab but I doubt it.
(You never know.) I hope they stick to the plebiscite. We are the real taxpayers, the private sector. If not they ought to be voted out. Fancy empty sport arenas are not needed, when the downtown office vacancy rate is 25% and one has to go to the good old USA to get meaningful employment in the private sector.
Yes, plebiscites are non-binding
Now the media can go back to their standard stories that Nazis are running rampant in the United Conservative Party. And don’t forget, Nazis are running rampant in Canada. Only Justin and the CBC can save us.
“And don’t forget, Nazis are running rampant in Canada.”
Indeed. Why just this morning some men in brown shirts drove past my house in a large van.
Oh, wait. It was a UPS truck.
I guess you are lucky it wasn’t a mystery man in a white van. I wonder what ever happened to him. Maybe Justin sent him home on holiday to a muslim healing circle in his shithole of origin.
The yes side was so smugly arrogant they pulled out all the stops. What a waste of money from our Carbon Taxers.

I saw comments from BidCo prez Mary Moran that after finding out their side lost by 40,000 votes following months of hard “Yes” side campaigning, evasive fact hiding, questionable estimating and hard question avoiding (i.e. overruns) said that “We knew we did it well in ’88, we knew that Vancouver did it great in 2010 and we knew that we could do it better in 2026. But we shouldn’t give up,”
“We’ve learned so much about our community. We’ve learned so much about each other. And we need to embrace the energy through that dialogue and discussion we had and we need to make Calgary a better place again.” Wow. So according to her Calgary is not a better place unless she wins and puts us all into massive debt. She’s got a huge chip that won’t budge. If the “No” side had access to the same amount of resources and media support this vote would have looked like the 70-30 split from the early polls. We can’t let this snake oil sales fraud continue. They’re like frick’n zombies except they keep coming for everyone’s wallets and could care less about having any brains.
The Vancouver Olympics was soooo great from the black clad antifa thugs to the melted medals that were clearly designed by some drug addled moron to the half arsed bobsled track to the Olympic vehicle only lanes on the trans Canada to the wasted billons on whatever.
Vancouver legacy. Drug addled East side? Yep. Retarded leftist cult in city government? Yep Haven for petty crime? Yep Unaffordable costs of living and taxes? Yep Expressways and proper driving in the city? Nope.

A number of years ago, I was on a flight from northern BC to Vancouver. My seatmate was a contractor working at the Olympic site and he had a few stories to tell.
By the sounds of it, there were more tradesmen working there than on most building construction projects. After the few days of frivolity were over, there was several months of work to dismantle everything.
And, because of its location and the political circumstances back then, the security was another matter. Apparently, the air security zone around the Vancouver area took in much of southern B. C. as well as the American Pacific Northwest. In addition, the U. S. Army was stationing thousands of extra troops just across the border in Washington in case of a security incident.
Similarly, I remember flying over the Olympic stadium in Montreal more than 30 years ago. The games, featuring some chap by the name of Bruce Jenner, were long over but the cockamamie tower for the fabric dome still wasn’t finished.
Can anyone tell me why these exhibitions of excess are still being held?
In Mtl the same deliveries went round and round…so I was told.
Held? Perhaps for the bangs, bongs, and binges.
Shoulders shrugging, ooo, là, là!
Just a guess.
‘Caravan’ migrants arrive at southern border of U.S.
“Nearly 400,000 illegal border-crossers have crossed into the U.S. this year, as of last month. In October, nearly 51,000 border-crossers were apprehended, Breitbart News reported.
As Breitbart News has chronicled, though the establishment media has repeatedly claimed that the caravan is seeking to enter the U.S. to seek asylum, the Central American migrants have continuously admitted they are not seeking asylum.
Instead, the migrants are looking for jobs, crime-free communities, and many are previously deported illegal aliens who are looking to go back to their former, illegal life in the U.S. None of these cases is eligible as asylum claims.”

now they are looking at a potential 5 million invaders.
Sweden!
“Biohax, a Swedish company that provides human chip implants, told the Daily Telegraph it was ‘in talks’ with a number of UK legal and financial firms to implant staff with the devices. Apparently, one client has ‘hundreds of thousands of employees’ and probably believes that injecting chips into their workers is easier than issuing them with a security pass. ‘These companies have sensitive documents they are dealing with,’ Jowan Österlund, the founder of Biohax, told the paper.”

The media reports this morning that Great Leader Justin is buying three used icebreakers for 30% more than expected. Only the Liberals could buy old junk for more than they are worth. The used icebreakers will fit in nicely with our used jet fighters, used submarines, and used surface warships. And the CBC political panel last night had climate expert Michael Coren and others on demanding that carbon taxes should be raised until it hurts. Old people heating their homes must suffer in the cold to protect the planet.
Will they sink like our submarines don’t?
Look at it this way: we got a good deal. Why buy a brand new icebreaker when there isn’t supposed to be any ice for it to break?

They need an inquiry to examine why this inquiry will never end.
“The (systemic) causes of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people are rooted in 500 years of colonization,” a spokesperson said in an email.
Violence against women? Sort of indigenous isn’t it? Oh perhaps that was limited to the Aztecs?
So they know the answer but they still need more money? It’s a make work project for lawyers.
This is the Canadian Mueller enquiry. Nothing there but lots of digging in search of guilt. Imagine, the Mueller enquiry has another 64 million people tod interrogate and persecute for voting Trump.
As I’ve said before, why doesn’t Mueller subpoena and indict Putin, after all we know he was behind Trump’s victory.

This article is about “deep fake” news.

The article makes it seem as though these plans are being cancelled when in fact they were only election promises by the Liberals and never implemented.
That story is a bit like the Calgary Olympic bid. Any duly elected government whether they be Fed, Prov, or municipal that attempts to live within its means is instantly labelled mean regressive neo-con troglodytes by the media for any effort to relieve the burdened taxpayer from government depredation.
And don’t forget how heartless and cold this proves Ford to be. Never mind that the Libs had been in power in Ontario for …..how long…… and they did not do it, either.

fuck paypal
I stopped using them when it came out that transactions are NOT limited to *their* balance. nay, they reach into one’s supporting bank acct also. kinda like a pickpocket failing & then trying the other pocket . . . .
You also have to be aware of endless phishing expeditions trying to get suckers to log into Paypal through their website. I get so much fake Paypal spam that I ignore everything from Paypal.
“The common sense of the common people” Preston Manning.
Calgarians punched the elite in the nose, doing what is allowed in a democracy – getting your say once every four years….
Politicians take note, populism is here, in Canada.
They would have had a much better chance if they had pitched an Olympics as hockey in Edmonton’s new arena, skiing in Whistler and the rest in YYC. The NHL would have bought in. How could they say no?
Alas the cowtowners couldn’t bring themselves to even contemplate the olympics without hockey. Oh well
If the ‘common people’ had any wisdom, this wouldn’t be an outlier, and turnout would have been way higher.
The average peon knows little and has almost nothing of value to say. His/her place is to plod along.
https://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/why-wont-wayne-gretzky-pick-up-his-order-of-canada/
Wayne Gretzky was awarded the Order of Canader in 2009 but hasn’t bothered to pick it up. Seems Phil Esposito and Bobby Clarke were also awarded the OoC in 1972, but haven’t bothered to collect their either.
The “expert” on the honors system is peeved, but perhaps the hockey players recognize how the award has been politicized and cheapened.especially with some Orders having been rescinded.
Where do they have to go to pick these up? Why don’t they send them? Maybe they are protesting Don Cherry not being awarded one.
And maybe they object to the fact that as members they share the honour with the best baby killer in Canadian history.
